You know what I mean. Woman gets an inn (left in a will/wins/buys). Goes to a quaint town. Meets attractive but annoying man blah blah.
Very cheesy but I like them! Is it too early to start watching them? I want to see them all! Anyone with me?

They've started!

Farmageddon · 05/11/2022 13:02

OMG Love these! And have a good friend who understands, so we can share the Christmas cheese, everyone else thinks we're bonkers.

Anyway, Netflix have some good ones.
A Christmas Prince and
Once Upon A Holiday are good.
(Loads of the Christmas ones are also royal themed, weirdly.)

Other ones from Hallmark that aren't Christmas themed, but still lovely and cheesy - Unleashing Mr. Darcy, and A Dash of Love.

Also, there's a Youtube channel called SunWorld Pictures that do loads of these types of crappy but compulsive movies - they do a good version of Pride and Prejudice set in modern day (about 20 years ago). Just be aware many of the movies are set in Utah and there seems to be a sort of mormon or religious undertone to them.

SoSobored · 05/11/2022 13:06

No way!! We'll have this thread (and I imagine 10,000 more) and watch it in real time and chat about it! Never been so excited 😆 #dorks

AgapanthusandAcers · 05/11/2022 13:09

I love them and I watch far too many, far too often. I can't admit that in real life...

I love them! I’m totally addicted. My favourite storylines always follow the same pattern. Successful, childless, city woman, somehow ends up a small, backwards mid-west town. Meets nice (but dim) widower with small annoying daughter ( the more whiny the better). They fall for each other and she gives up her career, friends (identity 🙄) and lives happily ever after. 😂.

…examples of these are as follows. ( I have them recorded from last year 😀).
A road to Christmas
A Christmas to remember
Operation Christmas
Enjoy 😄

They've started!

Watching now!
American Molly house swaps with British Patrick. He’s trying to write a book. She works in publishing.
I just cannot figure out what might happen next..

Rummikub · 05/11/2022 13:11

I want a red coat and go buy the perfect Christmas tree

Blue2021 · 05/11/2022 13:14

I’m putting the (mountain) of washing away right now watching cheateu Christmas on prime- utter cheese! But making this job bearable lol 😂 start now, get the hallmark add on in prime for loads more lol 😂

My guilty pleasure. Man or woman from big city, goes home to small hometown to help parents with coffee shop/pumpkin farm/ perfume business/inn, reconnects with highschool sweetheart (though they hate each other at first). Has crisis, goes back to big city to rich partner, then at the end of the film goes back to small town. In essence, they are all Sweet Home Alabama. I’ve watched them all. My husband says “have they gone back to city yet” to which I reply “it’s too early yet, give em half an hour”

inappropriateraspberry · 05/11/2022 13:17

But where's the British winter rain?

I’m currently watching Christmas in London on Channel 5. I know exactly how it’s going to end and have so many jobs to do today but can’t test myself away!!

Rummikub · 05/11/2022 13:20

But how are molly and Patrick going to bake the Christmas cookies together??

atiaofthejulii · 05/11/2022 13:24

Oh I’ve found my Christmas people! Love these, my youngest and I always watch as many as possible.
A California Christmas is good, good chemistry as they are actually married irl.
Christmas with a View is one of our favourites, so appalling it’s hilarious.

We liked Love Hard last year, and looking forward to the Lindsay Lohan one.

Not a film but a tv series, and with plenty of sex - Home for Christmas, it’s Norwegian, two series/12 episodes and on Netflix. I’m watching it again this year.

TulipTuesday · 05/11/2022 13:30

I bloody love these films!

I’ve always said if I win the lottery I’m taking us all to a huge house in a small Vermont town, decorated perfectly like in these films and join in with any Cookie baking/tree decorating competitions and lights switch on in the town square whilst wearing perfectly coordinated red and green outfits 😆

essex42 · 05/11/2022 13:44

Absolutely love them but self inflicted rule is that I can't watch them till December. I have a tick list for the genre:- "carolling" in Victorian costumes, selecting the Christmas tree from central town location and dragging it home, big light switching on ceremony, making Christmas Cookies, gingerbread house competition etc etc. The best ones have some element of magic - like snowman or elf coming alive or the real Santa Claus being employed as Santa Claus.

Brilliant!!!!

MenaiMna · 05/11/2022 13:51

I think I've watched them all. (Housebound & medication be-fuddled they are perfect to snooze to). Netflix have cottoned on and are importing German and Nordic cheese miniseries, iTV player have got a load and as pp say channel 5 fill the afternoon with cotton candy films.

SapatSea · 06/11/2022 10:59

atia i was coming on to also recommend Home For Christmas

BeingHeldAtHunPoint · 06/11/2022 11:03

inappropriateraspberry · 05/11/2022 12:37

Channel 5 also have a few on at the weekends, but they're older ones I've seen several times already!

Same.
I’m still rewatching though.

I’ve seen a load of the Hallmark ones too, I get really excited if I sit down to watch and it’s one I haven’t seen yet.
I Love a cheesy Christmas movie.

HowVeryBizarre · 06/11/2022 11:03

DD and I love these, definitely a guilty pleasure.

Deathraystare · 06/11/2022 14:36

My guilty pleasure too! Normally I would not touch this stuff with a barge pole! But as it is Christmassy I put up with it. My favourite (they get repeated) is called Christmas Eve where several groups of people and a lone man get trapped in lifts. That was great! Oh and one where a working mum (or Mom as it is American!) is drowning under the weight of her job/kids etc and wishes she could change place with someone she knows who is very glamarous etc etc. She does. Her sheer pleasure of a comfy bed/lovely clothes and shoes etc but it doesn't last long before she wants the old life back!

Frezia · 06/11/2022 14:41

I love those films. The Mrs Miracle series is my favourite. Especially the second film (in NY). Love it!
Some are too cheesy though. Like the one yesterday, Christmas in the Highlands. Such an annoying lead actress and a ridiculous story even for these films.

CoffeeInTheClouds · 06/11/2022 14:48

We have just found a channel called Great! Christmas moives on freeview. Wall to wall Christmas cheese. I'm afraid I can't recommend any particuar film, because they are all pretth much the same story, with the same characters, and more often than not the same actors 😂

But they make me feel good wrapped up in a blanket when the house is freezing!

Angelofthenortheast · 06/11/2022 14:55

Yes! The best one ever is A Christmas Movie Christmas. It's a Hallmark I think, and it's about a cynical woman who hates Hallmark Christmas films. She wakes up in a lucid dream with her hair blow dried, makeup done and has to 'save the town festival'.

It's hilarious, I hope it comes on again!
