Love love love this series

s8 - e1

The return of the programme where families from different socioeconomic rungs swap residences, spending plans, and daily routines for a week.

A life-changing experience for both parties occurs when millionaire property developer and lawyer Roy Ledgister swaps homes with a single mother. Becky Biggington.

Becky lives just 40 minutes away in a two-bed Sussex council house with her two young sons while Roy has a sizable Kent estate with a tennis court, swimming pool, and gym.

Anyone watching tonight? I’ve not taken to the wealthy guy with his comment early doors about people choosing to stay poor.

This. As soon as I heard that comment I just could not continue watching the programme. Such an ill thought, naive comment.

Asking fir food that was to be chucked is a good idea

tho if no camera would the owner have said no

and why a corner shop ad usual which things are costly

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/08/2022 10:52

Oh the poor kids were there

or least for the petting session and a meal

just seemed to be about billy and her mum

I think Billie just wants an easy life and people to help /provide it

hope her mum starts saying no to her

sorry does that sound mean

and think mark got a hard ride on here

OP posts:
thefamilyupstairs · 22/08/2022 12:41

That man's healing crystals must have done something to his brain.... Zero sense of awareness. Billie will never have enough, she's the type to spend everything she has and more and then cry that she has nothing. Even her mum says she wants a millionaire lifestyle. She must be working 10 hours per week maximum.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/08/2022 12:45

Exactly. 10hrs st prob min wage if earning £100 a week

guessing 2 a day

why doesn’t she work least double that or 3 times so 4/6 hrs a day and kids in after school club fir an hour or two which will be paid by uc

I always think this about the corner shops, they always go there...the production team must make them use the closest shop or something because they are three times the price of a supermarket.

Every new series just gets worse. I've only watched the first episode, but:

No scenes of the rich blokes shopping and then failing to cook?

Hardly any shopping? What did Becky spend all that week's money on?

Why was it December when Roy visited Becky's mum, but March when they visited the food bank?

Why did the rich blokes buy Becky garden furniture with a huge cushion, where will she store that for eleven months of the year?

What did the consultancy position entail?

Trip to Africa - WTF?????? I'm sure Becky would prefer the money!

purpleme12 · 22/08/2022 23:25

Oh my god this house is massive!

Limer · 23/08/2022 08:08

Episode 2: Billie & Mark

Agree with PP that Mark blaming the poor for staying poor wasn’t a good start!
All that crystals and woo stuff – it was like a cult. No way would they have been able to blag the free stuff, spend time fully supervised in the college or sell the items at auction without the camera crew!

I was waiting in vain to see them cooking with the past-their-best-veg and the huge bag of lentils. Now that would have been worth watching!

Billie only working 10 hours a week – well, I wonder why she hasn’t got enough money? My eyes rolled so far back in my head when she was filled with the spirit of a jaguar! I’d love to know what happened next. All she seemed to have learned during her week of wealth was that if you think positive and want it enough, you’ll get it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/08/2022 09:25

Agree @Limer wouid love to know what winter green and lentil meals they made

I said it before. Working 10hrs or so is silly when could earn double or triple that £100

Tho also guessing if she did earn more she would lose some benifits

yes she gave up /reduced hours as think grandad was poorly but assume she didn’t look after him and more her mental health /depression

but sorry again If sounds mean but people have to work if they can’t afford their lifestyle

my mum had cancer and I was there every day tending to her or seeing her in hospital and then worked nights

as I had to or wouldn’t be able to afford bills

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 23/08/2022 18:41

I didn't really get the impression that the poor mum actually wanted to start a business.

Also, she didn't really learn that you can get what you want like she said at the end of the episode.
It was obvious she was just saying that and she had no conviction behind it

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/08/2022 21:28

BE interesting if they do a follow up in a years time

Can anyone find Hadia’s background?

Golfwithfriends · 28/08/2022 22:00

I agree, if felt very staged tonight. This series also seems more focused on the peoples' careers and it's quite boring. I'm sure previously when I watched you saw more of the kids, what meals they cooked, putting money in the electric meter etc and it felt more real.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/08/2022 22:11

Been like that last series as well

the rich will make a job or sponser the poorer family

agree the previous series were better

will watzh tonight’s tomorrow

Didn’t enjoy last night’s episode at all. Just focused on the careers of poor household ...a nope from me!

Limer · 29/08/2022 09:14

Just watched it - I agree it's lost its way, it's become a mentoring/careers advice show and is boring. I was heartily sick of hearing the phrase "digital marketing" by the end! And yet another episode where the rich bloke had already experienced poverty - where's the fun in making him live in poverty for a week?

I had high hopes of rich girl Hadia - I wanted to see her horror at sharing a bathroom, buying, cooking and eating cheap food etc. But she was just a supporting character sadly. What did they buy apart from twelve bowls of fruit for £10?

We weren't even told how much the new wedding rings cost!

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/08/2022 12:25

And I keep saying it but they need to swap with people with same numbers or kids

the the budget for the poor family had to feed 2a and 2c

not just 2a

kids need to share a room with parents to see what it’s like - not to have rooms to self when kids

tho I didn’t get why they had another child the 2yr when in debt and living already in a one bed place

again why didn’t the mum Santiago get an evening job like stacking shelves to help their income

agree being homeless 7yrs ago he knows poverty

they need to start back have rich families who don’t have own business’s and want to mentor a family

obviously the 27yr millionaire will help their ex excema cream company

Havnt seen the last 15m yet

The careers are rubbish as well. Yet another tech/digital marketer business person and how many homemade skincare companies are there now? Even I know a stay at home mum that decided to make her own skincare, so how many must there be around the country.
If they are going to make it more about careers and mentoring I would like to see real world jobs - a teacher, nurse, doctor, policeman etc
Not every "poor" person can become an international tech giant or have a skincare business in london and become a millionaire. It's unrealistic.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/08/2022 13:43

I didn’t get the £150 he offered. Was that each sale they made he would pay that ?

I thought Harry said he'd pay £150 for every "brief" that Angel devised the marketing for. Noticed that Harry isn't offering a contract or an hourly rate, so this is clearly a gig-style deal. I'd love to know how that's panned out - if Angel turned out to be a real whizz kid, he could be earning hundreds more each month. But given that he doesn't have a quiet office to work in, and is already holding down a full-time job, I don't think that will turn out to be the first step on the road to his success.

purpleme12 · 29/08/2022 15:11

Yes I wondered how long the brief would take him
But I've no idea about how long these things take

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/08/2022 15:42

What is a brief

an advert ?
