Love love love this series

s8 - e1

The return of the programme where families from different socioeconomic rungs swap residences, spending plans, and daily routines for a week.

A life-changing experience for both parties occurs when millionaire property developer and lawyer Roy Ledgister swaps homes with a single mother. Becky Biggington.

Becky lives just 40 minutes away in a two-bed Sussex council house with her two young sons while Roy has a sizable Kent estate with a tennis court, swimming pool, and gym.

That is odd that they made no mention of the rich guy’s family at all , like zilch! Also as another poster said no pics of the kids enjoying the swimming pool I wonder if they weren’t allowed to use it? I don’t think it’s all quite as it seems and in this episode the kids were hardly seen at all...usually there is more focus on the children too.

I felt like they put Rebecca (?) The woman in the food bank really on the spot.

Also I find it hard to believe she'd be worse off working. If you notice, they asked her a leading question for that one. They actually wanted they've to answer that she'd be worse off working

Rebecca does work

@Blondeshavemorefun are you referring to the person in the food bank? I can see how my post might have been confusing but I was talking about the main woman in the programme. At one point the rich person asked her family a leading question he basically said 'and what if she worked would she be worse off working'? That's what I was referring to

Namechangeforthis88 · 16/08/2022 11:46

My fave was when the "poor dad" was a joiner or something but didn't have the tools to go independent and he used the surplus cash to get himself a full set of high quality tools.

NanaNelly · 16/08/2022 11:51

ilovebrie8 · 15/08/2022 13:54

really! that is strange as I thought she wanted to get earning a wage...I assumed it was paid work....

No. It’s unpaid and will probably be classed as work experience for her.

purpleme12 · 16/08/2022 11:53

Oh they didn't make that clear? How do you know?

Ah you mean Becky.

Rebeca works and still struggles hence feed bank

Yes I wasn't referring to the woman in the foodbank though.

My first point was about her, about putting her on the spot.

My second point was about the main 'poor' woman where they asked her family a leading question

I also found it interesting that she could drive, but was doing the functional maths and English.
Is that due to what is available for free?
As in she can drive so passed the theory tests under pressure etc.

I wonder what happened at school, from her mum, it sounded like maybe she was used for childcare of her siblings, I wonder if that meant she missed out on her own education.

The bloke was interviewed in one of the papers today and said so.

Oh ok

Yes she may not have any formal qualifications. Functional Skills available through eg Learn Direct and free for some learners. Usually equivalent to GCSE Maths at C. Something positive to put on cv and obviously a quick learner so could do well in the future hopefully.

thefamilyupstairs · 16/08/2022 17:21

Functional skills are often pushed for those who struggle with GCSE's, it is much easier to obtain a pass as questions are much more straightforward.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/08/2022 19:21

Wonder why his family and kids didn’t do it

E2 tomorrow

millionaire mark harvey and his family (yah) swaps homes with billie Thompson who is in debt

mark has a property portfolio that is worth millions and Nikki survives by dipping her hand into her mums dens hard earned savings

obv we know nothing about this but why is she using her mums savings and not getting a job herself

her mum must be very understanding

eventually the savings will run out ……

Anyone watching tonight? I’ve not taken to the wealthy guy with his comment early doors about people choosing to stay poor.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/08/2022 21:31

Im watching marriage. Will watch this Tom

countdowntonap · 21/08/2022 21:45

Is that really the rich guy’s house? How? He doesn’t seem very bright or old enough to have accumulated that wealth independently.

Iwantcake89 · 21/08/2022 21:51

Worst episode yet! The rich guy is so arrogant. He thinks he's Alan Sugar or something. And his friends that said I saw what he did and now I own 11 houses or whatever. Like anyone can just do that! And the poor house is actually lovely - I prefer it to the rich house!

Ginger1982 · 21/08/2022 21:52

This guy's a twat.

countdowntonap · 21/08/2022 22:02

Is the rich house just part of that huge building that was shown?

Yep it was so out of order

Not everyone can be rich or even well off and even if someone is working their arse off full time if they're in a minimum wage job or not much more then sadly in this day and age they'll be in poverty. simple as

And not everyone can improve their situation and even if they could, we can't have a society full of high fliers. we will always need bus drivers, cleaners, street sweepers, shop workers etc. so the whole argument is flawed

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/08/2022 10:13

I’m just starting

first impression glad he’s taking his kids and they learn to share bedrooms as rare to have more rich kids used to own bedroom

why didn’t poor lady take her kids

she earns £100 a week as a career so min wage prob works 10yrs a week. Why not more

has nice/fake nails and eyebrows done. That’s all a cost. If she stopped thst would have more money

£16k debt. Wow

I get what mark is saying. Work hard and try and get out of poverty trap, prob means don’t have kids young. Try and earn and save some money and better yourself

I will watch and be back

seems none of you like mark 😂

I didn't mind the guy last night, although a lot of it was him doing things that you wouldn't have the confidence to do in Billie's shoes...asking for free stuff from the shop, calling around for free wood etc. He has that confidence due to previous success.

Also I do struggle to really see the value in someone who grew up in a council house but then went on to make their own money taking part tbh. It's not like he needs the culture shock, he knows what it is to live normally and not have what he has now. It's better when the rich side has always been rich and privileged.

ilovebrie8 · 22/08/2022 10:26

@Blondeshavemorefun I thought that too, she says he has no money but has money for fake nails and eyebrows...that is not cheap and could be stopped!
It was a poor episode I thought didn't feel engaged by either the rich or the poor house. You didn't see much of the kids either from the poor house...
