Love love love this series

s8 - e1

The return of the programme where families from different socioeconomic rungs swap residences, spending plans, and daily routines for a week.

A life-changing experience for both parties occurs when millionaire property developer and lawyer Roy Ledgister swaps homes with a single mother. Becky Biggington.

Becky lives just 40 minutes away in a two-bed Sussex council house with her two young sons while Roy has a sizable Kent estate with a tennis court, swimming pool, and gym.

I was a bit confused this week.

The poor family had a gorgeous home in a relatively low cost of living area.
She had a gazillion jobs, though low paid and some casual.
I wondered why she stopped the hairdressing or wasn't doing that more rather than the care and cleaning work.
And if I missed part of the story, did she get left with debt from an ex or something?

The rich family were a breath of fresh air, nothing to sell or promote to the audience, just nice people living the dream. And so helpful at the end with their choice of gifts.

I'm a bit behind, just watched the pole-dancer/delivery driver and business coach couple.

Genuinely no idea why this episode was even made. The rich house wasn't even big! And it was all about positive/negative thinking. @purpleme12 my eyes were also rolling the whole time! OMG the £30K package.... what exactly does that consist of? A few pep talks and some bleeding obvious business advice?

My solution to the poor family - consolidate your debt, don't buy designer dogs, and put your efforts into running general dance/fitness classes, not pole dancing.

Just watched the last episode with the horse-racing trainers and Sue with 5 jobs. Much better episode! Although I'd question calling Sue "poor" - she was a homeowner, albeit with a mortgage. Maybe she had debts? She just needed to step back from everything and work out what would earn her the most money - like the rich couple found out, car boot sales are not good earners.

I liked Sue's son James, and at age 16 surely he's the answer to some of her money problems. Learning plumbing at college is a superb step in the right direction, but if he got an evening or Saturday job as well, he could bring in plenty of extra money each week.

The rich couple Nick & Sarah were ex-teachers so knew exactly how to survive on a low budget! They seemed lovely people and at long last we've seen a really helpful offer from the rich side - James being paid to work helping with the renovation project over the summer.

I can see how you could be poor and own a house.
I own a house. I bought it with my parents' help (and only cos the landlord was selling our house) and the little I contributed (well, little compared to what they did) was really due to a gift of money they gave me years ago.
I've got a fixed rate at the minute so I'm ok thankfully but for example won't have that forever so then it goes up what you're paying.
You don't have help towards mortgage (as opposed to help when you're renting sometimes).
And factor in that circumstances can change with regards to jobs/how much you're paid etc
