It's like Christmas has come early! It's looks tense from the trailer/advert. So sad it's the last one though-or is it just Perez's last series? Love Tosh. Can't stand Sandy. I'd love to visit up there.

OP posts:
DessicatedWithering · 01/09/2022 16:33

Called it re him off Holby and the dodgy accent.

Why do all the nasty things happen to Tosh and not Sandy? Is it because Perez wouldn't actually care if Sandy got kidnapped or blown up?

And who is the new policeman who is possibly dating Cassie? He's turned into an outside Billy, doing everything. Does the character only exist because the actual Billy is contractually obliged to only wear a tshirt and so is confined to the front desk of the police station?

StopStartStop · 01/09/2022 16:39

I too noticed the wee spark the bomb man had for Tosh

Yes.

martha4clark · 01/09/2022 17:00

I think they filmed this series straight after filming the last one, so they could well have still been physically distancing.

WobblyLondoner · 01/09/2022 18:53

Who was it found Connor's body on the beach? I thought it was his sister but assume it wasn't as it didn't get mentioned later.

No idea where the plot is going... But I am glad that Tosh escaped. I'd have thought more injuries though & suspect one of the previous posters is right in thinking that her escape is significant in some way.

diddl · 01/09/2022 19:09

His sister was at the house with his mum when he went to tell her.

The guy who found the button - could he be a suspect? Or could he have saved Tosh. No. I don't know. A bit depressing two young kids murdered.

I thought one of the police at the crime scene gave it to the bomb man. Tosh had mentioned losing the button from her favourite coat so he gave it to her which triggered her long overdue meltdown.

... unless she realises its not actually her button and it helps identify the killer.

Dangerous place, Shetland. So beautiful and so risky. Midsomer of the North!

Guy who found the button is a police officer/bomb specialist from the mainland, so pretty unlikely he had anything to do with killing Connor and Brid.

LuluBlakey1 · 02/09/2022 10:16

I like Sandy. He is a bit of a sad soul- wants to be loved and respected but doesn't have much luck in either. He tries so hard to do a good job. He's kind and loves children. He needs a personal life so we empathise with him a bit. He'll never be a DS.

I don't like Perez's girlfriend. She's so 'holier than thou' and dull. I think she will be his way out of the series- she'll convince him to leave the islands.

Not convinced Donnie is the one for Tosh long-term but he has a determined streak.

Have enjoyed this series- just recognised Jane from Eastenders last night. I think Connor's mother is quite a nasty piece of work and not well-acted but I don't think she's the murderer. Clana is just a weird teenager. The librarian is just weird not dangerous. I think Jane and the American are involved somehow or the bloke of the couple dumping chemicals, or the photographer staying at the house- could be a spy for some kind of environmental/industrial/gas/oil thing.

I think Perez will be hard to replace.

tattychicken · 02/09/2022 11:34

In interviews that DH has given re leavjng the programme he says he doesn't know who will replace him etc but whoever it is, the show will have to be a completely different one.
Which makes me think maybe it's not just him leavjng? Maybe Tosh has had enough of rape/bombs/being away from her baby and leaves too? 🥺

LouisCatorze · 02/09/2022 18:20

I am wondering about the significance of Donnie's ex returning (could she be a suspect?). And I'm missing Jimmy's 'father of Cassie' side kick. Agree that Jimmy's girlfriend is not right for him.

WishawHoping · 02/09/2022 18:36

What is the significance of Maggie Kean leaving and Rhona coming back? It was all a bit 'oh yeah, I'm off now, bye!' and 'right, I'm back in my power suit, lads.' Is that just actor availability?

And was the whole point of the fecking- button so DS Bomb Squad could meaningfully hand over said button to Tosh, showing that he listens to her and cares about her mental state in a way which Donnie doesn't/can't, thus triggering her breakdown? Because I'm trying to work out how you could pull a single button off a coat, scrambling out of a caravan window, without ripping off several other buttons and/or tearing your coat to shreds. Or is there More To The Button?

tattychicken · 02/09/2022 18:55

Ah!! Maybe Button Man is a corrupt cop and as a bomb expert he helped the Caravan Bomber with the details of setting up the bomb, and Tosh knew the button was lost in the struggle so him having it and giving it to her was a "I'm watching you" moment hence her falling apart.

Or maybe not. 🧐

I think someone opened the door for her from the outside.

I think that’s quite plausible.

LouisCatorze · 02/09/2022 18:58

Not sure if the button is significant or not but suspect that in her PTSD flashbacks Tosh is going to remember something relevant.

@tattychicken
In your post you wrote "In interviews that DH has given....."

I read that as your "dear husband" not Douglas Henshall and thought you were very open in a public forum about who your husband is, his views etc, coming on the thread.
I had to reread it a few times to see was I misreading it.
Then it dawned... Blush

I think this was exactly the significance of The Button.

But further, I think Button guy has fallen in love with Tosh Shetland and will be Perez' replacement, sweeping Tosh off her feet and forming a husband-wife crime fighting duo the likes of which the Isles have never seen.

WishawHoping · 02/09/2022 19:13

Ooh. I think that might just be it - except Tosh, being a thoroughly decent woman, will fight her inevitable feelings for Button Hero over the course of two more series, while trying to keep her marriage to Donnie together for the sake of Louise.

Meanwhile Sandy will carry on wearing his Bee Gees blouson, yearning for someone to tell him that it makes him look a tiny bit like Jim Bergerac if you squint and the sun's behind him and he's standing by a classic car.

@LadyEloise1 @CaptainMyCaptain

I wish!! 😜 Have had a crush on "DH" for about 20 years. DH understands. 😉

DessicatedWithering · 03/09/2022 09:16

I concur with Button Guy replacing Perez. It'll be like Doctor Who where the new companion/Doctor has been in it before as a bit part in an earlier series. Button Man enjoyed his trip north so much and was so impressed with Tosh that he had no choice but to come back.

tattychicken · 03/09/2022 10:33

I don't think Button Guy is a big enough name to replace DH.
There's a few rumours online re Martin Compton (? The chap from Line of Duty?) being next. But they might be because he's Scottish and can play a policeman.

DessicatedWithering · 03/09/2022 11:40

Perhaps he'll be Tosh's second in command. That way poor Sandy still gets to look doe-eyed and woeful for being overlooked, again.

ThorsBedazzler · 03/09/2022 11:42

Oh! Maybe the visiting procurator fiscal will come back and procurate her fiscal from Perez's desk?
