It's like Christmas has come early! It's looks tense from the trailer/advert. So sad it's the last one though-or is it just Perez's last series? Love Tosh. Can't stand Sandy. I'd love to visit up there.

I love Shetland. But I get distracted by the way the scenes are directed:

Person 1 walks into a room/outdoor shot
Emotes wearing warm jumper
Person 2 walks in
Brief conversation
End scene

New scene:
Person 3 walks into a room
Emotes wearing warm jumper
Person 4 reacts
Brief conversation
End scene

New scene:
Person 1 walks into room
Persons 2, 3 and 4 emote wearing warm jumpers
End scene

Billy walks past in tight tshirt

Is Tosh’s baby called Louise? I’m sure that’s what I heard the dad say.
I hope they don’t give her relationship problems, why can’t anyone just be happy?

AlternativelyWired · 15/08/2022 00:13

Oh yes, the cake fridge-how could I forget!

Don't forget the scene in between

[windswept Shetland road; camera angle in ditch to suggest body's viewpoint? A dead sheep?]
Jimmy's Audi appears left of frame
sweeps by
exits right of frame
no further explanation

Next scene:
perpetually darkened police station office in which only four people work, and only ever on one thing at a time

OR

Jimmy's moody turquoise kitchen

ThorsBedazzler · 15/08/2022 13:51

@KurtGeigerCounter yes, moody turquoise kitchen, always moody regardless of time of day or year.

I love Shetland but feel like I need a bingo card now! Obviously cake fridge will be star winner Square.

DameHelena · 15/08/2022 14:09

I love Jimmy's moody turquoise kitchen (i'd say more teal actually). I do always feel like shouting at him to turn some lights on, though.

KurtGeigerCounter · 15/08/2022 14:13

I can't help feeling the colour choice was that of his late lamented girlfriend, who also bought the peacoat he's been wearing for the last ten years. Jimmy has many strong points, but he doesn't strike me as someone who'd grapple easily with a Farrow & Ball paint chart.

Duncan, however...

DessicatedWithering · 15/08/2022 14:20

I like the way you have to spend at least the first two episodes eyeing everyone up suspiciously. The dodgy librarian? Woman who got cramp in the water and then was in every other scene? Random beard man? Second random beard man in thick jumper? Deffo one of them.

ThorsBedazzler · 15/08/2022 16:03

That's my favourite thing @DessicatedWithering ! Although DH got annoyed with me during the first episode as I loudly proclaimed my suspicion of everyone.

But mostly:

  • Dodgy librarian, he's up to something.
  • Dodgy girlfriend, she's hiding something.
  • dodgy campervan pair (no way she's the daughter, they look the same age)
  • dodgy ex cop dad, well dodgy
  • Nurse from last series, has she gone off Jimmy? No! Can't be the jumper and coat, she's seen that combo before.
DessicatedWithering · 15/08/2022 16:37

ThorsBedazzler That swimming lady was at the launch party and in the search party so she's got my spidey senses going.

My DH declared it was "one of the ones with a beard" which just means it can't be the nurse.

DameHelena · 15/08/2022 17:28

Yes, I think Duncan loves a bit of interior decorating.

(Not a euphemism.)

AlternativelyWired · 15/08/2022 20:09

Cramp swimming lady is definitely sus. I go through every detective show saying he did it or she did to every character if they look sus. Shetland is a very fishy place. You can't trust anyone. I'd even be worried that the cakes in the cake fridge were doctored and made with weed or injected with poison. I mean, come on-a cake fridge in the middle of nowhere? It's like the gammy cake in Brave that the witch wood carver puts a spell on. Never eat anything if you don't know its provenance.

ThorsBedazzler · 15/08/2022 20:23

Cramping swim lady was in Eastenders, wasn't she? so she is definitely dodgy and will be a main suspect.

I love suspecting everyone!

howdidigethere · 15/08/2022 20:27

I can vouch for the fact that cake fridges can be in strange out of the way places. It is not always clear who is stocking them and if they have arsenic in the kitchen next to the self raising.

GinnyMackesy · 15/08/2022 21:00

I was on the thread about the last series, so I've found my people again.

I've just come on to mark my place for now and say:

Nurse O'Flirty!

Clawdy · 15/08/2022 22:55

Enjoying it! Glad all the old characters are back.

LadyEloise1 · 18/08/2022 00:03

Your thoughts on tonights episode ?

QuestionableMouse · 18/08/2022 00:17

It all felt a but disjointed and slow? Not enough of the team and too much of characters I wasn't really interested in. 😬

LadyLyndon · 18/08/2022 00:25

How fresh is the cake in the cake fridge?

Melroses · 18/08/2022 00:26

The hairdresser's in Ayr was very unpopular. At least they wouldn't have had to cancel appointments 🤔

I only watch this show for the scenery and to see Dougie's lost little boy face.

CaptainMyCaptain · 18/08/2022 12:41

Jane in Eastenders. It took me a while to realise who she was.

Wasn't the hairdresser cop Frankie's mother from Eastenders too? Ex EE pop up everywhere.

SoupDragon · 18/08/2022 12:44

Cramp swimming lady is definitely sus

hell yeah!
