It's like Christmas has come early! It's looks tense from the trailer/advert. So sad it's the last one though-or is it just Perez's last series? Love Tosh. Can't stand Sandy. I'd love to visit up there.

I think I've got a season or two that I've never seen - I need to try to work out which ones!

I'll be very disappointed if the awful nurse lures Jimmy off for a life of quiet retirement. She is far too fishy. I'd be much happier to see her outed as the master criminal behind the last few series of nefarious activities, and lobbed down a metaphoric Reichenbach Falls. Jimmy can then head off on a cruise with a freshly released Duncan to start a spin off amateur detective series in sunnier climes.

I'd SO watch Jimmy and Duncan being amateur detectives in sunny climes Grin Like Death in Paradise, I guess, although in my head at least it's a lot better.

We finished the series last night. Christ it annoyed me.
Random beardy chap as bad'un, for...reasons.
Implausible folding of man into suitcase.
Stupid accents.
Zero chemistry between nurse and Perez, and his moobs.
AND, American eco terrorist sees artist randomly in supermarket. Artist has different name. How the hell did he track down his house to go and threaten him (for no sensible reason)?

FlippertyGibberts · 29/10/2022 10:59

Thanks @BeBraveLittlePenguin, now I'm annoyed all over again too.

Ashley Jensen is the new lead in Shetland! Great choice I think.

GinnyMackesy · 23/11/2022 17:09

But she should be too busy sleuthing down in the Cotswolds as Agatha Raisin, otherwise I'd agree!

Snakes and b*stards, as Aggie would say...

Clawdy · 23/11/2022 17:10

Yes, great choice! Looking forward to next series.

diddl · 23/11/2022 17:11

Mmmm.

Could be good!

sailingsunshine · 23/11/2022 17:34

Thanks for the update!

DameHelena · 23/11/2022 17:34

Oh, that could be interesting. I'm trying to keep an open mind but I wonder if she's a bit cosy?

FluffyCat17 · 23/11/2022 19:19

Ooh interesting. Everything up to now (online chat and interviews with Henshall) had leant towards Tosh stepping up to the plate. Good misdirection I guess!

Given they have gone for a brand new character, I am pleased they are female.

Dougie Henshall in sweater & peacoat isn't exactly action man!

No, but he’s not cosy either, not in the same way.
I’m sure she’ll be good, I just need to see it.

I’m not sure if I/we really thought Tosh would get a promotion and be the new Jimmy or if it was just wishful thinking 😄

RhannionKPSS · 23/11/2022 22:27

Watching Down Among The Big Boys which stars Douglas & Ashley Jenson. Made in 1993 , Its being shown to celebrate Billy Connolly’s 80th birthday tomorrow.

RhannionKPSS · 23/11/2022 22:27

Its on BBC 4.

InABigCountry · 23/11/2022 23:30

@RhannionKPSS I was going to post this too! Don't remember seeing this film before. Recognise a few places.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 24/11/2022 08:23

Saw the film. Funny to see AJ & DH together.

Maybe sparks will fly between AJ & Tosh?
Hope she can master the accent - she's from the very opposite end of Scotland!

Hardly anyone in Shetland is actually from Shetland, so she'll fit right in/stand out just the same as them all! Grin

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 24/11/2022 09:11

You're right, but the BBC blurb said she's supposed to be a returning Shetlander.
Think I'm too invested 😂

I know she's supposed to be, yes. But Jimmy was supposed to be from neighbouring Fair Isle and Douglas H, much as I like him, very much doesn't sound like a Fair Isler Grin

That's sounds promising. She is a very good actor and I think she will fit in well.

Bumzoo · 24/11/2022 10:57

I like her but hate Agatha Raison. I hope it doesn't turn into a comedy joke type of show.

I think that's what I was thinking; I've not seen Agatha Raisin but had the impression it was somewhat lighter than Shetland.
Still, she's an actor, no doubt she can turn in different kinds of characters and performances.

Clawdy · 24/11/2022 15:11

The Agatha Raisin books and Shetland novels are totally different, so I'm sure the writers will not decide to change the whole format.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/11/2022 15:33

Apart from anything else, surely Ann Cleeves has some say, as the writer of the original book series. She would probably have something to say if they changed the format to something very different from her creation.

On a related note, are we due some more episodes of Vera soon, does anyone know? I've got withdrawal symptoms.
