It's like Christmas has come early! It's looks tense from the trailer/advert. So sad it's the last one though-or is it just Perez's last series? Love Tosh. Can't stand Sandy. I'd love to visit up there.

Oh no we're good , the coverage has stopped . Phew

StopStartStop · 14/09/2022 20:31

It's showing on the schedule...

Clawdy · 14/09/2022 22:09

I couldn't even remember who Jamie was! Too many middle aged bearded men!!

hanka · 14/09/2022 22:19

Well, that was… that.
Still think Jimi should go to Amsterdam for a mini break with Meg and get mixed up in a crime of sorts and it would end up on Van der Valk’s desk. 🧐

Not could we. He wasn't a memorable enough character or given enough back story.

Roundlampshade · 14/09/2022 22:33

Jimi Perez is going to remain a bit part and will eventually get arrested for shoplifting as his life as an unemployed ex copper didn’t go quite according to plan.

Selkiesarereal · 14/09/2022 22:50

Jamie pointed them in the direction of the fisherman but didn’t see it as him though.

ToooOldForThis · 14/09/2022 22:54

Poor old Sandy didn't get a hug!

WaitingRoomBoredom · 14/09/2022 23:03

Bit of a low finish. And why is the relationship with the nurse so unconvincing? I keep thinking it must be to do with distancing protocols in filming but still.
So is Tosh going to be the boss in the new season?

LuluBlakey1 · 14/09/2022 23:25

I guessed right.
I agree, the relationship with the nurse is not convincing at all. I find her curiously unlikeable and I don't know why. She's a bit staid and dull and that's the worst side of Perez. I wanted him to run off to Norway with Lloyd and have an adventure.
Looks like Tosh might be the new DI.

Poor old Sandy didn't get a hug!

I noticed that too Sad

WinterDeWinter · 15/09/2022 00:26

I hope this isn't infuriating but Tosh is such a terrible actor that I can't believe they'll carry on with her in the lead role. So wooden.

On which note, both the American accents were excruciating - high noon at the Shetland Corral...

RhannionKPSS · 15/09/2022 02:36

What a disappointing episode.
I think the theories on here were far better than this episode.

SoupDragon · 15/09/2022 07:48

It was very disappointing.

I agree about Tosh. She always has the same expression on her face (although she has branched out into a smile when seeing her baby)

Chumbazumba · 15/09/2022 08:13

I love Shetland but the finales are always a bit damp-squibby. I thought the twist was going to be that Nurse O'Flirty had finished off Bill to protect the hysterical Eastenders lady, and had helped pack him into the suitcase, and that Jimmy would have to choose between exposing her or not, as well as whether to let Lloyd go free.

Covid/social distancing/making this series immediately after the previous one can't have helped but I thought this script was even wobblier than usual. Like, HOW did Eastenders lady get a six foot bloke into a suitcase, carry it into the car, drive the car to a loch, then throw it in? You can't just have her saying, 'Och, weeell, you don't know what you can do until your life's at stake.' My dog weighs five stones and I struggle to get her into the boot when she's not keen. Plus, I can barely pack a week's clothes in a suitcase neatly, let alone a large American man.

We ended up watching with subtitles after a bout of particularly mumbly dialogue, and it didn't help seeing clonking lines like, 'Conor and Bryd didn't have what it takes!' actually spelled out on the screen.

Lerouge · 15/09/2022 08:39

Enjoyed the series but found the end a bit disappointing too. I found Jamie implausible as a villain, plus why didn't Bryd go to the police, if they wanted out anyway?

Agree too - I was thinking American man must have been very small for EastEnders lady to have put him in a suitcase.

Can't see Tosh as a lead. Maybe a new boss will be brought in, and that will bring in lots of tension?

SoupDragon · 15/09/2022 08:52

It was as if they couldn't decide on an ending and just picked two people out of the air.

Inkanta · 15/09/2022 10:51

Mm not a great last episode and all that frantic running around in town and Tosh screaming to confused Donnie - to just go. I can't remember Jamie, and no way can you get a man in small case. Not convinced of this romance with nurse or Perez quitting job for her.

FeedMeSantiago · 15/09/2022 10:54

Nurse and Perez had no chemistry. I agree that Jimmy running off to Norway with Lloyd would have made a better ending.

This series suffered for the lack of Duncan.

longtompot · 15/09/2022 10:58

Well I got the right people! I can't see how she got the big American in the suitcase and then into the back of the car. I know people can lift cars when loved ones are trapped underneath, but that's just a short burst of adrenaline. She would have had to keep going for a long time.
I think the best crime dramas have tiny clues throughout the series so you have a bit of a chance to work it out, and that the big reveal makes sense when you remember the clues. There was nothing about Jamie's life to make him a suspect, but then again, maybe that was the point?
It was a bit of a damp ending, but I will miss Perez. I'm not looking forward to the next series, but will watch anyway, just to see.

Chumbazumba · 15/09/2022 11:35

I guess there's always that risk with crime dramas adapted from novels - when they run out of books to adapt, the plots of 'original' new stories aren't quite as tightly plotted.

Filming back to back with the last series can't have helped, and the social distancing was awkward, so maybe forcing a reset with a new lead detective will be a positive. Jeezo, though, some of the dialogue this series...

RhannionKPSS · 15/09/2022 12:05

If you compare this series to the earlier one that featured Thomas Malone/Lizzie Kilmuir storyline which was excellent, it really did go downhill from that. Duncan was definitely a miss & Cat was only mentioned once, and not at all in that last episode.
What would be the point of causing more oil damage on the Islands if that’s what “ they “ were protesting against? Very odd storyline.

LadyEloise1 · 15/09/2022 13:18

Martin Compston ( Line of Duty ) could take over. He's tired of anti corruption and its fast pace and thinks the Shetland isles would be nice and tranquil to police.
And he's Scottish.
Just sayin.

CarolynMartens · 15/09/2022 13:29

I agree it was weaker. I don’t know why Connor had to be tortured, surely he could have just followed him sometime to work out where the caravan was? Also not to be too grim but often when a body is found in a suitcase it’s been dismembered.

We thought this, even if I curl up small I can't make myself suitcase sized.. was he a contortionist?

Also that line "I don't want to imagine a world without jimmy perez in it" or something - awful dialogue.
