It's like Christmas has come early! It's looks tense from the trailer/advert. So sad it's the last one though-or is it just Perez's last series? Love Tosh. Can't stand Sandy. I'd love to visit up there.

To be honest, a lot of the dialogue felt like placeholder first draft stuff, as if the writers had just blocked the scene out with 'Meg tells Jimmy she loves him here' and 'villain (TBC) confesses to crime and gives reason XYZ' type blah blah blah and then run out of time to rewrite it with language people would speak in real life.

I couldn't even remember who Jamie was! Too many middle aged bearded men!!

My feelings exactly. Where did he come into the story?

Mm not a great last episode and all that frantic running around in town and Tosh screaming to confused Donnie - to just go. I can't remember Jamie, and no way can you get a man in small case. Not convinced of this romance with nurse or Perez quitting job for her.

I thought he left his job because he'd let Lloyd go and would have been sacked anyway.

Ilovetea33 · 15/09/2022 16:37

I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't really remember Jaimie until someboby said he was the publisher.
Of course I'm glad they didn't kill off Perez, but I found the ending rather maudlin.

Jamie is the person who published Connor's book. He tried to deflect Perez early on and aga(n later when Perez was asking questions. It was Jamie who sent him off to Glasgow to question the ex-girlfriend and then later directed him to the Fletts as the people who were most upset about the effects of the oil spill.

We thought this, even if I curl up small I can't make myself suitcase sized.. was he a contortionist?

Also that line "I don't want to imagine a world without jimmy perez in it" or something - awful dialogue.

In the interests of proving whether or not this is possible, I hit DH over the head and knocked him out for long enough to fold him up and try to pack him into our largest suitcase. I was then going to see if I could get it into the car, drive it down to the cliffs, drag it out and tip it over into the sea. However, i failed at the first hurdle; even tightly folded he would not fit into the suitcase and I am quite strong. I think Shetland was entirely unrealistic in this respect.

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/09/2022 16:55

Thanks @LuluBlakey1. Re getting into a suitcase. I used to be very flexible and used to be challenged by colleagues to get into various boxes so I would probably have been able to get in a suitcase at one time. That's what teachers used to get up to when the children weren't there-having a bit of fun - oh how times have changed!

longtompot · 15/09/2022 20:09

@LuluBlakey1 I like your dedication to the cause😆

ThorsBedazzler · 15/09/2022 20:09

Questions I have:

  1. Where is suitcase man's rucksack?
  1. Why didn't Jimmy go to Bergen too?
  1. Was Carol Anne involved or just a bit of an idiot?
  1. Why did they need to torture Connor? Felt unnecessary.
  1. What fitness regime does Jane from Eastenders follow to enable her to heft about a man in a case? Am interested for... fitness purposes.
  1. Why no cake fridge?
diddl · 15/09/2022 20:17

I know!

I can barely lift the hold allowance-isn't that about 20kg?

TheUntiedShoelace · 15/09/2022 20:26

Have I got this right? Bill/William was an environmental activist who had come to Shetland as part of Jamie's plan to... do whatever he was going to do, and by sheer coincidence he bumped into someone he had been at school with, in Texas, thirty years ago, who was now living under a different name to escape the law for a crime he didn't commit? And even though neither Bill nor Lloyd had any reason to draw attention to themselves by making a big deal of this, Alison hit him over the head with a hammer and killed him anyway?

Also, why did no one point out in the script meeting that Tosh is called Alison, and so is Eastenders Lady? Other Scottish names are available.

NeverKnowinlyCoy · 15/09/2022 20:32

It would have been more plausible if Lloyd had come home and found the body and had helped Alison dispose of it, thus meaning he had to serve a prison sentence in the UK and not be extradited. In fact, it's almost likely that was the script up until wee Dougie said he was leaving.

What a shame.

diddl · 15/09/2022 20:36

I couldn't help thinking that-why would either of them have risked saying anything?

Mosso · 15/09/2022 20:57

I think the terrorist squad man would make a good lead. He can act at least.

LouisCatorze · 16/09/2022 10:21

I am going to need to rewatch the last episode as I wasn't entirely paying attention. I also missed the very last few minutes, as I deliberately turned it off once Jimmy was about to declare his undying love to the nurse (the chemistry just wasn't there IMO).

StopStartStop · 16/09/2022 15:08

LadyEloise1 · 15/09/2022 13:18

Martin Compston ( Line of Duty ) could take over. He's tired of anti corruption and its fast pace and thinks the Shetland isles would be nice and tranquil to police.
And he's Scottish.
Just sayin.

And he needs to get over his drug addiction...

Folding a bloke into a suitcase - never tried it but I can imagine it's not easy. She's a strapping woman though, so maybe not beyond her.

I'd like to see more of the bomb-squad guy. And less of Donnie.

diddl · 16/09/2022 15:49

Got a bit bored & didn't quite take in the end.

So Perez gave Lloyd his passport & just let him go?

Yes! This would have been a much more satisfying dilemma. He could have shared a cell with Duncan.

diddl · 16/09/2022 16:39

One of the best things about the whole thing was Perez & Duncan!

Yalz · 16/09/2022 21:09

I don’t know what Lloyd was supposed to do with his passport.

Perez told him (not) to get an early flight to Bergen, but what was Lloyd supposed to do when he landed, with no access to money and not speaking the language?

I like Billy. He’s reliable, fatherly, always does as he’s asked and keeps coming up with useful information.

He should lead the team. Never mind that he’s not even a detective…..

Totally this ^

Jonad · 16/09/2022 22:25

I thought he had another passport in the hatch bit. What nationality and name was on the other one?

Sisisisi · 17/09/2022 07:23

What a let down.
Not one spark between Perez and District nurse plus she lectures him every time they meet and poof true love!
Really annoying !

LouisCatorze · 18/09/2022 09:20

It's a pity that it was likely the weakest season of Shetland ever. I would have hoped Perez's last scene would be with Duncan and their daughter.

Also the IMbd app has a 3rd series of Guilt listed for 2022.

I loved the first season, thought the second went off the boil. I'm torn about watching S3; it might be a return to form or at least it might have good music again!
