In honour of the finale, can we have a thread about the most memorable moments over the years? I haven't watched for many years now but as a kid it was on every single day.

Moments/characters I remember:

A spider falling into someone's from above the mirror in the car making her accelerate and knock down and kill another character (I think it was Cheryl?)

Joe Mangles dog Bouncer.

Joe Mangle's wife dying by being shot at in some sort of duck enclosure (I was very young for that one so could have got that wrong).

Fancying Billy and Lance and having posters of them on my bedroom wall.

A curly haired, husky voiced girl being shot. Was she called Cody?

A wheeler dealer character called Lou.

Anyone else?!

OP posts:

Someone mentioned the original Brad Willis-he was a surfer. He got attacked by a shark and his surf board was out up outside the cafe- the hungry bite! Which later got called Harold’s !
Does anyone remember the Martin family? Philip and Julie? Philip had a son called Michael from a previous marriage. Hannah was the daughter.
Micheal tried to convince everyone including Julie she was imagining things and losing her mind ! Anyone else remember?

There was a sister Debbie too, she had some good storylines.

Hannah was the daughter of Phil and Julie, he used to call her 'Button'. Julie died on a Murder Mystery evening, she fell from the top of a building and I think that Phil was a suspect for a while.

The fake doctor was Charlotte Stone perfectblend.net/neighbourhood/bio/stone-charlotte.htm

Ginnypotter44 · 02/08/2022 07:35

I remember a scene where Mal was choking and doctor Karl had to do the thing with a nick in the neck and a biro to keep him breathing.

Yeah, they used that idea a couple of times - around the time I first started watching (around 1987) Clive did a biro tracheotomy on Lucy, revealing he used to be a doctor which he'd been keeping quiet about.

Speaking of Clive, I loved that they had him reprise his gorillagram act at the end. 😂

Does anyone remember when Philip Martin wrote romantic novels under the pen name Phillipa Martinez? Under the guise he was a woman?

Yep!! 😂
Not sure how no one ever saw him writing anything... 😂

DasAlteLeid · 03/08/2022 08:13

I remember almost all of these! I watched from almost the beginning up until the Didge/Donna/Ringo days and then just drifted away sadly.

Some that haven’t been mentioned but weirdly stick in my mind almost 40 years later:

Harold was judging a cake competition and someone (Henry maybe?) accidentally spoilt Madge’s cake so had to get the dry horrible one out of the bin and decorate it. Then Hazza tried Mrs Mangel’s cake and almost choked his guts up as someone had purposely sabotaged it (maybe Madge?!). It was back when Harold was new and Madge and Mrs Mangel both had a thing for him 😂

Mike being in love with Charlene and Scott and Jane having a little thing behind Charlene’s back 😱

Gail’s dad Lou dying at the car race track, he had a heart attack I think.

Jim and Pam Willis having an almost-affair 😱

Beth and Philip Martin having a torrid love affair 😱

Brett Stark getting a hard on every time he saw Libby and running away 🤢

I remember early Cody (Amelia Frid, she was in that programme Adventures on Kythera if anyone remembers it, bunch of Aussie kids staying on a Greek island and uncovering mysteries), she was going out with Josh for a bit and Todd was going out with Melissa, and then they all realised they fancied each other’s OH and swapped partners, so Todd dated Cody and Josh and Melissa got together! I think Melissa had epilepsy? She was blonde and looked a lot like Todd’s future partner Phoebe.

Second Cody (who I didn’t like) got shot through a window and died??

Rick Alessi was a major spunk 🤣 I LOVED him and had a load of posters from BIG! magazine on my walls 🤣

Also what the hell was the Bungle Bungles and why did Helen keep naffing off there on holiday 🤣 or did my 6yr old brain make that up 🤣

DasAlteLeid · 03/08/2022 08:18

Mark was Stephen Gottleib’s brother (Phoebe’s paralysed partner in a wheelchair), he was dating Annalise’s sister Joanna, then he found god and became a priest and renamed the Coffee Shop ‘The Holy Roll’ 🤣 that was after The Hungry Bite.

Debbie going out with (original, Rivers from Heartbreak High) Darren Stark and him holding up a petrol station at gunpoint!

Does anyone else feel that they were waaaaay too young to have been watching stuff like this 😂 I was about 5yr when I first watched it!!

EBearhug · 03/08/2022 13:32

The Bunhke Bungles are real, up in the North of Western Australia. They're not quite mountains, I don't think, but they're colourful sedimentary stacks with geological interest.

Helen used to go on painting trips there.

DasAlteLeid · 03/08/2022 16:41

@EBearhug thank you for not telling me to google it 😂

Also I always think your name is short for Edward Bearhug (massively off topic 🤣)

EBearhug · 03/08/2022 17:09

Emma, not Edward. 😀

Speaking of other Aussie tv shows, I also remember Heartbreak High. Wasn’t it on BBC2 in the mid 90s? Or maybe channel 4?

Does anyone remember a kids tv show called the girl from tomorrow? About a time travelling teenage girl?
A really random here, but I’m sure it was a program called Betty’s Bunch? Can’t remember what it was about but I remember the theme tune. Probably on about 30 years ago..

Vividly remember that one. It’s one of those things you don’t easily forget when you’ve seen it.

Ah yes Gail’s dad dying. Just remember a really wet surface, the car going really fast, and being shocked at the outcome. That one and Daphne’s death were traumatic.

Gasmyarse · 04/08/2022 00:41

The bit where daphanie was dying and she says "love you clarky"
Liked the the toad fish days.
And the Mrs mangle days
I stopped watching it 20/25 years ago.

Heartbreak High was great. It was on BBC 2.

Aussie kids shows I remember were Halfway across the galaxy and turn left, and Round the Twist.

Remember Kylie Minogue from the Henderson Kids before she was in Neighbours.

God there was was so many Aussie shows during that period (chuck in re-runs of Prison Cell Block H which if memory serves were shown on ITV very late on Friday nights (possibly going past midnight). There always seemed to be that and some Kung Fu film (Jackie Chan sticks out) with English dubs on the other channel.

Samcro · 04/08/2022 07:42

did Daphne have a baby (whilst wearing trousers) if so what happened to it.

Samcro · 04/08/2022 07:44

just googled and he was called Jamie. yet can't remember him.

Sporty2022 · 04/08/2022 07:45

Did Helen Daniels have a fiancé or partner called Reuben or Kingsley? One of them was the dad, the other the son? Probably around 1994 ish .

VanillaImpulse · 04/08/2022 09:53

Prisoner cell block h used to be on at 11.40pm twice a week, I used to stay up late to watch it. So many of the cast were also in neighbours. The main character Meg was Rick Alessi's mum Cathy. She wanted a baby in neighbours and I remember thinking bloody hell you were in prisoner 10 years ago saying you were too old at 43(!) to have a baby, you might be a bit old now Grin

I LOVED The Girl From Tomorrow! It was about a girl from the far future where everyone floated around serenely wearing white, all health problems had been cured, and you didn't need to take a shower just pressed a button that would automatically clean you. She accidentally fell into a time machine and wound up in modern day Australia and became friends with a gobby teenager named Jenny and her mum, and there was a villain from the near future which was an apocalyptic hellscape.

There was another show called Ocean Girl about a mermaid (or something like a mermaid) who befriends two boys who live with their scientist parents on an ocean research facility, and it was all about ecological issues. Then it turned out she was an alien and the show went full X-Files with government alien-hunters and a war on her home planet.
