hmm i spose daphne didnt originally have a mobile phone

Didn't she phone her "handler" from a phone box?

Well that could have been policy anyway, but wasn't the incident with the fire suppose to have been mid 80s?

There weren't many mobiles about then were there?

Even if there were & she had decided to stay, why would they have her current number?

How did she just stay there so easily?

Did no one try to find her when she didn't turn up for meetings/debriefings?

Or did she just resign & no one gave a fuck as they couldn't foresee any future implications?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/07/2022 09:55

but people did stay didnt they, in their undercover new roles, that was an issue,

I'm not sure how many stayed-especially in their undercover name.

I thought it was more a case of leading double lives/deserting the life they had set up as a "spycop".

That's not to say that some probably did stay.

She didn't have a mobile phone in the 80s.
She used a phone box.

I guess that many years later, they just 'kept in touch' with their normal mobile as I would assume she was no longer working as a police officer but she kept in touch with previous contacts. Surprised they didn't have a WhatsApp group

"SpycopsRus"?

DickVanDyke26 · 07/07/2022 10:59

I thought it was really good but wouldn't the police be able to just do a mobile number check to find out the name of the person it's registered to?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 08/07/2022 07:32

he wasnt allowed to follow it up officially though, he was told to let it go

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 08/07/2022 09:27

It was all utterly pointless and brilliantly acted.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 08/07/2022 09:28

I think the scene with Lesley Manville and David Morrissey watching Pointless was meant to be a commentary on the series as a whole. Pointlessness was sort of the point.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 08/07/2022 18:10

Yes I am sure it was

The Daphne Sparrow/autocarrot thing was bloody ridiculous. A waste of Acting.
Did like the twist where the seemingly offhand conversation about Scott very early in the series about him being rejected by his Mum and never really accepted by his Stepmum proved to be at the the root of it all in the end.
Plus the social commentary on unemployment and lack of meaningful direction leading to a disaffected youth.

diddl · 09/07/2022 08:41

autocarrot😂😂

It served the purpose of St Clair realising for sure who she was(if he didn't already) & maybe that she was "rattled".

Or just that she needed to go to specsavers/read texts carefully before sending!
