Random question. Am starting it again with DD1. We are watching the pep rally in ep 1. What is the name of the song played by the school band? I have googled unsuccessfully

Can you Shazam it? I have Shazam and use it constantly! It’s great.

Robin was pretty redundant in this series I think, I liked her last series but honestly she seemed just like an extra part and annoying in this one.

I loved this series, found the Russian bits tedious to be honest but found the other storylines much better than series 2 and 3 (1st one still the best imo).

Ok so I'm totally thrown now. I was convinced that it was a band version of a well known song. Apparently it's band camp romance.....🤷🏼‍♀️😁

I've binged the whole series - loved it! I'm a horror wuss so couldn't watch all the eye gouging and limb breaking. It's definitely a lot more scarier than previous seasons. Episode 4 with Max made me cry. Jamie Campbell Bower was brilliant. Robin was a lot more annoying than I remember her being. Loved the identity reveal in ep 7. Can't wait for July!

Agree with PP that the sister Nancy looks way too thin - hope she's OK.

Yes she is, I hate commenting on women's appearances but there are a lot of physical signs (beyond being super slim) that she perhaps does. I know this sounds awful but I think it's really irresponsible for them to have cast her in the role- for her sake and for the young people watching.

I agree with you, Dinotour. Perhaps she is naturally that thin but this is a show marketed to young people and I don't think this is a healthy ideal to promote to fans of the show.

Watched ep 2 now. Quite OK. I am getting into it a bit now. Hoping it carries on being OK, (or gets even better!)

Also agree about Nancy. Like others on here, I don't like body-shaming ... HOWEVER... I thought she was a bit on the thin side before, but this season she is very VERY thin. Not a scrap of flesh on her, and no muscle definition or anything. As has been said, I hope she's OK. Her body is very tiny. Kinda makes her head look large.

My friend's DD was very very thin some 10-12 years ago. She is 5 ft 8, and was 7 stone. Made her eyes look large and borderline bulbous, and her head look huge. Her face looked long and gaunt. She gained 3 stone some 4-5 years ago over about 2 years, and settled at 10 and a half stone. She looks great now, and her eyes and head look normal. Also her face doesn't look long anymore. She was just waaaaay too thin.

I don’t think it’s great to be speculating on her body though. Would you say it was ‘irresponsible’ for them to cast an overweight actress on TV because it could influence the audience? People of all sizes are on TV. Some very very overweight and some thin.

I liked her in this series but she didn’t get a lot to do - I preferred her in the first and second when her and Jonathan were on their ‘monster hunting’ mission! I think they have lots of chemistry together weirdly, although every time they kiss etc ds always reminds me that Jonathan beat up Steve after Steve confronted him about taking covert pictures of him and Nancy in his home. I always forget that - it was kind of swept under the rug?

@poorbuthappy

Ah. I couldn’t Shazam it since my phone was upstairs but I thought it sounded like high school musical. Which has made me feel old considering Zac Efron is now playing a dad to a little girl very like Eleven!

Reading these I'm glad I'm not watching it.
I should have left it at season 2

I came on to say about Nancy too. I thought in previous seasons that she looked very thin but having had my own DD diagnosed and hospitalised with Anorexia last year I can see all the tell-tale signs of an ED. She looks malnourished. It is hugely irresponsible and shocking of them to have cast an actress so underweight.

It's not the same though is it. Yes being obese say isn't healthy, but ana is a very competitive illness and can cause more severe issues more quickly. I know it's more complex than ah I want to look like thay but still. Netflix aren't arsed though, they cast Lily Collins who has been open about grappling with an eating disorder previously into a programme focused around designer clothes; of course she lost masses of weight between series 1 and 2. More importantly in a way than the influence, its a really toxic environment for someone still in the throws of one. There are lots of illnesses that people wouldn't be cast with because it would be harmful to their health, but because this one gives a certain aesthetic I think some casting directors actively like it.

Yeah lots of characters felt pretty redundant this series (so far), perhaps they'll actually do something in the final 2 or maybe next series.

Finished last night. Loved it! I'm going to rewatch all series between now and July. On occasion it felt like there were too many story lines; Alaska, Nevada, El and Hawkins. I enjoyed the new characters. I really like Robin, so many neurodiverse signs, but being the 80s she's seen as quirky. Love Steve and I still cannot stand Jonathan.

I just think the last thing we should be doing is speculating about the young woman’s body, diagnosing her with an earring disorder, and announcing that she shouldn’t have been cast because we think she has anorexia. Of course if you really feel it’s so damaging you can vote with your feet and choose not to watch rather than criticising her weight online.

*eating disorder! Not an earring disorder.

I enjoy the programme so I'm going to watch it. Not speculating when it's really really obvious, and yes I do think casting execs should have a level of responsibility to both the audience AND the actor so no I don't think she should have been cast for her own sake as well as others. If you don't like it you can vote with your feet and ignore comments about it 💁

And to be honest casting directors don’t really have a ‘responsibility’ to the audience. Otherwise they’d only be able to cast super healthy individuals (not too skinny, not too fat) and show them doing healthy things. No smoking, drinking, drugs. All of which have been in this programme! It’s not a programme aimed at little kids, and unfortunately the audience has the responsibility over their own lives.

There's a difference between showing different body types and lifestyle choices and someone who is evidently suffering with an eating disorder.

Unfortunately my DD found it hugely triggering so she won’t be watching anymore. And I agree with the other poster it’s not speculative when it is plain to see.

But then someone doing drugs is ‘struggling with an addiction’ aren’t they? The show actively glorifies/makes comical the issue of drugs. Of course I’m sorry if seeing someone so thin might trigger anyone, but diagnosing her with an eating disorder and saying she shouldn’t be allowed on TV because the show has a responsibility not to trigger anyone (but it’s ok to show drinking and drugs on TV, as well as very overweight people) is inappropriate.

I don't think we should be discussing the actress like this, and armchair diagnosing eating disorders.

It's not what the thread was supposed to be about, and if a topic had been started solely about this, it would have been deleted by now.

I'm someone who was probably as slim as that at her age, (and Mike has been diagnosed here similarly) and I didn't have an eating disorder. I ate normally, but was young, naturally thin and did a lot of exercise in addition.

We don't know, is what I'm saying. And there's enough diversity of size within the cast, so I'm not sure why it's a problem. It's spoilt the thread.
