I agree, that’s specifically why I was pointing out that it’s not appropriate to randomly start criticising her for being ‘too skinny’ and straight up saying she shouldn’t have been cast/shouldn’t have been allowed on TV. It’s inappropriate.

I've never been a fan of Lucas as a character. If he got killed off, it wouldn't bother me. He's just not likeable and sometimes feels like he is just there

I feel the same about Mike 🫢

Steve on the other hand 🥰

I thought that a little bit about Lucas. I don’t dislike him as a character but he feels a bit surplus - I think of him as Erica’s brother! But I think he doesn’t really get a lot to do if that makes sense. Like a lot of the time he seems to just be hanging around the group while they’re doing something else. I felt a little bit the same about Argyle although I found him funny/charming. They could sort of be lifted from the show without really affecting the plot very much. Especially since it’s really a big cast at the moment.

But yes to Steve! I love him being frustrated that he’s ended up head of the babysitter’s club. And also being semi-jealous that Dustin has a new ‘big brother’ figure. He’s always been a sweetie.

I actually don't find many of the original cast that likeable anymore. Apart from Steve. And maybe Will becuse its so cute the way he looks at Mike.

I like both the two new lads though.

Eleven has always seemed really dull to me and dustan was adorable but now, meh.

I think it’s partly because there’s just so many of them. If there was a smaller cast then each one could get more development so it would be easier to get attached. But there are so many characters that not all of them end up even being plot relevant. I mean, I enjoyed Robin last series but she is another one that could have been lifted right out this series without really affecting the plot. Think it’s part of the trouble of a mega big cast - it’s hard to make everyone relevant and give everyone good development.

I found Nancy a bit meh and annoying in the last seasons but I liked her in this season!

I'm not wanting to post any spoilers but I'm so interested to see what happens with her in the next 2 episodes! I also want to know about Steve too!!!

I thought the person in season 4 who visits Max during her nightmare is the monster but during the start of episode 7, I called it! Didn't expect it though!

Season 4 was probably my fave! It wasn't bad in terms of horror and oh my god I'm such a wuss, I hate horror but I think what helped is that those types of deaths just don't happen so I could handle it. But I did have to leave the room during the "fight" in the prison camp with you know what!

Im so confused about this part of the plot and I’m wondering if I’m misremembering it. Can anybody explain it?

If Vecnor murdered all the children at Hawkins lab, who were the ex laboratory kids that eleven met back in series 2..?
They were all older than her. So considering she is 11 they would have been 2-10? But we just saw all of them get killed.

I don’t think it’s great to be speculating on her body though. Would you say it was ‘irresponsible’ for them to cast an overweight actress on TV because it could influence the audience? People of all sizes are on TV. Some very very overweight and some thin.

I liked her in this series but she didn’t get a lot to do - I preferred her in the first and second when her and Jonathan were on their ‘monster hunting’ mission! I think they have lots of chemistry together weirdly, although every time they kiss etc ds always reminds me that Jonathan beat up Steve after Steve confronted him about taking covert pictures of him and Nancy in his home. I always forget that - it was kind of swept under the rug?

Nancy and Jonathon are a couple in real life. Been together since 2016. Perhaps explains their chemistry ☺️

She was sat in the room but she wasn't in the flashbacks of the bodies..... I wonder if she will appear in the next 2 episodes.

Oooh that DOES explain it 😂 I don’t know, personally I think Steve’s the better choice of the two. But they do just have chemistry and she just doesn’t really have that with Steve. Oh dear it’s all a bit dramatic! They could use the full last episode just on tying up romances!

@Fedupofthis123

Are we actually told those kids she met were 2-11 though? Or that the kids in the lab were necessarily 2-11? We don’t really know how old she is in the flashback/simulation type thing.

I’m totally rooting for Steve and Nancy. Simply because Steve is the best character and I want to see him happy.

Will is almost certainly in love with Mike. He paints the picture (he doesn’t give it to him) for him. His school project was on Alan Turing too.

I haven’t quite finished the series, the sequence with Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill, was brilliant.

It’s definitely more horror this series. There’s inspiration from Nightmare on Elm Street, IT and I agree Hell Raiser.

My favourite bit so far is Suzie’s house. I loved all the manic children and thought this was perfect homage to those 80s American films set in massive houses with no real parental influence like Uncle Buck or Home Alone. The big sister looked totally like the eldest girl in Uncle Buck too.

I must confess I skip through the stuff set I’m Russia, find that hard to watch.

Im enjoying it all really, it’s a pastiche, it’s cheesy, but it’s pure escapism.

When Robin says she has no filter -- we didn't use that term ("filter") in the 80s.
Bit like the rainbow badges in Derry Girls in 90s: rainbow as everyone-knows-it LBQT symbol didn't exist, then imho. hmm.

Will has grown on me a lot, under-developed. Steve is lovely but Nancy is still wrong for him. I still ship Steve with Robin. Can't she become a teeny bit bi? Disappointed Jonathan became a pothead.

ps: Erica's OTP personality is so jarring : but it's true to the period. This was right after Gary Coleman had played the same personality type on TV for years. it rings as credible.

Why is Nancy such an arse to Robin? It’s annoying me Nancy isn’t the most likeable character in the first place im
onl on episode 3 though

If you’re only on ep3 this may be a spoiler but obviously Nancy doesn’t know Robin’s a lesbian. I think she sees how close Robin is with Steve and feels a bit jealous/possessive and blames Robin. I think she still sort of likes Steve and feels caught between him and Jonathan since Jonathan is pulling away from her.

Not a spoiler, but does anybody else have that Kate Bush song still stuck in their head!

We've now finished the episodes. Enjoyable escapism, as a pp, I think, said. Looking forward to the last two episodes in a few weeks.

I really enjoyed it, much more than series 3 which fell flat for more and was overall disappointing.

I've just started rewatching the very first episode and it has struck me how stylised the characters wardrobes are now. The dress in series 1 was much more relaxed and 'realistic' where as now it seems more like how a person that hadn't lived during that time thinks people dressed. It's as though they have raided H&M and tried to go retro.

I think that's a common thing when comparing first series to present series iyswim. Bigger budget, more raw, less polished, evolved themes etc.

Some Evil Dead vibes too. We binged it all in one day. Vegged on the couch, curtains closed and ordered in pizza. DH said it was one of the best family weekends we've had ☺️.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head about 80s references.

I enjoyed this series more than others.

I’ve never listened to much Kate Bush, but now thinking I should see what’s available on iTunes. I bought Jim Croce’s greatest hits after seeing Hopper dancing to You Don’t Mess Around with Jim in the previous season 😁
