Binged it, loved it, binged it again to Shazam all the music!!

Anyone else watched it?

Gay, geeky teen falls in love with supposedly straight, popular, rugby playing lad. Just very sweet high school drama.

A few people here have mentioned Schitts Creek….I have never heard of it. Is it a more sinister version of Dawson’s Creek????

Not sinister at all!

BiscuitLover3678 · 15/05/2022 19:49

schitts creek is created by Dan Levy and his dad who also star in it. Look him up 🤗

Will there be a second series of Heartstopper? Does anyone know?!

It's not been announced yet, but I'd be suprised if there isn't.

I would be very shocked if it wasn’t renewed for a second season. As most of the actors are sitting A-level exams right now, I imagine any announcements will be delayed until well after that as they wouldn’t be able to attend interviews etc for the next few weeks.

This is why I stopped with the mumsnet feminism board. Such a shame but after some particularly disgusting comments I can’t take them seriously.
It’s definitely for another show. I don’t know anyone, particularly kids, who think transitioning is easy 😂🙄

This is such a lovely and interesting thread. It's so important to help young people to be happy, comfortable and proud of who the are including their sexuality.

I feel reassured that if my dc came out as gay, they would hopefully face much less stigma and humiliation than when I was young.

I also think it's great that many parents have, at least on the whole, shifted their views about homosexuality and are able to be much less judgemental and much more supportive of their children if they come out to them.

I feel strongly that young people should be able to present as they feel comfortable (feminine/masculine) but without medical intervention.

This is a very important stream from a lovely young man who did the whole medical transition process and regrets it massively. He's incredibly insightful and seems like a lovely person.

I personally would never have thought just how damaging a medical transition can be and thought that sharing this clip might be interesting and informative for others, especially if they are parenting young gay dc.

Note, the software / hardware analogy is very powerful.

Just rewatching the series. So many brilliant scenes but the one where Nick goes to Charlie’s after the party when they have their first kiss and Nick just keeps saying over and over again ‘I’m just so confused, it’s so confusing’… you can really feel the turmoil that’s going on inside his head and heart…❤️

100% this.

I love this scene and he acts it out incredibly well!!! It’s one of my favourite scenes in the series.

VivienneDelacroix · 16/05/2022 19:07

I haven't seen Beautiful Thing mentioned in the recommendations. A lovely coming of age film from 1996.

Alice has done an amazing job with the novel and script hasn’t she.

The disco scene is very good, being able to give yourself permission to do something when you see someone paving the way for you.

A very good queer news day today, Yas is going to be Dr Who and Jake Daniels came out. A huge day for British football, not only that but it has taken a child being brave.

That is all fantastic news…hope it doesn’t have an impact on series 2 though? 🤷🏻‍♀️

There is a thank you card for Alice Oseman and the cast going around on the internet (started on Reddit). Please sign it if Heartstopper brought you joy:

TigerLilyTail · 17/05/2022 05:50

I think Yas is going to play Rose in Doctor Who, right? Ncuti Gatwa will play the Doctor. Great casting!

Mumsnet will probably explode though! I hope the “I’m not transphobic, I just don’t think trans people should be normalized” crowd give theirs heads a wobble before complaining. They won’t though!

I also love Sex Education and apparently Ncuti s still planning to be in the next series so I hope Yas will be in the next series of Heartstopper, too. I suspect it’s not such an expensive series to make, So, I hope Netflix green-lights it.

Nick looks like the pictures of my husband when he was 17 🥰 I agree I dont fancy the 17year old actor it just takes me back to my 17year old first love and how lovely it was. And how beautiful the story of heartstopper is. 💕

Thia sums it up for me too.

I mean Nick does have great hair, a great torso and he looks good in a school uniform, but actually, it’s just the nostalgia that I love. I remember when I was 15 and absolutely infatuated with a boy and we had a wonderful high school romance, and this programme takes me right back to those days. It’s heart warming.

However, the series did lead to me asking my husband last night if he’d ever kiss another guy, to which he adamantly said NO, so there goes that little fantasy 😂

DistrictCommissioner · 18/05/2022 17:06

It’s totally the nostalgia for me. When Nick said ‘I love liking you’ it reminded me for the first time in years that me & my 16 year old boyfriend had an intermediate stage between like & love of like liking each other in order to convey the depths of our emotion. Cute intense times.

my husband has found it a bit upsetting - I did know he had explored his sexuality a bit in his early 20s before we met - think it’s reminded him again of the ‘straight’ jacket that was around him from parents, school etc.

Perroquet · 19/05/2022 04:22

Is it just me or is Nick's smile even more adorable in a slightly smirk-y way because it's lopsided -- one corner of his mouth rises higher than the other? I watched an interview with the actor Kit Connor and noticed it there too.

LethargeMarg · 19/05/2022 07:34

Well I've now been banned from talking about it at home 🤣 I keep saying to dh 'I'm never going to have that feeling of lust and longing again because I'm so old' think it's generated a mid life crisis!! Oldest dd (16) has made it quite clear a 45 year old menopausal woman is not the target audience but I don't care I've just spent £40 ordering the books !! You can also read them on tumblr- it does start to deal with some heavy issues but remains so lovely and sweet and the programme is such a good version of the comic and so well cast.

That’s funny! I read the first book but because I’ve seen the series I didn’t really appreciate it to be honest. But there is an excerpt from the script at the back which I really enjoyed reading. Does anyone know if the scripts are available to read?

Absolutely!

I know he’s only young, and he’s playing a school boy, but he’s very pleasing to the eye 😂

He’s definitely going to be a big star…but I hope it doesn’t change him too much. There’s an interview called An Actor Despairs on YouTube which is a really good insight into how Kit thinks about acting etc. I am just so impressed by how mature he is. I think there are echoes of Eddie Redmayne (although obviously Kit is extremely talented in his own right) but he can also sing so who knows what’s next in the pipeline for him?!

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 19/05/2022 20:39

I've just started Love Victor, on ep 4 and I'm not moving until I've seen it all.
Victor and Benji, awwww (also slightly yum!)

PaddlingLikeADuck · 19/05/2022 20:57

Where are you watching Love Victor?

Its not appearing on my Netflix 🤷‍♀️

Simonjt · 19/05/2022 21:00

I’m fairly sure it’s on Disney+

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 19/05/2022 21:12

Yes, It's Disney+
