Binged it, loved it, binged it again to Shazam all the music!!

Anyone else watched it?

Gay, geeky teen falls in love with supposedly straight, popular, rugby playing lad. Just very sweet high school drama.

I’ve watched it way too many times.

Are there any other shows on Netflix that are of a similar theme? I do feel a bit lovey dovey about boys realising their hidden feelings for other boys.

Love Victor is very cute (a series based on love simon), but it is on disney+ I think rather than netflix. I think love simon may be on netflix.

Young Royals is quite good, go for subtitles rather than dubbed.

They’re adults, but schitts creek is lovely.

Simonjt · 15/05/2022 13:10

Oh, and if you like gay rugby players, theres a film about our club, steelers, the worlds first gay rugby club, its free on prime.

I love, Love Simon, I read the book first and was so excited when they made the film, I have Disney so I'll watch Love Victor.
120BPM is a French film, set during the early 90's about AIDS, much more adult but the relationship in it is lovely.
You need many tissues for that though.

Young royals is VERY GOOD

And schitts creek is my favourite show for lots of reasons

PaddlingLikeADuck · 15/05/2022 14:50

I’ve watched Young Royals and really enjoyed it. Poor Willhelm…

I absolutely love the film, “Love Simon” - I’ve got a bit of a crush on that actor anyway so seeing him in a film where he’s crushing on guys made my day 😂

I do love romantic guy-on-guy programmes ❤️

He was brilliant in Maid, I almost couldn't believe it was the same actor.
I don't want to appear weird, but it's possible I've seen almost every gay film on Netflix...
I also named my car Elio

Any good gay film recommendations???

What is it with women enjoying gay men storylines?!

Brokeback Mountain obviously 😬
God's Own Country also supposed to be good but I haven't seen that.

PaddlingLikeADuck · 15/05/2022 15:36

A few people here have mentioned Schitts Creek….I have never heard of it. Is it a more sinister version of Dawson’s Creek????

Lol! It’s a comedy about a rich, spoilt family who lose their fortune and end up living in a motel in a small town. I think it’s really funny!

The son, David, is pansexual. The mum is completely bonkers.

HeidiWhole · 15/05/2022 15:43
Grin If you like love Heartstopper you'll love Schitt's Creek. The very opposite of sinister

You must watch GOC immediately, it's amazing, the love story and the angst is so real and the scenery is stunning.
Brokeback obvs a fave, I've also recently really enjoyed Cobalt Blue, the scene when he squashed the orange cracked me up, mainly because of the peach scene in CWMYN!
Are gay guys and fruit a thing?

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 15/05/2022 15:45

CMBYN
Obviously that autocorrected!

BiscuitLover3678 · 15/05/2022 15:55

Cmbyn?

there might be a schitts creek movie!!

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 15/05/2022 17:30

Call me by your name, it's my absolute favourite.

I've never seen Schitt's Creek, I'm guesing I should?

Gods own country, its a really good respresentation if internalised homophobia. Also very little dialogue and brilliant use of scenery, body language etc.

cobalt blue
Alex strangelove
I am Jonas
The half of it
Holding the man (very traumatic!)
I am Michael
Single all the way (actual cheese)

PaddlingLikeADuck · 15/05/2022 17:46

I might just have to go to a Gay Bar and get my kicks there rather than obsessively watching Netflix shows 😂

In the nicest way, please don’t, a lot of gay bars have effectively been destroyed by straight people treating them as a playground/petting zoo.

Can I ask, just out of curiosity…..

Whenever I think of straight people going to Gay Bars I always imagine gaggles of crazy women on Hen Nights etc but do you think straight men ever visit them?

I have never been to one so I wouldn’t even know what to expect. I always assumed it would just be a normal bar but I know social media and stereotypes can often portray them to be something different.

magnoliaabomination · 15/05/2022 18:06

I remember being questioned by a random punter on why I was at a gay bar with two friends once. "He's gay, he's trans and I'm bi" soon shut him up Grin (all true by the way)

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 15/05/2022 18:08

I don't go to any bars so you're safe from me!

Seen all of them, loved all of them.
I'd add The dance of the forty one

There's a few Korean and Taiwanese ones I've enjoyed recently too so I'll look up the titles.

SarahAndQuack · 15/05/2022 18:48

I thought God's Own Country was excellent but woah, so sad.

It's not quite the same but I did enjoy Grace and Frankie, which is dominantly focussed on a friendship between two chalk-and-cheese women throw together, but which has fabulous bits from Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston as a later-life gay couple.

Thats happened to quite a few places, so now places are much much stricter about who can enter. I’m in London, for a while heaven and gay had a problem with straight women sexually assaulting men.

Straight men, no idea, if they’re there, they’re keeping quiet/behaving quite well.

I think the only real difference I notice when I think about straight bars/clubs is that gay clubs have people from every age group, where as straight clubs seem to be more 18-30. We don’t beat each other up at the end of the night either. They’re generally busy every night, most of us don’t have children, so you can go out out whenever you want.

Yes! Takes some people a few seasons to get into (basically they start off as terrible people and change). Very good depiction of a gay couple which ends up lovely.
