Binged it, loved it, binged it again to Shazam all the music!!

Anyone else watched it?

Gay, geeky teen falls in love with supposedly straight, popular, rugby playing lad. Just very sweet high school drama.

Love it. It’s so sweet and they are just so lovely with each other.

I have read the books. They are graphic novels so your read then very quickly but they are just like the series.

Charlies’s eating disorder is a subject of a later book. There is a novella called Nick and Charlie which is set after all the graphic novels but heartstopper 5 is yet to be published. There is a webtoon where you can read it all for free.

my bi Dd introduced me to the books a while back. She loves them and is a bit reserved about the tv adaptation.

Pourmeanotherwine · 02/05/2022 09:52

I've started watching this with my gay daughter ( who binged watched it the day it came out and is re- watching with me). Enjoying it so far.

Simonjt · 03/05/2022 13:09

We finally finished it yesterday.

I enjoyed the final four as much as the first four.

I’m going to watch it again with my son, he saw one and said Nick was me, yes, if I was cool, good looking and nice at school 🤣

I can see why it got 100% on rotten tomatoes.

Attached photo is very much me on the daily.

Awwww.
You must read the books now.

CSR721 · 03/05/2022 14:34

I am in love and addicted to this series!! It's so sweet and the characters are so loveable. I've watched it too many times already. The webcomic is available for free online if you don't want to buy the books x

mrsjg · 03/05/2022 15:58

I watched this over the weekend - loved it.

You can read all the books online on the authors tumblr account

How many times is too many times for a 37 year old straight woman to watch Heartstopper??

Asking for a friend.

No such thing as too many for a series you like.

Although the melancholy and feeling of loss might cap my viewings.

truhamboys · 03/05/2022 22:36

Love this show so much, I've changed my username in honour of it.

It's such a lovely heartwarming show that like @MrsBooks I'm contemplating a re-re-watch. And maybe another after that.

I'm 44 and have watched it 8 times, I'm not even ashamed!
It's just so lovely.

Young Royals on Netflix is also a favourite, it's less lovely, has more sex but some v dodgy bits, but the gay teens falling in love is v sweet, also the guy who plays Simon irl, fucking hell, I almost would, he's like a younger, Swedish Harry Styles!

There are some reviews wondering who the audience is - no one has suggested married women in their thirties and forties but here we are 🤷‍♀️🥰

8!!! Where do you find the time?!

I have also decided the main characters represent the unmet needs of queer young people, love, protection, loyalty, kindness and general warmth/safety.

CornedBeef451 · 04/05/2022 12:30

I really enjoyed it after my DD aged 13 recommended it.

I liked that it was all so chaste as they are very young. They were all very sweet.

Live alone/don't work/adult daughter who moved out!

I'm self employed and quite a bit of time is spent on mindless graft. I often prop up my phone in a corner and turn on some TV. It helps stop my mind turning to mush during those bits of time!

CornedBeef451 · 04/05/2022 14:28

If anyone wants something similar but darker I've just watched In My Skin on the BBC iplayer. It's based on the true story of the authors life and set in Wales.

It's about a 16 year old coming to terms with her sexuality but also her family background of mom with mental health problems and an alcoholic violent dad.

I thought it was amazing. The main actress is brilliant, it made me very tense but I couldn't stop watching and with moments of hilarity. The women's relationships were so well done it was somehow charming and horrifying at the same time. I would definitely recommend it.

SockFluffInTheBath · 04/05/2022 14:36

DS16 mopped it up as soon as it was released, and loved it. He read the books a while ago and has been counting down the days till it came out (so to speak).

I've genuinely had to stop watching it my obsession is getting a little unhealthy. I'm a straight married 29yo woman but I've fallen in love with these characters and their story and relationship I can't even cope 😭😭❤️❤️

OliviaBond · 04/05/2022 20:30

I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one who's a bit obsessed. It's just so lovely! I think the ED was more obvious towards the end but I might not have noticed it if I hadn't been looking out for it after seeing posts on here. I read the rest online and it definitely gets a bit deeper but the relationship between Charlie and Nick is still just so adorable.

JambalayaC · 05/05/2022 14:53

Am I the only one who was distracted by some of the appallingly wooden acting by some of the supporting cast?! The bully boy, for example? He was bloody awful! And Tao wasn't much better!

Crinkle77 · 05/05/2022 17:48

I'm going to go against the grain here. I've watched 4 episodes and while it is very sweet and I do like, I'm not loving it. I just don't know why. When I watched Its A Sin I just loved that and was completely obsessed with it like others are of this show. I can't explain it but by the end of the series I might have completely changed my mind.

Sparkletastic · 05/05/2022 17:55

I'm in my 50s and absolutely loved it. Binged it twice and quite tempted to go in for a round 3. I knew the books fairly well as my youngest is massively into Alice Oseman.

Sparkletastic · 05/05/2022 17:57

I hope they make more series but the storyline does get much darker from hereonin.

I guess its because hiring children, and making the actors match the ethnicity and sexual identity of the character they are playing reduces the pool of actors available. Joe Locke however has done an amazing job, you wouldn’t know it was his first professional part.

wildthingsinthenight · 05/05/2022 18:45

Please buy the books if you have enjoyed the series! Alice Oseman is fantastic.
