I wonder if Hannah and Nathan would have stayed together if it wasn’t for the baby?

Loved Rose in the last episode too. She seemed to get her shit together.

Hopefully they do sort out a spin off. Apparently SM is keen.

I'm glad Hannah finally mentioned that her 3 children came with her as a package, to Christie.
It was very odd and unrealistic in a previous episode where, during pillow talk of what their life in New York would be like, the children weren't mentioned.

I was waiting for the fox to appear too and for Hannah to have a few words with it. Worried too that it might slip in through the opened door to the house. I have a slight anxiety about that happening ever since the reports of a fox entering a home in London and mauling twin babies as they slept in their cots a couple of years ago. Sad

anonacfr · 10/05/2022 08:41

As I said on the other thread I am glad they didn't get back together. I don't think there were completely suited for each other.
I think Hannah got married young and felt she needed to be the married responsible one to balance out her dysfunctional family.
She should have stuck with Christie, travelled the world with him and (probably) split up, then met a Nathan-like and got married.
It felt like they idealised their marriage a lot more after they split up.
I like her single and more carefree and enjoying life by herself.
The speech she gave Liv is basically what she wished she'd done.

FawnDrench · 10/05/2022 09:00

Only thing I wondered is what was the point of Meera Syal's reappearance and what did it actually bring to the episode?
No idea, unless it was to underline the "things change and you have to move on" narrative which was a recurrent theme throughout.
She looked bloody wonderful though.

Yes! When Hannah was in her garden, I was going hello fox, come on now, and even said she should've locked eyes with the fox, given a sly wink and the fox slink off! 😆

I'm glad though that all ends weren't tied up like things look like the right direction, but we don't know Christie's ultimate choice, nor how it goes with Kate, the baby and Nathan, whether Rose gets together with Glen and so on. Suddenly Liv gained maturity! What is that? But fine nevertheless. A fitting finale.

Christie was told it wasn't going to happen with Hannah, wasn't he? What choice does he have to make?

burnoutbabe · 10/05/2022 10:30

well christie could have come back to London and been with Hannah if he wanted. So it was his choice, on her terms

But that other lawyer looked quite dishy too, who asked her out!

I thought that Nathan's lawyer may have offered Nina a job, get her out of having to work in the firm with her mum/sister/ex lovers hubby. Ie be her own person.

I think Nathan would be happy. He likes being needed. he may be an Alpha here, rather than clearly a beta!

Hannah said if he wanted her, it had to be in London and her family and kids came as a package with her.
At the very end when she comes out in front of her house, I think she was looking for him – didn't he turn up there in an earlier series? I got the feeling this time he wasn't coming back. I think their relationship worked when they were young and fancy-free, and while Hannah missed that and part of her wanted it, in the end she was a grown-up and set out her realistic terms.
I don't think Christie really wants a grown-up relationship with her that includes her family and kids.

burnoutbabe · 10/05/2022 12:04

and of course would Christie and Nathan be able to be polite as part of a big blended family? which seems what Hannah wants, by welcoming Kate along.

I doubt it, the men never liked each other.

Piemam · 10/05/2022 16:58

Hannah put it out there that her life was with her family, thus in London, and that it would never be just the two of them. She said to not answer now, think about it, so in theory Christie could come back to London. His choice.

I didn't think she was looking for him at all. Why would she, unless he actually said he was coming at that time?

That section was when she had been talking about coming out of the divorce process and realising that there was still birdsong, or words to that effect. She spent some time listening to the birds, then smiled and looked straight into the camera before turning round and going indoors. I felt she was effectively saying "I'm going to be absolutely fine, I can hear the birdsong".

Why would she, unless he actually said he was coming at that time? I don't think it's at all hard to imagine why she might look for someone – at any time – to whom she had issued an open invitation to come and be involved in her life. Especially as, as I said, I think it had echoes of a similar scene in an earlier season when he did turn up unexpectedly.

I don't disagree though that she was effectively saying "I'm going to be absolutely fine, I can hear the birdsong". I took it as deliberately open-ended: if Christie turned up, great; if not, her life would go on and she felt happy about that.

BooseysMom · 11/05/2022 14:08

Quite satisfactory as a finale but devastated there was no fox.
Still roared my eyes out for the first 45 minutes though.

That Nicola Walker is some bloody actress though, isn't she?
Absolutely brilliant the whole way through.

Agreed. The final episode was the best imo. I cried so much when Rose listened to James’s heart in the man who received it, I actually saw stars! And the acting from Nicola W was superb. I love the way Hannah went to see Kate and then her speech at the end. She made a truly unselfish choice, letting Nathan go and embracing his new life too. I don't think I could have made such a brave choice, but it was the right one.

I think she turned to the camera at the end as if to say, "look at me, I can do this".
No fox though..honestly thought he'd make one last appearance. I like the way it keeps you guessing, and I'm guessing Christie comes back to be with her.
Truly excellent acting and writing

butterpuffed · 11/05/2022 15:35

I don't think Christie will return. Hannah was reminding him of things he'd have to contend with and I don't think they'd occurred to him.

BooseysMom · 13/05/2022 19:44

butterpuffed. I like to think he would come back for her. She said she loved him and I think he's told her he loves her too. I would love to see him return in another series. He's far sexier than that one who asked her out on a date!
Also would be good to see what happens to Rose and the vicar

Piemam · 13/05/2022 22:22

A spin-off should definitely address Rose and Glen, Hannah and Christie, Nathan and Kate. But I think the open-ended nature of some of these satisfies the feeling that Hannah and Nathan could achieve the good divorce that's spoken of throughout. The Split, if you will.

Ginajo · 14/05/2022 07:53

I loved all 3 series and this series ended the stories brilliantly. I didn't like the last episode that much, too much of the 'good divorce' stuff and the cheesy voiceovers, but the scene with Rose listening to the heartbeat on the stethoscope was masterful. Both DH and I were crying. It was a short scene, but unbelievably moving.

I know I'm different to everyone else, but I think Nicola Walker is a terrible actor. I can't stand all those long stares and pauses, and she does it in every role I've seen her in. It drives me mad. I accept I'm in the minority though.

Great series. Sad it's finished but I think it's right to end now.

I do too. Might take him a while, maybe after she's sold the family house and settled in somewhere new.

There's decent sign Rose and the Vicar might eventually get together. She needs to heal and he understands that so won't push it.

Maybe that could be the spin off "Rose and the Vicar" 😄

Luculentus · 14/05/2022 09:29

I'd have been quite cross if Hannah ended up with Christie. I find him quite creepy, and I can't see her children ever accepting him.

woodhill · 15/05/2022 20:00

I really liked Rose's pale green floral, blouse she was wearing in the last episode tucked in jeans, any ideas, so pretty

Piemam · 15/05/2022 21:13

@woodhill it's not showing on Shop Your TV, where her dresses are, but maybe someone will have a clue.

Piemam · 15/05/2022 22:14

Although I can't remember Rose's blouse (I do like her wardrobe) but I know Nina wore one from French Connection- is it that maybe?

NCforthis864 · 15/09/2022 23:25

Abi Morgan really missed a trick with that last scene and the fox not being present.

Have to say I find Nathan pathetic this season. The whole ‘getting someone knocked up and not really wanting it but going along with it just because Hannah didn’t want him’ was spineless generally.

The mum reminds me of an older Lena Dunham.

I think having the fox would have been quite cheesyGrin
I half-expected Christie to turn up at the end, as he turned up at her gateway in a previous series.
Nathan was a total wet lettuce. Didn't think about contraception because he didn't have to with Hannah Hmm
