Yes, she's at home but she wasn't going to be staying there that night because Nathan and Kate were there for his nesting night. So she must have arranged to stay somewhere else (even though she ended up with Christie). I wonder where she picked up her clean clothes from? Plot holes like this just irk me!

She was staying with Nina wasn't she? Least I thought that's what occurred with the taxis. Nine gave Hannah a key (after searching for it in her giant bag), Hannah took the taxi she and Nina had intended to and Tyler said Nina could go with him and Xander. So, I suppose Hannah may have had clothes at Nina already.

Still, it doesn't hugely work out time wise. Rose calls, Hannah goes to Nina's to wash and change (Nina drops off baby to where?), Hannah, Ruth and Nina regroup and do the Peaky Leagalers at the jumble sale, and are in the office for before 9.

I mean how early were the grumpy jumble sale women there? Considering they had been there setting up the previous evening too. Maybe it was lack of sleep that made the jumble sale lady be so grouchy and inflexibleable, and enforce the Jumble Sale Code (Rule 5) of "There shall be no return of items once donated."

Oh, I didn't realise she was staying at Nina's. Isn't Nina's place tiny though?
We're assuming they all start work at 9/9/30 but we don't actually know that. Maybe as owning partners, or whatever they are, they can swan in and out a bit more?

Have we all watched Ep 5 now?

FawnDrench · 25/04/2022 22:01

Oooh that was a good one tonight!
Glad the vicar has gained a personality at last.

Really don't think Hannah will go to NY as she'd be ridden with guilt and the whole family would fall apart without her.

What on Earth is Ruth playing at with the poor boyfriend fella?

Poor Zander...

So next week is the camping trip - (wtf) - can't wait.

Piemam · 25/04/2022 22:35

Argh, I couldn't get over that Christie kept promising idyllic lifestyles in NYC and never once mentioning Hannah's three kids! Two of whom are secondary school aged.

Zander was in turmoil all episode, I really wanted someone to look after him, Hannah at one point.

Nathan is just showing himself to be a shit, which is at odds with earlier portrayal but perhaps just all his emotions coming out like hot lava.

Nina is beyond stupid. How she is a lawyer is just, eh??? But she is funny.

Piemam · 25/04/2022 22:37

I thought the camping trip was a bit much, as in some of them would never had agreed when James was alive, and also for the fact that Nathan thought it appropriate to go? Not as if he'd be closer to James for having gone is it?

Bellagio40 · 26/04/2022 03:47

You can’t just move to New York, Hannah wouldn’t be allowed to stay longer than three months. It’s a ridiculous suggestion

HalleLouja · 26/04/2022 07:20

Christie does seem to forget about Hannah’s children.

I am not sure why Nathan is so keen to go camping with the fam. At least he’s not bringing Kate too. Or maybe he is.

Poor Xander. His sister and also that swarmy Tyler. He didn’t have a great day.

I am not sure why the story about Melanie was included. Maybe to remind Hannah you can’t ditch your kids and move to NY….

Piemam · 26/04/2022 14:09

Yes, OP, why would Melanie be in the bar, knowing that Rory could recognise her when she wanted to pay him off. 🤔 But it was an enjoyable slice of life nevertheless.

A580Hojas · 26/04/2022 14:30

As so often in this show, it feels like great chunks of the stories are just missing because someone couldn't be arsed to write them.

Why WOULD Melanie go the bar when she wants nothing to do with her son? What was her comment about the papparazzi all about? Is she so famous that the paps would be interested? That whole story is wrapped up in about 5 minutes of screen time, they might as well have not bothered.

On a side note, the acting by the actor playing Ruth Defoe when she tells Ronnie she can't marry him is just about the most awful, unconvincing performance I've seen on mainstream TV in a long, long time. I almost laughed it was so bad.

I've seen the camping episode. Let's just say it didn't change my mind about this pretty ropey old series Grin. I'm impatient to finish it now and get back to some proper telly like Better Call Saul.

19Bears · 26/04/2022 15:01

Argh, I thought the Ruth bit was really cringey too, @A580Hojas

"I can't do this!" Nobody says that in real life. I actually have an "I can't do this" speech to make very soon, and I can't find a way to say it without sounding like an awful actor.
I love this series though, terrible as it is!!

beachcomber70 · 26/04/2022 16:40

I also agree with Ruth's acting being awful in the ' I can't do this!' scene.

But I think the vicar's is worse in every scene he is in. His acting is really terrible and I'm surprised the casting and production teams didn't pick up on it [and cast someone else. There are superb actors out there.

I couldn't believe that in all the NY fantasy talk, that Hannah and Christie didn't once mention her 3 children! They haven't left home, 2 are still vulnerable teenagers at school and they have just 'lost' their father/family life...maybe they don't want their mother leaving them too!

beachcomber70 · 26/04/2022 16:43

And wouldn't Kate be on her high horse then! Oh...she might be the step mum and they would live with her. How would that work out?...

19Bears · 26/04/2022 19:30

Also, Hannah never does any actual work! She turns up at the office, clicks her pen a few times, thinks for a bit, then coat back on and off she goes.

Oblomov22 · 26/04/2022 20:43

Agreed. Hannah (no one) ever does any work.

BruceAndNosh · 26/04/2022 21:19

At the rate London lawyers charge, each click of the pen represents £100 of lost potential billing time.

I don't understand, Ruth tells Xander his husband is a conman who married him bigamously and he (rightly) dumps Tyler but doesn't really let on how much of Tyler's shady past he knows about. So leaving Tyler free to fleece Nina.

Ruth's I CAN'T DO THIS!
I thought she meant the camping trip at first and I thought "me neither"

Loved Rose's cream blouse with the frilly cuffs

RichardsGear · 26/04/2022 21:37

Ruth delivers every line with a bizarre mix of wooden-ness, archness, pomposity and over emphasis on EVERY other WORD. She's a veteran actress as well - seen her in loads of things over the years.

I wrote a reply and then MN wasn't working.

I enjoyed that episode, even with Ruth's hammy acting. Poor Ronnie.

Poor Zander! I felt for him so much in this episode - first finding out about Tyler, then about Leni, and then the standoff with Tyler. Question is, is Tyler genuine about Nina? He certainly seems to be?

Christie and the suggestion that Hannah uproots is bewildering - who would have the kids? Why doesn't HE move back Grin

I just love Rose.

Twospaniels · 27/04/2022 18:38

With regard to Leni.
do happily married people with or without children, really leave their spouses because they have a terrible illness that is going be debilitating and end their life?
I’m pretty sure if I got such a diagnosis the person I would want by my side would be my husband.
what she is doing to Felix is far crueller than telling him about her illness and him having to watch her fade and die. Surely if he loves her he will want to be there.

but you know what will happen. He will find out somehow and then support her and love her through to the end.

burnoutbabe · 27/04/2022 20:46

I don't understand the Leni divorce, won't it be better to leave him a widow than a divorcee?

Abra1d1 · 27/04/2022 21:57

They must be annoying neighbours. Music playing in the front drive while they are rekindling old love affairs/engagements. Abandoned tents in the countryside because they can’t be bothered to take them down in the rain. 😆

I can sort of believe this. She's such an in-control, capable person, she must loathe the thought of being out of control and him seeing it. She also watched her father die of it, so she's under no illusions as to what's coming.

Tyler did say in his last message 'It meant something.' I don't know how much he really meant it though; he seems just addicted to being a fraudster. I think he liked her a bit and was taken by surprise by that, but ultimately he's not going to stop doing his scam thing.

burnoutbabe · 28/04/2022 10:33

i suppose the big issue was did Nina transfer the money to Tyler that evening?

it was sort of left unsaid. (and i thought he was going to be confronted that evening with divorce papers from the US chap?)
