Ruth delivers every line with a bizarre mix of wooden-ness, archness, pomposity and over emphasis on EVERY other WORD. She's a veteran actress as well - seen her in loads of things over the years.

Yes and her voice is quite irritating

burnoutbabe · 28/04/2022 11:43

hang on, i watched Monday nights show and at the end of that, they were going to go off camping the next day and Tyler had turned up at Ninas door to say he had left Xander.

What people are saying seems to be from later episodes, not shown yet?

A580Hojas · 28/04/2022 12:07

Yes, people are posting spoilers despite the thread title.

DameHelena · 28/04/2022 12:15

I'm so sorry, I posted a couple... I'm on another Split thread and got scrambled about where I was posting. I've asked for them to be deleted. Sorry again.

She actually speaks like my mum does. Ruth could modelling her way of speaking?

It is odd way to talk, I'll give you that!!

With regard to Leni.
do happily married people with or without children, really leave their spouses because they have a terrible illness that is going be debilitating and end their life?
I’m pretty sure if I got such a diagnosis the person I would want by my side would be my husband.
what she is doing to Felix is far crueller than telling him about her illness and him having to watch her fade and die. Surely if he loves her he will want to be there.

but you know what will happen. He will find out somehow and then support her and love her through to the end.

I was wondering this. I mean, how is all that better than knowing she's dying.

But then I wondered if it's to do with the financial differences between her being able to sort everything out leaving everyone sorted and if she were still married and opts for euthanasia.

Still horribly cruel.

woodhill · 28/04/2022 20:10

Does her dh still live in the home

Didn't the visitor last week see her medication in the bathroom drawer straight away so,wouldn't he have noticed

AnImaginaryCat · 29/04/2022 07:10

The discussion that was had in the last episode implied she was in 'the apartment', which she'd transferred to the children's names.

The place Kate saw the drugs certainly appeared to be a house. Though the fact that Kate appeared to go to the loo on the same level made it seem like it might be a one-level apartment

However the entrance was wrong for it to be an apartment (converted from a big house) so made it seem unlikely to be the apartment. And the bathroom looked like a main one - due to the stuff being stored in it - which made it seem more unlikely to be a downstairs loo (so like an apartment as the main bathroom was on the same level.)

Not sure about how much time is suupose to have passed, so possibly it was before she'd moved out. Or she's been gradually moving and keeps her drugs in the downs loo when she's there?

Though it was the place Zander ended up at the end of the last episode wasn't it? So in other words: I don't know. 😄

I think it's her flat, with a large entranceway. You do get those in conversions sometimes, although it would have to be a pretty expensive flat to have that much space. But then again I think she was meant to be quite moneyed.

AnImaginaryCat · 29/04/2022 08:43

Did Kate not go out in to the hallway to go to the bathroom? (Meaning the entrance was part of the living area.) I admit I can't recall in that much detail!!

Obviously if she didn't, then it was the apartment, and it's off the large shared entrance on the ground floor.

If she did, then it cant be an apartment as where are the other residents entering the building!!?

Would you believe that's what I was trying to say in my long post above 😄. Though it's possible I'm still not making sense!

Did Kate not go out in to the hallway to go to the bathroom? Yes, but I meant I think it's just a very large conversion. I have a maisonette (lower ground and first floor) that's part of a conversion from a Victorian house; our downstairs hallway isn't THAT big, granted, but it's biggish. So I can imagine a more expensive conversion having a similar but bigger interior hallway.
We also have our own entrance, from/to the lower ground floor; the upstairs neighbours use a door with a shared hallway on the first floor. Leni's building might have had that set-up.

I've seen the camping episode. Let's just say it didn't change my mind about this pretty ropey old series . I'm impatient to finish it now and get back to some proper telly like Better Call Saul

😄

Haven’t seen Better Call Saul yet. But for all its unconvincing storylines, I do love the Split.

I thought Zander was brilliant with Tyler. I actually jumped when he shouted 'Get out! " and I was in floods when he went to his sister sobbing into her arms.

Also the thing with Hannah & Christie..I can't remember what happened in the 1st series. Did she get rid of his baby or am I imagining it?

I have now swapped my adoration from Nathan to Christie who is much sexier and not drippy like Nathan is!

Yes, if memory serves she was pregnant with Christie's baby but had an abortion because (I think) she was either still at law school or just starting her career and the time wasn't right. And she only told him about it in the first series, again if I recall rightly.

burnoutbabe · 29/04/2022 15:08

Didn't they shag before her wedding so she wasn't 100% sure who the baby was?

burnoutbabe · 29/04/2022 15:08

Oh, did the pregnancy happen after that occasion? I'd thought it was further back in time, when she and Christie were together.

Piemam · 29/04/2022 20:10

Hannah spent the night before her wedding with Christie, then found herself pregnant months into the marriage. Therefore it is possible it was Christie's or Nathan's baby, but Hannah and Nathan decided on a termination as they didn't deem themselves ready for a baby. Christie only found out in series 2 as Nina blabber once she herself realised she was pregnant. Nathan only found out that Hannah spent that night with Christie when she told him in a bid to get all secrets in the open, and he found this a massive betrayal.

Catlady2021 · 29/04/2022 20:12

I’m still catching up so haven’t read the spoilers. I’m on series 3 now, episode 3.
I needed a recap- wasn’t the last series on in 2020? Must be a few year ago as I’d forgotten some of the names.

Point to note- they are a family law firm. That office block they work in central London would be a fortune. Could they really afford that premises?

Also Hannah and Nathans house must be a fortune too- I think the address was Wandsworth, it had that address on one of their letters. I always wondered where they lived !

A580Hojas · 29/04/2022 20:16

I re-watched Season 1 ep 1 today just to try and get an anchor on the story so far.

I do feel it was more realistic back then. I had forgotten that Nina was already a fully fledged hot-shot lawyer (who was earning very good money) at that stage and that Rose and James were an established couple.

Piemam · 29/04/2022 22:42

Yeah, @A580Hojas hadn't Rose and James been together 5 years or so? And yep, they all came from the family Defoe law firm before Hannah left for Noble & Hale and later when Defoe's ran into financial trouble, Zander took them into the fold and it became Noble Hale Defoe. The financial workings on this are lost on me. 😅

shade78 · 30/04/2022 21:37

Christie is gorgeous and now comes with far less baggage.

Piemam · 01/05/2022 18:32

But! @shade78 , Hannah did tell Nathan (and subsequently told Christie that she'd told Nathan) that the sex was better with him! Although apparently everything else was Nathan...

The original firm, where Nina and Ruth worked, was much smaller and quite poky in an old- London-townhouse way, so more realistic for a smaller family firm. The central London office belongs to Zander's firm, which is much bigger and I assume more wealthy, and Ruth and Nina moved into it when Zander bought her out.

FawnDrench · 02/05/2022 22:07

Well what a load of old tosh - but I still cried.
Bloody ridiculous sleeping in the van.
The dance at the end.
Ruth's "aspirational" speeches the whole way through.
Nathan ... well words fail me.

Roll on next week.

Piemam · 02/05/2022 22:34

All this hovering over the divorce papers/ children agreement, now that's been dragged out. Found Kate bringing coffees very contrived, and did Ruth really think it's all go with Hannah and Nathan just because they slept in the camper! But one suspends belief and enjoys the drama I guess.

Zander's handling of everything felt realistic though and so too with Rose and Glen. I can and can't wait for the final one.

friendlycat · 02/05/2022 22:47

It’s my favourite programme at the moment. Of course it’s cheesy and the ongoing storyline has so many holes in it.

The whole Tyler thing was so unbelievable as Zander knew before his wedding that there was some dodgy Tyler past and ignored it. Nathan and Hannah not signing their papers is also being dragged out. The whole camping saga was ludicrous. Lenny presumably will now tell Felix. Hope Rose and the vicar get together.

BUT it’s great 😀. Looking forward to next week.
