I've been obsessed with this case since listening to The Fake Heiress on BBC sounds. Is anyone else watching?! I love the casting of Anna.

It really doesn’t seem that glamorous. She doesn’t look super wealthy at all.

Struggling to get hooked on this. I think I’d prefer it if it was actual documentary style. Considering it’s all feels pretend, I don’t find it that interesting. And I don’t really like anyone.

And I agree the journalist pisses me off too. She wouldn’t even check the health of her baby in that scan which is really serious.

@DoNotTouchTheWater

I don’t feel sorry for Rachel. She didn’t even end up with any debt - Amex wrote it off for vanity fair. Indeed, she’s making a career out of it.

I don’t think she’s worse than Anna though. Nor do I think portraying her as the villain is reasonable. Anna was a fraudster. She stole and manipulated. That’s beyond any doubt. Rachel was a freeloading wannabe which isn’t the same category in the least.

I agree she didn't come out of it looking good but apparently Netflix didn't make her look good because of her book deals etc. I think she seemed OK until she sold out. She didn't need to to pay the debts off. I do think it's ironic that Anna will probably end up rich off the back of all of this. I found it really intriguing, it's amazing how people seem to trust anyone as long as they think they are wealthy.

@Weekendssuck

What is her accent?
Whatever it is, it's terrible and I'm finding it really distracting. The actress is so good in Ozark - what went wrong here?
longwayoff · 18/03/2022 13:54

Accent. Anna is a native Russian speaker who had to switch to German in her childhood, then moved to France followed by a move to USA, an English-speaking nation. Anyone's accent might be a little odd after that.

Ah ok. I'll try it again with that in mind.

Just watched it and preferred the podcast. I missed out a couple of middle episodes. I don't understand why the journalist and defence lawyer liked Anna. She came across as narcissistic and superficial. She wasn't that bright either. She had a wealthy woman on her side and defrauded her of a huge amount. So short sighted and unnecessary. The art project sounded mad. Does she not realise many artists would have hated her snobby posh people only vision and it sounded financially unsound

holdingonforahero · 08/06/2022 22:49

She just came across as fundamentally unlikeable ( never mind the fraud/fake heiress business)- snobby, rude, intolerant, and aloof.
What on earth attractive people to her I wonder?

( reminds me of Mrs Merton saying to Debbie McGee " what attracted you to millionaire Paul Daniels?" )

diddl · 27/08/2022 13:36

Only just watching this & it's quite hard to fathom how she did it!

Maybe she already had "connections" through Purple?

Otherwise it seems a couple of designer outfits a European accent & you're in!

I mean waiting for money to be wired & credit cards not working??

Only her faked proof of the trust fund & she almost got away with it?

Being able to open multiple bank accounts write a cheque from one, deposit in another & draw cash before it's noticed that the account can't cover it??

BiscuitLover3678 · 27/08/2022 18:26

I’m struggling to watch this as I can’t stand any of the characters!

They are all self absorbed knobs aren't they??

It’s making it boring. Does it get better?

MsTSwift · 28/08/2022 07:56

God I agree it was watchable but everyone was dreadful and that awful voice! Also agree that it made no sense that some of the other characters like the journalist seem to adore her / were obsessed. She was just bloody annoying

diddl · 29/08/2022 17:20

Part of me doesn't get how she was found not guilty on any of it since it was all done on the pretext of having a trust fund.

Except maybe the Rachel one as Rachel had handed over both cards & left them there!

colouringindoors · 13/03/2025 22:38

Well I'm very late to the party, but finding this fascinating.

Not grabbed by the gurning reporter or her backache.

Despite Anna being a major con artist I have to say, Respect, for what she achieved! Men blag their way through life, business, finance every day. Alan Reed was promoted!
