I've been obsessed with this case since listening to The Fake Heiress on BBC sounds. Is anyone else watching?! I love the casting of Anna.

OP posts:
PinchOfVom · 18/02/2022 06:56

.... also another thing we have in common 😂

ThatsNotMyGolem · 18/02/2022 08:20

If a man wanted to continue working up until the day his child was born, and had to go away for work a couple of months later, not one eye would be bat.

Yeah, because there's absolutely no physical difference is there.

ThatsNotMyGolem · 18/02/2022 08:24

@AnyFucker

Not finished the series yet, but is Laverne Cox not playing a trans woman ?
No - she plays a woman. And it's ridiculous, especially the scene quite early on when Kacy is talking to Neff. Kacy literally towers over Neff.
queenofarles · 18/02/2022 08:32

pinchofvenom she’s the girl from the movie my girl , don’t you recognise her ? She always had this look.

PinchOfVom · 18/02/2022 08:54

Of course I recognise there - I watched veep for years and know who she is. Why didn’t you think I didn’t?

Nice seeing an actor without Botox however

Yes!!! A woman who looks..... mid 40s! Yes! Also, I really love your user name.
queenofarles · 18/02/2022 09:00

I didn’t watch veep, and really thought she long stopped acting after my girl.
But watching her in Anna, I kept thinking I’ve seen her before and couldn’t remember where from till her image and Macaulay culkin showed up on google,

Well according to Google Laverne Cox is 5ft 11, which isn't excessively tall. Maybe she towers over Neff because the actress isn't very tall in comparison, rather than because Cox was born in a male body. Even so tall women do exist. Please can we stop all the trans hate, it's not relevant to the narrative.

DoNotTouchTheWater · 18/02/2022 10:34

I think the woman who plays neff is short.

inheritancetrack · 18/02/2022 10:36

Trying not to be off by episode one and the typical feisty, beautiful female reporter going against all her stuffy male colleagues predictable shit.

fakegermanheiress · 18/02/2022 10:43

Women in TV and film are most often tiny. Like, seriously small. Patriarchy,

Somehow, Laverne Cox appears to have been exempted from the patriarchal standards that are usually applied to women. For example, while Miranda Hart is on the telly, her height is CONSTANTLY part of the role she plays, eg. call the midwife. I think that seeing more tall women, just a variety of women, on screen would be beneficial. It would be a shame if only women from Cox's background were exempted from the pressure to be petite, though.

There has been a lot in the media recently about people acting roles from background they themselves do not represent- women playing transwomen, non-jews playing jews, people from one ethnicity playing another ethnicity... it's a contentious issue, so I'm not surprised it's being brought up that a transwoman is acting as a woman. I am of the opinion that acting is acting, and we don't care that Julia Garner is not Russian- she's acting, therefore I don't care about Cox playing Kacy- especially as the likeness for the real Kacy is pretty good.

pancakesandsyrupplease · 18/02/2022 11:31

@Fritilleries

Scriberia was awesome. They were about the only decent humans in it all. You're right, maybe it highlights how awful and superficial people in certain circles are.
I LOVED the sciberia peeps, especially Lou!

I've got one episode to go. It's really weird as when the actual story was in the news I had no interest in it at all. Then last week I listened to the BBC Fake Heiress podcast. Now I've watched 8 episodes of IA in two days plus the Australian 60 Minutes episode where they interview her. I've become a bit obsessed Blush

I read a few articles yesterday about how this show has portrayed Rachel as a really horrid person. Yes she's portrayed as being really grabby at the beginning, but I felt so so sorry for her by the end of ep 7
Maybe I'll feel differently by the end?

queenofarles · 18/02/2022 11:31

the lawyer’s wife ( Caitlin Fitzgerald) looked very tall, I thought perhaps 6ft? Then looked her up she’s 178cm. Probably most of the cast are average in height .

longwayoff · 18/02/2022 11:45

pancakes try to watch Fyre Festival on Netflix too, it's an additional window into- although it doesn't feature her - the world of Anna and her like. Unfamiliar to most of us, it's a boggler.

TheChosenTwo · 18/02/2022 12:06

How on Earth were people able to book her flight tickets at the drop of a hat when her name on her passport doesn’t match what she’s told everyone her real name is?

DoNotTouchTheWater · 18/02/2022 12:18

I was wondering that too.
NutellaEllaElla · 18/02/2022 12:22

I felt bad for Rachel - she never intentionally wanted to defraud anyone, she panicked in a high pressure situation.

I 100% did not understand the level of sympathy the main characters had for Anna though. Why on earth did the lawyer miss the holiday after the trial? There was no need for him to stay whatsoever. And the journo went on a fairly pointless trip away from her tiny baby for lame interviews that could certainly have waited for the dust to settle down, her parents might have been more open to them in time.

queenofarles · 18/02/2022 12:25

TheChosenTwo that’s what I can’t wrap my head around, Confused
How did she manage to get banks look into financing her project ? Wouldn’t the name Anna Srorkin
nationality Russian, Appear on papers?
Are people this dumb ? This is supposed to be the financial capital of the world ,

chocolatebrowniesaddict · 18/02/2022 12:30

I watched Fyre festival last night and I couldn't believe what I was watching as I don't recall reading anything about it in the media, maybe it was the festival name that made me ignore it in the press. I felt really sorry for the locals on the island being scammed though as they really had no idea. I still can't believe anything really with Anna, Simon and Billy, I wouldn't trust them to use the photocopying machine. Something really fucked up about them and interestingly they were all born in the same year and they are really really deluded and I can't believe people strung along just because of the lifestyle and what they were offering which would benefit them and didn't walk out sooner despite there being alarms. There's literally bullshit dripping from there mouths even when it's closed and at their peak. I guess flies are attracted to shit.

This. So much of it just doesn't add up. If this was fiction, we'd be picking holes in it left right and centre!
pancakesandsyrupplease · 18/02/2022 12:38

And, i needed to look on IMDB before I realised that Alan Reed was played by Anthony Edwards!

No trans hate at all, but Laverne Cox does not remotely look like a woman. It's not just the height, the build and bone structure have a lot to do with it as well.

I think you are being ridiculous. Laverne is beautiful.

The real Kacy Duke was very happy with the casting.

Hotelhelp · 18/02/2022 14:35

It took me a few episodes to realise who Kacy was … Laverne has certainly made progress since the OITNB days!
