If anyone needs another reason to avoid online dating, this takes it to another level! It's hard to believe this guy got away with it for so long.

@Gilda152

All I've seen so far is someone trying to bag a multi-millionaire on tinder

Plot twist: it doesn't go well

First post and we have crashing misogyny. Have a medal 🏅
sweetbellyhigh · 07/02/2022 17:20

@Thethreecs

That's exactly my take on it.

Very cleverly executed doco.

The women could not have been better TV is they had been cast, extremely glamorous, articulate and self aware.

Loved how they joined forces to fight him.

Love love love the third woman who went through with the plan to swindle him back. That took some gumption.

Disappointed but unsurprised by the victim blaming that is a theme of every discussion about this doco.

And yours is just a knee jerk response.
Ok, no women are ever attracted by wealth. That just never happens.

Nobody is saying the man in this case is good. He is a psychopath.

But the actions of the women involved apparently CANNOT be explored/discussed according to you. It's just not allowed because it has to be labelled as victim blaming or misogyny.

Yes. It's a complex process that should be explored and not closed down in this way.

Gilda152 · 07/02/2022 17:53

@sweetbellyhigh whatever 🤣

20questions · 07/02/2022 18:07

Yes that was very good! Another podcast in a similar vein is "Who the hell is Hamish?"

20questions · 07/02/2022 18:09

That was meant for @LittleSnakes

I listened to this a couple of years ago - so good!!
JustDanceAddict · 07/02/2022 18:43

Some women are gold diggers though, as are some men.
They’re blinded by the ‘lifestyle’ and don’t look beyond what’s too good to be true.

LittleSnakes · 07/02/2022 19:18

Not heard of Who the Hell is Hamish. I’ll look it up.

Piggyk2 · 07/02/2022 19:52

@Carolbaskinstiger

To be fair to the women, the scam was pretty slick. If someone takes you on a private jet - you’re going to assume they have money. And he seemed to wait a good six months before starting to ask for money.

We’re they a little bit naïve - yes, but lots of people are.

I've not watched yet but I definitely will be tonight. I agree with you about being naive, you can be naive and intelligent it's 2 completely seperate things.

We have all said "that could never be me.. or I'm not going back!

Frollop · 07/02/2022 20:29

I agree the man is a psychopath....there are many out there on different scales.

diddl · 07/02/2022 20:46

Just started to watch it & the woman who goes on the jet after coffee with him.

Then his child & their mother are there & she still goes!

Unbelievable.

sweetbellyhigh · 07/02/2022 20:54

I love that you self identified as a misogynist, well done/ at least you have a dollop of self awareness.

sweetbellyhigh · 07/02/2022 20:56

@turksturban

That's some extrapolation going on there! 😂 😂

Why so defensive? Let me guess, you've been outed as a victim blamer.

Gilda152 · 07/02/2022 21:13

@sweetbellyhigh again I say, whatever 🤣

Gilda152 · 07/02/2022 21:16

@LittleSnakes Who the hell is Hamish is a brilliant podcast, following a similar story - it spans literally years it's enthralling - highly recommend

FancySusan · 07/02/2022 21:21

I think it was only one month.

It was indeed with the first one.

It's hilarious. You don't even see how fascistic it is to shut down discussion in this way.

You are the one on the defensive.

This is a complex affair. It arose from the interaction of women and a sociopathic con artist who flaunted his wealth. The first woman in the film jumped at the chance to get on his private jet after one coffee. She then spontaneously kissed him on the flight.

I know you find it uncomfortable that people wish to explore the motivations at work here but you cannot shut that down with your labels.

Otherwise it's just as easy to label you: troll, snowflake , blinkered feminist and on and on but I wouldn't do that.

Ghastlyghoul · 08/02/2022 00:31

Just watched epi 2 of The Puppet Master. He's in a different league of twisted, mind fucking evil to the tinder guy . Bloody hell.

Hydrate · 08/02/2022 05:18

I'm glad you posted about it. I watched it after I read this post. It was interesting.

LittleSnakes · 08/02/2022 08:47

Thanks @Gilda152 I need a new podcast

airbalonz · 08/02/2022 09:00

Just watched this last night, very strange!

I wonder how many people he would simultaneously be scamming at any given point? All of his spending suggested a lot more than just a couple of women every few weeks. It must have been exhausting to keep up with? Although seemed like he had the same ‘script’ for everyone.

The bodyguard and ‘business partner’ seemed to be part of the whole operation.

Intrigued by the woman and the baby?? If she was a previous victim was it literally a case of ‘can’t beat them join them’ completely insane Shock

UnconditionalSurrender · 08/02/2022 09:18

I think his first date scam of coffee and then private jet trip was v clever. It weeded out the cautious ones from the impulsive ones. People get conned by pyschos all the time- some people are more pyschologically prone to it than others. A high degree of empathy is needed if you are going to be the sort of person who sends money when someone is in trouble. So they aren't just gold diggers. He pushed all the right buttons, pulled all the right strings.

The whole world they moved in seemed utterly mad to me but these women seemed used to that sort of stuff. I mistrusted the Swedish woman the most because she wasn't even sleeping with him just hanging on.

I was more shocked that the Norwegian paper people sent one of them to Munich as a honeytrap tbh. I thought that was v dangerous and v stupid.
