Not the best episode at all.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/02/2022 21:01

What was the paraffin about?

smurfmonkey · 06/02/2022 21:02

Just an excuse to be there to save the day...

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 06/02/2022 21:03

I feel very let down by the lack of fire. Not sure what the point of the squatters was? The squatting didn't bring anything, she could have been any young woman giving birth.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/02/2022 21:04

The first patient I ever looked after as a newly qualified nurse was a gastroschisis baby. He was literally green coloured from the TPN feed. He'd be 18 now. I wonder what happened to him.

The bird at the beginning!!
I'm terrified of them... I've had them in my house three times. First time Dad dealt with it, second time my friend dealt with it, third time Mum dealt with it.. All three times I screamed loudly flapped my arms and ran outside and slammed the front door!
Wonder what will befall Nonnatus 🏡??

PriamFarrl · 06/02/2022 21:07

I have to say if I was the young mum and someone with such a reassuring presence and Mrs T turned up I’d feel so much better.

As for spiritualism, so many people attended spiritualist churches after the war. Everyone had lost someone. In the Victorian era it was very common and found many more followers after the two world wars.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 06/02/2022 21:10

I’ve been too busy tapping away on my phone.

I confess I lost interest in this episode. Apart from the wee bairn.

I’ll probably have to rewatch it for the last 40 mins but looking at the comments I’m wondering if I should bother.

CTM used to be my go to Sunday viewing. This didn’t feel like it. Sad

Onto the pottery probably.

I wonder if there was going to be a fire but covid restrictions made it too difficult to film. Otherwise why all the faff with buying paraffin. I do get the feeling this series was being rewritten as they went along.

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea

With the exception of going to a medium sister MJ is really very articulate and competent tonight. I know her dementia or whatever it was has been improving at an astounding rate but she's making more sense than sister Julienne.
I was thinking tonight SMJ has gone a big Benjamin button and sister Juliene was looking the older of the two.
upinaballoon · 06/02/2022 21:14

Fashion report on Mrs. Buckle. 1 a blue dress with pink flowers, not the loveliest pattern, pink earrings and a blue check cape with zip. 2. nicer imo, a dark green and white paisley-patterned jacket with cream blouse underneath and white or palish green earrings.
This is my new Sunday night occupation. I want to see if she ever wears anything twice.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/02/2022 21:17

Did I miss the whole storyline about the clairvoyants son? Who was he and where had he been?

I was lost too toddlertea

I must have properly drifted.

I think it is because Nurse Crane isn’t there.

Yes but SMJ would be more guarded and know better

All the woman did was make her even more fearful

I always see Mrs Buckle as Joy from Soldier, Soldier. It's quite unsettling.
Samcro · 06/02/2022 21:26

@DobbyTheHouseElk

The spiritual woman looks like the granny who did the backstreet abortions.
I thought that
blobby10 · 06/02/2022 21:26

We play Dr turner bingo- score 1 for a head tilt, 2 for a pointy finger and 5 for a proper mansplain! 10 if he states something to sound like he’s cured measles or similar 🤣🤣

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 06/02/2022 21:27

Joy. When she lost Tone. I remember that vividly.

Samcro · 06/02/2022 21:28

How did sister monologue find the son so quickly?

melj1213 · 06/02/2022 21:30

@Toddlerteaplease

The clairvoyant had been in prison for fraud and he married a well to do girl and basically stopped coming to see her and they lost touch because she thought he was embarrassed of her.

SMJ went and found him, told him his mum was ill and brought him to see her.

NothingButADreamerOhNo · 06/02/2022 21:34

Gosh, found it really full without Trixie and Nurse Crane.

NothingButADreamerOhNo · 06/02/2022 21:34

NothingButADreamerOhNo · 06/02/2022 21:35

@SpinningTheSeedsOfLove or Frank Gallagher's wife in Shameless. She was a brazen hussy!

melj1213 · 06/02/2022 21:43

This series is all over the place and I find I just can't suspend my disbelief any more.

Nurse Crane would never have left if it meant leaving them shorthanded - as soon as Trixie said her godmother was ill and Lucille needed support she would have cancelled her trip (I was half expecting her to offer Lucille and Cyril some money to go away themselves)

Equally, I wanted to slap Shelagh for being so insensitive to Lucille so many times tonight - asking her to deal with the delivery (why would they not put her on the district rota rather than midwifery to start off with?) then talking about her difficult pregnancy ... just shut up Shelagh!

As for the squatters, I get Matthew might be concerned for Clover/Susie's welfare but he was creepily over invested - I was half expecting it to come out that she was a relative because they just seemed to be having far too "familiar" conversations almost immediately.

Then to top it off SMJ (whose dementia, frailty and cataracts are all but a distant memory now that they're a hindrance to any kind of storyline) decides to start going to see a clairvoyant as though she isn't a nun, it's just so out of character.

Idk if I'm even going to continue with this series - I wish they had just skipped a year rather than try to work around SD while filming as it just really hasn't worked and is making me not want to watch a programme I have always loved because it is so preposterous this series.

IsadoraQuagmire · 06/02/2022 21:59

I don't know which was funnier, the Turners "emotional" scene complete with facial contortions and Shelagh's unconvincing fake crying, or the Robinsons scene towards the end, where they were allegedly holding hands, but were never actually seen in the same shot.
