Setting the scene for next week perhaps?

Is there to be a CTM cull? Are they going to do a malkie on Matthew and rip the love from Trixie again?

If there is to be a big old fire then I for one am glad that Phyllis is overseas.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 06/02/2022 23:43

And they can’t kill nuns. That must be illegal or something. Sad

Puffalicious · 07/02/2022 00:05

Still, at least we know the other GPS in the area can’t stand him either
Grin

LazySunday I really, really dislike her too. She's so bloody serious all the time and straight-laced and bossy. Obviously feel sympathy for her with the miscarriage storyline, but ha e no time for her really.

ouch321 · 07/02/2022 00:12

I think Sister MJ and I would bond over our shared appreciation of cake.
She's one of my fave characters- she observes quietly and then quite often says something that is spot on.

I feel as if they're trying to turn Matthew into a more relatable character whilst Trixie's away so that their wedding in the Christmas special will be well received.

So maybe a fire at the warehouse where he's the hero but suffers burns so he needs to recuperate at Nonatus house for a bit?

Toddlerteaplease · 07/02/2022 06:50

I thought Matthew was going to be run over by the ambulance.

I'm
Also surprised that Dr T didn't immediately operate on the baby in the wearhouse and 'repackage' him. (One of our dieticians called that surgery by that name)

@LazySaturday I agree. She's very bossy. And the way she spoke to the mum who changed her mind about the vaccination, would not be tolerated. You can't speak to patients like that.

When Shelagh wondered how she managed to stay so calm during the warehouse delivery, I turned to DH and said "that'll be all the Weed smoke" Grin

Soubriquet · 07/02/2022 08:05

I’m pretty sure the spiritualist woman is not Val’s gran (who did the abortions), the abortionist who did the woman with x kids and nearly died, or the twin sister who gave birth to twins and gave one to the other.

She looks like a new character

NothingButADreamerOhNo · 07/02/2022 08:50

I don't think Luicille was being bossy about the Mother refusing her child's vaccination, wasn't it just before she was put on district duties because she was finding it hard to work with Mums and babies?

TinselAngel · 07/02/2022 09:07

Does anybody else think that the shoe horned in comment about the legalisation of homosexuality a couple of weeks ago means that Tim is going to be gay?

whatsthestory123 · 07/02/2022 09:17

Vals gran died of cancer just after she got out of prison
Val nursed her till she died

viques · 07/02/2022 09:23

@toomuchlaundry

Is it possible the warehouse may go up in flames next week?
I have matches...........
TrashyPanda · 07/02/2022 09:28

Given the rate the seasons are changing this series, maybe the warehouse bonfire is scheduled for 5 Nov (in CMTW times)?

Maybe Matthew could be found guilty of arson and banged up?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/02/2022 09:36

yes i noticed the gender appropriate toys, and thought, they should have mixed that up a bit!
children play with what toys they want, ie boys can have a tea party!

i did enjoy this episode though

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/02/2022 09:37

a bird in the house is bad luck, signifies a death
that and a broken mirror - 7 years bad luck

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/02/2022 09:41

the spiritualist used to be married to sting

KohlaParasaurus · 07/02/2022 09:53

Didn't SMJ have a crisis of faith in the last series? I don't think consulting a spiritualist is that out of character for her even though it's something would generally be abhorrent to a nun. And I can confirm from personal experience that even as recently as the 1990s if you had a miscarriage and worked in healthcare you weren't cut any slack for emotional distress. I'm impressed that Lucille was offered even clumsy sympathetic platitudes and a change of role.

I thought that episode was a bit flung together and bitty.

GreenClock · 07/02/2022 11:01

I wondered about Tim being gay even though there was an episode a couple of years ago where he was interested in the au pair (I recall that a few gay guys from my school year had flings with girls as teens before they came out - and one of them had a massive crush on Plain Jane Superbrain from Neighbours who has just been mentioned in the Neighbours thread!).

I’d like something a bit more scandalous (to a modern viewer) for Tim, like an affair with a married woman or something.

Tim and Sister Hilda both need robust storylines IMO. They’re underused.

More Sister Julienne would be good too. One of my favourite non-medical storylines was the one where Sister Julienne saw her ex boyfriend and he unthinkingly addressed her by her birth name. Shelagh was present I think.

ThatsGoingToHurt · 07/02/2022 11:07

I wonder if the Abortion Act 1967 is going to be mentioned soon? If it is I expect everyone will be happy that abortion is now legal including the nuns as everyone seems to have a 2020 attitude rather than a 1960’s one!

In real life I imagine this would have caused a massive conflict between Dr Turner and Shelagh.

GruffaloSolja · 07/02/2022 11:16

Matthew's got squatters.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 07/02/2022 11:50

I find it so hard to take CTM seriously these days. I used to think it was so well written and researched. Now it’s very very weird.

What is going on with Sister Julienne? She is hardly in it. Is she played by someone who is CEV? They sort of fade her in and out.

Missed Nurse Crane terribly this week. She’s the best thing in it.

cheapskatemum · 07/02/2022 11:55

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

The fabulous Ann Mitchell.

Forever Dolly to me 🙂

Was that in the original Widows? Brilliant series! I remember Pauline Quirke was in it too.
