I don't think Trixie is shallow. She has some quite radical views about medicine/midwifery practice, and isn't afraid to voice them! Don't you think she has a 'veneer' that is all to do with her upbringing and possibly being quite fragile emotionally?

I think 'bigging up' Matthew with some medical knowledge is all part of a plan to make him a more attractive love interest option to Trixie.

I don't think Trixie is shallow either. I mean she takes a lot of pride in her appearance, but I don't think that makes her shallow. I think she used to care a lot more about her social status. But I don't think that's the case now. She's a very kind and understanding person who's not afraid to stand up for what she believes in.

Presumably when Aunt Portofino pops her clogs and Trixie inherits, she will be a wealthy woman in her own right.

I thought that Nurse Crane's windfall was going to secure the fate of Nonnatus House for years to come. However, perhaps it will be Trixie's inheritance instead?

Matthew pledged 1000 pounds on an annual basis to both Nonnatus House and to the order and Sister Julienne accepted because it ensured their survival. And we learn in the first episode of this series that he's actually given above and beyond what he originally pledged.

Nurse Crane's windfall ensures her future especially since she's used to living frugally.

If Trixie does inherit from her godmother, I can see her making a generous donation to Nonnatus House, but it won't be because Nonnatus House is still facing financial difficulties.

That’s a good point about Trixie coming back as a wealthy woman. Enough to ‘retire’ take up charity work and marry Mathew for fun!

Just realised that poor old Trixie doesn’t actually seem to have any really good friends.
When the series started, Jenny had her pals outside Nonatus, including a pre-Casualty Ethan. Lucille has Cyril and the folk from church, Val had her family and friends. Nurse Crane and Miss Higgins are friendly, and of course Nurse Crane and Barbara were very close. And there was Patsy and Delia, of course.

@RCBadger you are indeed right. I'd forgotten Matthew's generosity earlier on this series. It would seem more appropriate for Nonnatus House to be rescued financially by one of its own though!
