Love how we all wanted Dr Turner to die. Never has mumsnet been so united!

I didn't want Dr Turner to die. I like him even if no-one else does.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/02/2022 19:26

Shelagh and Doctor are the only happy couple on the show! (Although I suppose Chummy and Patsy did get a happy departure...)

I just wanted some actual drama and given the choice would opt for him over Sister Julienne. I think Stephen McGann seems like a good sort in RL ( well on Twitter)

My first choice would be simpering Mrs T and as a couple they are quite nauseating.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/02/2022 19:50

Looking towards the next series... do you think we will have Abortion storyline?

Bit harsh to the Buckles, Trixie and Mr Alywood and the newlyweds!

I like him too. I wish I had a Dr who would spend time with their patients and actually make an effort to diagnose what the problem is and treat it!
LavenderAskew · 22/02/2022 19:55

It was disappointing. I mean, we knew St Patrick of Poplar wouldn't die but still felt slight hope half way through, only to have them dashed at the end.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 22/02/2022 20:08

@HelloKeith I think it's jumped the bleedin' megalodon

DockOTheBay · 22/02/2022 22:21

@playmelikeasymphony

I’m annoyed about the Reggie is a hero on the front page bit. In reality, even now ableism is a thing and a reporter who was looking for an angle like that one was wouldn’t have believed he could be a hero.
I have to agree. And although Reggie was great making cups of tea, wouldn't that reporter have wanted to interview someone who actually was more of a "hero" such as Fred, or one of the nurses or firefighters?

Yes, I do like the Buckles. Cyril and Lucille have been hampered by being a minimum of 6 feet away from each other!

Trixie and Mr Flashy Teeth are meant to be a couple, but there is simply no chemistry between them so it seems false and forced. I don’t even feel they are good friends, far less lovers. Are the scriptwriters really that desperate to marry her off?

StillWeRise · 22/02/2022 22:58

she will have a fab dress though to be fair

BertieBotts · 23/02/2022 09:54

I thought the Reggie story was believable as something heartwarming that would be in a local paper, probably not a national one.

Everything else about the crash was :o

I can't believe there was no dead man's brake on that train - seems so unlikely. It was the 1960s not the 1860s. I know crashes/derailments happen, but come on. I suppose they needed a reason with a speculation of blame so that the widow could be upset by it and then an (incredibly Hmm) fast resolution proving that it wasn't his fault after all. Finding out that a signal was faulty or track broken would have taken months. Then again so should an inquest! How convenient that sister Hilda managed to come across the very coroner!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 23/02/2022 10:02

Wasn’t it Millicent who spoke to the coroner folk?

Toddlerteaplease · 23/02/2022 10:03

@BertieBotts yes I mentioned that up thread. All deodar trains had them by the late 60's. And I want to know how he was found sitting up right, when he slumps over when he has a seizure!

That was the magic power of Dr T. Even from a distance it exerts a major force, drawing him ever nearer.

GruffaloSolja · 23/02/2022 12:11

I actually quite like Matthew as a character. Being separated from Trixie has allowed him to have some much needed character development, and I really think he's come in to his own over the past few episodes. I've never really been convinced by the Trixie / Matthew romance. I don't think they're destined to be together in the long term. But that doesn't mean they haven't been good for each other. I've always believed that Tom Hereward was her true love. But they weren't on the same page back then. They had different ideas about life. Now as time has gone on and Trixie has really grown as a person, she's less about social status and more about caring and advocating for others. I think it's time for Tom to return and marry Trixie. Tom would never have moved on from Barbara's death as quickly as Matthew moved on from his wife's.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/02/2022 15:08

Hmm. I still think Trixie is far to shallow for Tom. And definitely for Tom after Barbra.

OP posts:
VivaDixie · 23/02/2022 22:49

Well there would be no social distancing worries with Tom and Trixie. Given that they are betrothed in real life 😍 they would have the chemistry too Wink

It may have been mentioned at the time, but a couple of weeks ago when Trixie actually properly snogged Matthew and danced with him, we only saw a soft focus of the two of them and Matthew had his back to us.
Do we reckon that was Jack Ashton (her husband) made to look like Matthew? It was glaringly obvious!

TrashyPanda · 23/02/2022 22:56

Totally agree. And the contrast with lovely Barbara… Trixie needs a man with money. Outward appearance is paramount for her.

Am hoping we won’t have another Xmas/winter wedding. Barbara’s was so lovely and unique.

BertieBotts · 23/02/2022 23:37

No, Trixie will want to get married in May or something like that I reckon. Christmas proposal, spring marriage. Maybe she'll get up the duff to hurry it up a bit.

MangyInseam · 24/02/2022 01:31

I really can't see Trixi with Tom. I think they'd have very different views on a lot of things.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/02/2022 07:45

I don't think Trixie is shallow. She has some quite radical views about medicine/midwifery practice, and isn't afraid to voice them! Don't you think she has a 'veneer' that is all to do with her upbringing and possibly being quite fragile emotionally?

I think 'bigging up' Matthew with some medical knowledge is all part of a plan to make him a more attractive love interest option to Trixie.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/02/2022 09:23

On the subject of Sister MJ and her 'woo' ways, in the very first episode (when she opens the door to Jenny) she is talking about the astrological alignment of planets. I reckon she's supposed to exemplify a woman of the world in the polymath sense. Despite her religious convictions, she is very open and amenable to 'alternative' approaches to life, love and the universe.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/02/2022 09:31

She's a 'blue-stocking' really.
