I just saw that on Twitter. That tweet and the comments were far more moving than the actual show.😢

@AtlasPine

A friend of mine lived in London as a child. His older sister died before he was born in the fifties at 3 - a tragic accident. They had no money as a family and she was buried in someone else’s grave, alongside the child from a wealthier family who had paid for a plot and a gravestone for their child.

My friend managed to find his sister’s resting place some years ago through finding the grave of the wealthier child - which gave his mother great comfort before her own death. She has never known where her daughter was buried. I don’t know if that was commonly done, but strangely comforting that neither child was buried on their own.

That is so sad, and so beautiful that the mother did finally get that comfort.

I thought that the choice of Roberta/Bobbie as a character name in these two episodes may have been a tribute to Jenny Agutter, who was leaving the show, her character having been unable to stop a train crash this time. A bit of a stretch maybe!

I genuinely thought she was going to lose her life so her recovery was a welcome twist.

Carol’s storyline was very well done. It might have been harder hitting had we met the tea lady before last week, but it was still brilliant. What a talented young actress.

Enjoyed the Youth Hostel comment. Phyllis is such a key character. Great comic timing.

I thought it was a strong final ep. Interesting that the McGann family experiences had been written in. The Carol story felt authentic and realistic so I am not surprised it was based on Mrs McGann’s terrible experience of loss.

@Pink98

Dementia was never confirmed.

Very interesting.

I wonder what disaster he was in.

PriamFarrl · 20/02/2022 23:42

It seems he was at Hillsborough.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 20/02/2022 23:55

So glad to see Nurse Crane back doing what Nurse Crane does best. Her utter lack of any emotion on finding Cyril half out of bed in her room Grin

MangyInseam · 21/02/2022 00:07

@Pink98

What I never understand is that Sister Monica Joan has been suffering dementia for over a decade yet it’s never progressed and aside from a few quirks she’s sharp as a tack. It’s a misrepresentation of the disease
I'm not convinced she really has dementia. I think she's just odd.
MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/02/2022 00:47

nurse crane came back and all was right in the world Grin
although actually there was less social distancing in the final photograph

that was a quick series

RCBadger · 21/02/2022 02:57

Regarding Max "Tim Turner" MacMillan: Apparently, he auditioned for the show originally as a musician because they needed a kid who could play a musical instrument. It was only supposed to be for one show, but his resemblance to Stephen McGann was noted and Tim became a recurring character.

OneSwallow · 21/02/2022 04:05

Re Sister Monica and UTIs .. apparently if an elderly person has a bad UTI there is a link to dementia . Someone I know with an elderly husband experienced this. Her husband was in hospital with a UTI. She was told that within a year he would have dementia by the staff. It turned out to be the case. I didn’t know this .
I do think Sister Monica is supposed to have dementia. It seems to have conveniently been forgotten about.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/02/2022 06:39

In an early series Sr Bernadette says to St Patrick that they aren't sure if she does have dementia or is just eccentric. St Patrick says that if she's bought home in her nightie by the police, then she's got it.

@TinselAngel

Do the paraffin and the fireworks were red herrings.
Yes. I definitely thought these would play a part. It very much seems like they switched direction during filming.
Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/02/2022 07:54

I think the fireworks was just to tell us it was November... (isn't it usually one episode a month sort of thing?)

GruffaloSolja · 21/02/2022 07:58

I seriously thought Tim was going to save the day after I saw that promo shot of him in the white coat. But instead his dad was telling him how to administer Aspirin!

seperatedmum · 21/02/2022 08:08

I must say I disagree that 'Cyril' is acted terribly as said down thread I just see him as a very earnest character hanging on his wife's every word who doesn't have a bad temper so even when frustrated doesn't go too far, you can't separate his faith from his character either. I find those "summary speeches" they all do really a bit much but that doesn't mean he's a bad actor IMO

Clawdy · 21/02/2022 08:14

I think Cyril is a good actor, too. Not easy playing a rather saintly character, and making him likeable, but it works. And that beautiful smile!

seperatedmum · 21/02/2022 08:26

Agreed with all of that clawdy

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/02/2022 08:30

I've realised it's the music that plays when Lucille and Cyril are together that heightens the annoyance

lazymum99 · 21/02/2022 08:56

They were listening to Val Doonican. Did young people really listen to him. I thought he appealed to the grannies

Clawdy · 21/02/2022 09:01

Yes, it should have been Bob Lind’s version of Elusive Butterfly!

Toddlerteaplease · 21/02/2022 09:12

St Patrick miss diagnosed sr julienne though. Grin

Well how anti-climatic.

Yes to whoever said about Barbra’s death. I sobbed buckets.

Also cried at Sister Evangelina’s funeral where everyone wanted to contribute something

Taswama · 21/02/2022 09:21

To be fair, he was concussed himself!

Puffalicious · 21/02/2022 09:32

Gosh, Cyril and Lucille are insufferable. Would young people really be so boring and earnest?
