Wow. I've never filled a thread before!

It would have been better had one of the nuns said to him something like ‘we couldn’t possibly see you travelling home now after this. Please take the spare room’.
Or if he had been on the sofa with a blanket. A man, a single man at that, in a nun’s room is odd and wrong.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/02/2022 23:33

I supposed it was so he could weasel his way into the photo at the end.

And here’s me thinking they needed his teeth for lighting…

kazzaD66 · 22/02/2022 10:03

I bloody love Blood Brothers elderflower
Saw it three times, including with Stephen McGann.

RachelGreeneGreep · 22/02/2022 10:07

@Fanacapan

I’m a bit slow, I’ve only just clicked Stephen McGann is married to Heidi Thomas! This explains soooo much! 🤣
Lol. It's why the doc was never in danger of dying and will live forever! Grin

That’s a good point. To which, an actual gentleman (one with manners, not money) would have said “oh no, sister. I couldn’t possibly give you more work. You must be exhausted. I’ll be perfectly fine in a taxi.” Can you imagine the state of the pillowcase next day with all that hair grease?

And here’s me thinking they needed his teeth for lighting

Perfect!

The character is sooooo heavy handed as “the perfect husband for poor Trixie”. No subtlety at all.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/02/2022 10:29

To be fair to him... would he have able to find a taxi in the early hours of the morning in Poplar? Did the taxis have radios and a central office then?

TheBestofTimesTheWorstofTimes · 22/02/2022 10:36

His stupid head bandage - DCs said she looked like Buzz Lightyear. Then he said a comment about feeling like a spaceman or something Grin was fitting!

Not sure about that - but sure.y they must have? Or he could have just gone back to his own car and driven home. Idoubt he got the bus that morning.

Given that head wounds bleed a lot, and his collar was only lightly stained, it can’t have been a very big wound or merit such voluminous bandaging.

Did anyone else notice that they left Dr Turner's wedding ring on once his arm was in a cast? Surely when an arm is broken the fingers swell so much they take all jewellery off early on? His fingers weren't even remotely puffy!!

Carry on Cabby was from 1963 and I think they had radios.

Yup, I mentioned it upthread.

I know Stephen McGann is committed to his role but I think actually breaking his arm is a bit too method, even for him
😄.

No, I know what you mean - there could have been a bit more attention to detail.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/02/2022 12:01

Maybe Dr Turner's wedding ring left on was intentional (to reinforce the love for Mrs T.)? I am sure they pay to have HCPs on set during filming, - as advisors - so a very basic 'care' mistake to overlook.

jay55 · 22/02/2022 12:41

Late watching this week. Very disappointed Dr mansplain didn't die or at least have amnesia from the bump on the head.

Disappointing that the crash in the end changed nothing.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 22/02/2022 13:18

Mathew would have definitely driven himself home, he has a young son to look after for a start!

The YMCA comment made me chortle though.

MollyButton · 22/02/2022 13:21

The location as given is exactly where my Grandparents came from!

No, you don’t get a choice when you break your arm - rings come off. Because if you leave them on, the resultant swelling can cut off blood supply. It’s very, very basic. Nobody with basic medical knowledge would let that slip past them.
SheldonesqueTheBstard · 22/02/2022 13:25

Shelagh nipped out and bought a bigger ring.

Because she is that perfect.

and wanted to make sure no nurses went a-sniffing for a doctor beau

Well, his son was alone all evening already, so presumably has a live in nanny. Not that he was seen to contact his home and explain what had happened. Which is very rude and inconsiderate. It’s not like he was indispensable at Nonnatus house. I guess we were supposed to think how wonderful he was, staying to help and then staying over.
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/02/2022 13:37

It would be good to have a bit of 'trouble in paradise' between the Turners. They are way too perfect for my liking.

AppleKatie · 22/02/2022 13:57

When I broke my wrist the HCPs tried to cut my rings off (swelling wouldn’t allow them to slip). I stopped them and asked if it was really necessary. They said not at the moment as not affecting blood flow and would I prefer to watch and wait?

That’s what I opted for- and it was fine. So if I can manage that I can well believe Dr T kept his ring on in the 60s.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/02/2022 14:10

So if I can manage that I can well believe Dr T kept his ring on in the 60s. Hmmm, I'm sure just about that. I'd imagine that everything was very much done 'by the book' in those days. No flexibility or practitioner discretion allowed.

HelloKeith · 22/02/2022 15:27

That was brilliant Grin We watched it - me, Dh , DD15 and DS12 - knowing it was going to be utterly farcical and I think that improved it no end. Lots of is she dead? Oh no she isn't! DD got upset when Sister Julienne took off her wimple, DH told her it didn't matter "she's not the Mandalorian." I wanted Sister Monica Joan to take the glass out of the church lady's eye. Mainly I wanted Dr Turner to die, but his recovery from concussion as soon as he had his ridiculous bandage on was a miracle. And then Sister Julienne was going to be an invalid and then she was perfectly fine two seconds later.

It's definitely jumped way past the shark.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 22/02/2022 15:59

But they jumped all the way out to Canvey Island to take it back to open water,

Give them that.
