I can't wait. Series 1 was absolutely delightful - I'm so looking forward to it and I seem to have developped a crush on Samuel West.

@SophieHatterPendragon

I love this new cast / series. I remember watching the old ones with my mum so holds a special place in my childhood heart but I really enjoy these. I don’t mind the changes to mrs hall but however much I love tricky woo I wish they’d not got a new actress in I much preferred Diana Riggs depiction

I had all the books and audiobooks as a child they got me through some lonely night and I really wanted to be a vet until I realised it was no longer the same and didn’t seem as appealing to be a modern vet

Yes same here.

Carol Drinkwater would be good

Maireas · 17/10/2021 09:38

What lovely, gentle viewing. That cricket match was a delight. I loved Tricky Woo's assignation with his girlfriend at the end!

FlatteredFool · 20/10/2021 20:55

It's the last episode tomorrow!!! Sad Will there be a Christmas special do you think? I know they have says there'll be more seasons but sad times.

GCAcademic · 20/10/2021 21:02

Last episode already! Nooooo. It’s only just started! 😢

I’m sure there will be a Christmas special, though. Surely?

FlatteredFool · 20/10/2021 21:21

Dd is not happy. It's our weekly treat on a Friday night as I record it.

Notonthestairs · 21/10/2021 06:37

Oh I was expecting this series to run until Christmas! That was short and sweet!

Maireas · 21/10/2021 16:39

Too short! I hope there's a Christmas special.

JaneJeffer · 21/10/2021 21:51

Helen is gorgeous in red.

JaneJeffer · 21/10/2021 21:59

Yes! Back at Christmas!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 21/10/2021 22:06

Will it be the wedding at Christmas?

I cried when his mum cried on the bus at the end, it's so bittersweet when your children grow up 😢

Have loved the series.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 21/10/2021 22:07

What year are they in? Is war going to break out son?

Ginger1982 · 21/10/2021 22:12

@Girliefriendlikespuppies

I reckon it might hit in series 3. They're in 1938 at the moment.
JaneJeffer · 21/10/2021 22:19

"It'll always be your home" got me Sad

Notonthestairs · 21/10/2021 22:23

That was a lovely episode. I'm afraid I had multiple weepy moments Blush
Very pleased there is a Christmas episode.

FlatteredFool · 21/10/2021 22:31

I think there's something in my eye

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 21/10/2021 22:57

I don't remember war being featured much in the other series, would Tristan get called up? And James I suppose?

Maireas · 21/10/2021 22:58

Yes, they served in the RAF. James was discharged on health grounds.

Bloodypunkrockers · 22/10/2021 00:40

All I can say is

Awwwwwe

Loved it

Ginger1982 · 22/10/2021 07:00

I feel like not much happened this series, apart from James and Helen. Would have liked more on Mrs Hall's son and proper romance for Siegfried (ie with Mrs Hall!)

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/10/2021 07:23

As vets they were not conscripted, they were vital to the war effort as more food had to be produced at home. James volunteered for the RAF and there are anecdotes about it in one of the books. He never saw action, as far as I can recall, and eventually chose to go back to being a vet.
CaptainMyCaptain · 22/10/2021 07:25

Actually, @maireas is right, he left on health grounds. He definitely had a choice of whether to join up, though, being in a reserved occupation.

Clawdy · 23/10/2021 08:24

It was a lovely closing episode, looking forward to the Christmas special, hopefully there will be one. Funny to see Helen's little sister is now taller than her!

diddl · 23/10/2021 09:02

I do love Tony Pitts as Helen's dad.

diddl · 23/10/2021 09:22

"Will it be the wedding at Christmas?"

It was Helen & Hugh last Christmas wasn't it?

Maireas · 23/10/2021 09:23

Helen's dad is great, just right. I'm glad there was a good outcome for Mrs Daulby.
It was a lovely episode, as pp say, bittersweet.
Love and loss, happiness and yet war on the horizon.
Saying goodbye to your grown up children is very hard, it just seems to go so quickly.
