Changing Rooms tonight. Anyone watching?

I’m so excited to see the return of Changing Rooms tonight on Channel 4. I used to love watching the show in the ‘90s with my mum when I lived at home. I remember doing some very dodgy stencilling in my mum’s front room after being inspired by a makeover!

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen will in it so there should be some extreme makeovers. Will anyone else be watching?

@furries - Pacers!

@amillionmenonmars

I bet Dulux are not happy. They used the blue paint then covered it up in lino. This really isn't a great showcase for Dulux.
I think that may have been because Teresa was getting upset at how bright and bold the blue paint was and crying over it?!?
Meredusoleil · 25/08/2021 21:34

Did LLB not use the spray painted based after all? I didn't see them in the finished room 🤔

Meredusoleil · 25/08/2021 21:35

VASES that should say 🤦🏻‍♀️

Crockof · 25/08/2021 21:49

I'm sorry but I love this more than anything in TV at the moment, kids and I find it hysterical, how can the neighbours live with themselves, LLB room is OK, the other looks like Parma violet and love hearts bastard child.

EastWestWhosBest · 25/08/2021 22:23

Christ they were both so bad.

In LLB’s room, where was the TV?

amillionmenonmars · 25/08/2021 22:23

Someone crying over a Dulux colour is not great advertising!

Yes I wondered that too! It's like they can't include a TV as it would ruin the 'design' 🙄
EastWestWhosBest · 25/08/2021 22:58

They have to pretend that people don’t watch tv, even though they are on a tv show.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 25/08/2021 23:09

Well, that was another hugely irritating show. LLB - irritating. Anna - irritating. Matchy-untucked-shirt-designers - irritating.

The black and gold room - not too bad, just too fussy. I liked the ceiling art but the light fitting spoiled it. Didn't like the fake concrete wall panels (sorry Tibby) or the black curtains. Or the strange wardrobe looking units. But I liked the room layout and the gold sofas. The mirror / fireplace was OK. You could tweak it pretty easily.

The ice cream parlour - words fail me. The room divider was good, the colours and the fake lino stuff were bloody awful, especially going over the sofa with it, imagine sitting on that in shorts, ewww. Didn't like the table either but it might have been ok in a plainer room.

They are taking the piss out of the homeowners.

WeAreTheHeroes · 25/08/2021 23:39

I may be wrong, but I thought the woman who's room was destroyed by those two muppets painted lots of different colours was being positive so as not to upset her friend.

Tonight's episode was much more the CR of old. I liked LLB's room. It was always like that where one design worked better than the other. I do wish they'd stop painting ceilings anything other than a solid, light colour though.
I'm

Do they get to keep their old furniture? Imagine your comfortable, decent condition sofa being chucked out and replaced with that plastic monstrosity! The long voile curtains and clashing greens were awful too. I’d love to see their own homes (the duo) as I simply do not believe they think what they’re doing is nice.

Furries · 26/08/2021 01:43

@Chewbecca - that’s them, thank you! And slightly ironic that someone with “chew” in their name would be the one to tell me 🤣

That's what I thought too - that Maria was not crying happy tears but was trying to put on a brave front for Teresa who blurted out her fears in Italian anyway! The husbands were both good at placating their wives throughout imho.

I wondered this too. I sometimes think there's nothing much wrong with the rooms to start with and why would they want to go on this show? I bet last night's couples regretted it though 🤦🏻‍♀️

Me too. There's a horrible feeling that they're making fun of the whole thing. Like a drunken joke - let's apply for this and see how many ridiculous paint colours we can get away with - 2 points for lime green!
Noone could think that looked good.

I wondered that. George Clark also gets rid of TVs. They just don't find them aesthetically pleasing I suppose.
Mooserp · 26/08/2021 09:44

I was imagining what mess would be caused by taking that lino off the wall

Duetorain · 26/08/2021 10:58

I wonder if participants get any amount/help to redecorate anything they don’t like.

EastWestWhosBest · 26/08/2021 12:45

I would sooner see a program where a designer goes to someone’s house and they tell them what they don’t like about the room. The designer then suggests some easy/cheap/quick fixes, like moving the sofa/changing the curtains/changing the lighting; stuff that we could all use at home. Kind of like Love It or List It but on a smaller scale.

But that wouldn’t make as good telly as a couple of no marks painting someone’s house stupid colours.

DH also gets upset about speaker placement in designs.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 26/08/2021 13:32

I would sooner see a tv programme that doesn’t employ a pair smutty twits who haven’t progressed past poster paints.

I’d happily have LLB have a shot at my room. I would let that pair loose on my toenails.

If they spent as much time listening to the squeaks of horror as they do on making their quiffs rigid, I daresay the room would be more acceptable to the human eye.

Oozing with colour and charm it was not. Unless one things there is something charming about pus or boils.

Fine if that is your bag.

And at least the marmoleum is wipe clean.

Which is fine if you ever need to wipe up pus or boil detritus. Or tears.

I hope they go back at the end of the series to see if anyone kept their room, changed it completely or fiddled with it.

I’d be on the Dulux magnolia like a Labrador on chips.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 26/08/2021 13:35

Things should be thinks.

Mi dispiace.

SaskiaRembrandt · 26/08/2021 14:14

I watched the first episode, it was awful and t the rooms looked dreadful. It none of the charm of the original, the wall of hair made me think of Ed Gein, and LLB has gone from being delightfully eccentric to downright creepy. And the other designers seemed like very beige people who wear wacky clothes and use double entendres in an attempt to appear interesting. I bet they describe themselves as wacky.

Mooserp · 26/08/2021 14:17

Didn't they wear overalls in the original series? It always makes me uncomfortable watching people decorating in 'nice' clothes.

Crockof · 26/08/2021 14:39

Grin agree, so was very relieved they weren't wearing nice clothes, yet again one of the designers appears to have come straight from his bed.
