Love the 2 main actors but thought the storyline in the end was far fetched.
Will try and find series 1!

Piggywaspushed · 23/08/2021 08:28

I thought it was ridiculous and the actual final terrorist plan... eh??? How was that meant to trump Josefvarosz?

Ridiculous. I can tolerate ridiculous and entertaining , but this was dull and millions of plotholes.

charliebear78 · 23/08/2021 08:42

I binged..I seems like so long ago now...
To be honest I can't remember how it ended..
I did find it boring and was disappointed because I enjoyed the missing series so much and liked the first two baptiste.
Ah well!

ShuddaBeenMe · 23/08/2021 09:47

It was so boring DH refused to watch last nights. He said it was far fetched with ridiculous story lines. I couldn't disagree

Disappointing as it started so well.

Piggywaspushed · 23/08/2021 09:58

Yeah, my DH sat and read the paper during it ! Which was very annoying.

lazymum99 · 23/08/2021 10:14

I binged so finished ages ago and I cannot remember anything further than when the son escaped when left with her.
I adore Fiona Shaw but this was not a good enough drama for her

Buggerthebotox · 23/08/2021 16:32

I lost the plot (quite literally) at some point midway through the series. No idea what the ending was supposed to be about. How did the son get to the hospital? How did Julien survive? Did whatsisname die?

Not sure I really care. Nice to see Julien back in the saddle looking spruce with GD and wifey.

Piggywaspushed · 23/08/2021 17:53

Is whathisname whathisname? If so, we saw him in a prison cell...

It seems whatsherface was going to get away with whatever she was up to as well.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/08/2021 23:14

Ok. I assumed both would die

Seems neither did

How did they get rescued from middle of nowhere

How did Baptist with a limp abs double the age , manage to catch Andrea up in the wood

How could walloping and killing will be bigger and better then what originally happened :(

And so it starts again as victor (think was him with black eye at end) puts on the mask and continue the work that was started

And all this happened to her family as Laura for killed by freak accident by druggie immigrant so the sims decide to get justice

It was a bit odd. Didn’t pan out quite how I had hoped. A bit of good and a bit of bad.
On the plus side, I do love Tchéky Karyo and the character of Baptiste. I like the settings in different European countries.
On the downside: I wish they had explored/portrayed better why the two sons (super-privileged sons of a senior diplomat) had become radicalised so quickly and so extremely. That was all a bit vague.
Fiona Shaw reverted to her own accent a few times, particularly when raising her voice, which is understandable but a bit distracting when she was cast as a British diplomat.
And I wish they had delved more into the conflict that a mother would feel when confronted with these events. To have your two sons both turn out as terrorists who were effectively responsible for the murder of their father - I’d expect the acceptance she arrived at to be a lot longer coming.

Gothichouse40 · 24/08/2021 00:08

Very disappointing, especially when previous series and The Missing had been so good. Just as well it's the last series, I would not have watched another. Pity, very good actors but the story was ridiculous and too drawn out.

TerrificTeapot · 24/08/2021 05:39

I love Julien Baptiste. Bring on season 3!
But what was the point of the infertility story line?

AllTheSunshine · 24/08/2021 06:11

Fiona Shaw was fab. Karyo's acting was dreadful and the script was clunky and full of holes. I kept wanting it to improve but it didn't.Sad

Piggywaspushed · 24/08/2021 07:20

I think the infertility plotline was to a) flesh out her character (didn't work) and b) was the motif of parenting and lost children. All the adult characters had lost a child/never had one / were children who lost parents (Sofia). However, I think the fertility thing unfortunately seemed an attempt to humanise Kamilla, and she was a monster.

Things will have changed a lot since I visited Hungary when it was still Communist but there did seem to be an awful lot of fluent English speakers.

Another plothole : how did Emma (was that even her name?) get out of the car and into her wheelchair at the end to go to Will?? Don't actors ever say :'wait.... how did my charcater do that?'

AncientandFabulous · 24/08/2021 08:32

It was so far fetched wasn’t it? We decided to just suspend reality & go with it!

TerrificTeapot · 24/08/2021 13:22

@Piggywaspushed you must be right! What a woosh moment.🤦‍♀️ I didn't think of that at all.
I wondered if her miscarriages had helped in her radicalisation somehow.

I liked the premise of a family being ripped apart by an untimely death. I could see how the boys could got in over their heads. I liked fiona Shaw. My favourite moment was the skateboard bashing. Oh dear I said that out loud.
But it is true that something didn't work overall. Too many bits of the story are missing.

Piggywaspushed · 24/08/2021 14:45

I think you're OK : I think we all liked the skateboard best Grin

Edmontine · 24/08/2021 16:03

Well, that wasn’t nearly as bad as you all made me think. Though the constant relentless battering of people who don’t die stretches credulity and patience. Bit lazy.

Glad to have got to the end. But I hope nothing else involves such a depressing story this year.

Roll on the next season of The Circle!

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/08/2021 16:07

I said great skateboard wacking 😂

Wasn’t she in the wheelchair in the woods with Baptist when he caught sight of Andre and chased bom

OP posts:
Buggerthebotox · 24/08/2021 16:30

I thought she was already in the wheelchair too. I thought Julien was goner though, after that fight.

Disappointing overall, I thought, although I liked the idea of revenge for the daughter's murder. Oh well.

Anyone know what's in the Sunday Night slot for Autumn?

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/08/2021 16:33
