Anyone else watching? More plot holes than a colander. Could be such a good story, but the writing is so lazy. Yet another Kay Mellor drama featuring Gaynor Faye.

Fat Friends and Band of Gold were great

Bloody hell... I didn't realise she wrote Band of Gold!

They were both good

Would love to see fat friends again

Mammyloveswine · 05/04/2021 23:06

I enjoyed it!
Mind Neil morrisey hasn't half aged! Barely recognised him!

Mammyloveswine · 05/04/2021 23:06

Also loved fat friends!

Cherrypie32 · 06/04/2021 21:48

Caught up on ep 1 tonight and couldn’t face 2. Left 13yo DS downstairs watching it, so yes, teen drama that’s managed to drag him away from the PS!

Concestor · 06/04/2021 22:08

Oh gosh it's just getting worse! Mysterious bloke following them all in Monaco, the back story of prostitution, the now dodgy fiancee, the ridiculously incompetent lottery woman and the unbelievably absent police.
I'm not sure I can watch another four episodes.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 06/04/2021 22:25

It has crossed my mind that the entire premise of this series was to give KM's family a holiday in Monaco.

It's shocking isn't it. The acting is crap and the plot line is awful but I want to watch to see what happens. What is wrong with me!!

ChildOfFriday · 06/04/2021 22:35

I found this one very slow. One of the things I really liked about The Syndicate was that each episode focused on one character and you saw the same events happening from different people's points of view, or things that didn't quite make sense in a previous episode were explained in a later one from someone else's perspective. I hope that isn't gone. I know you could argue that the first episode focused on Keeley and in this one we found out a lot more about Colette, but it doesn't feel the same as in the earlier series.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 06/04/2021 22:53

I tried to find out when this was filmed - I'm assuming last summer/autumn as Monte Carlo seemed pretty empty and found out KM originally set it in Yorkshire and Las Vegas.

The Collete back story could have been quite good but they just rushed through it with a 5 min flash back.

LadyEloise · 07/04/2021 09:23

I taped the series but having watched half of the first episode I decided it wasn't for me so have deleted it.
Life's too short.

zeromango · 07/04/2021 12:42

I will persevere with it but it just gets worse doesn't it Grin

Laburnam · 07/04/2021 13:10

More story line holes then a sieve

MoonCatcher · 07/04/2021 15:12

I'd like to think that Neil Morrissey accepted this as a bit of a diversion from proper acting roles (LoD, Unforgotten) and is playing the role up for fun.
How would he have got the dog to Vegas?
I assume the money ex gave to pregnant woman was the ransome money from the dog-napping.
Why am I even watching it, its nonsense 🙅‍♀️

longtompot · 07/04/2021 15:26

My ed and I watched this at the weekend. Really slow start which did get a bit better by the end. It was still dull and unbelievable though.
Neither of us wanted to watch it last night, but will watch at the weekend again. It's far from how great the original series were, I think I only watched the first two as I don't remember the hotel one.
I think the worst actor was Joe Suggs. Could he be any more wooden?! NM was NM as usual, though not seen Line of Duty, but will be starting that from the beginning soon, so will be interesting to see him as someone else.

aretherereally4Hs · 07/04/2021 17:08

I think I may just watch the final episode to see what happens. I'm guessing the dog gets taken and they end up working together to get the dog back and then Neil M gives them the money back

GloomyWaters · 08/04/2021 00:53

Boring episode again...not botherinh next week obvs dog gets kidnapped

PrincessScarlett · 08/04/2021 08:41

Agree with all the comments. Very lazy writing, ludicrous plot holes, it's just not good to watch when you know the obvious thing to do is go to the police and lottery company rather than chasing NM around Monaco when none of them have any money.

I liked Gaynor Faye in Emmerdale but she's dreadful whenever she's in one of her mum's dramas.

cosmopolitanplease · 08/04/2021 09:28

I agree with all the criticism above. It's like bloody Dramarama or something! Bad acting, plot holes, people saying and doing stuff that nobody would say or do. It's actually shocking that this comes from the same person who created Band of Gold. I wouldn't keep watching but I've got dh into it now (he's much less discerning than meGrin).

The Colette flashback was laughable, it reminded me of when Alan Partridge imagines himself as a ladyboy. Also, I wasn't paying full attention as I had resorted to my phone by this point so I may be mistaken, but the name changing stuff didn't make any sense? She was called Colette in the brothel flashback and was known as Colette to her kennel colleagues, but apparently she changed her name to escape her past? But she only changed it on her passport and didn't tell anyone, what's the point of that? And why does a prostitution conviction mean you can't go to Monte Carlo? Hmm

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2021 11:56

Day behind. Just watching now

Haven’t read replies since I saved before

But I’m still enjoying

Iamthewombat · 08/04/2021 17:38

It is actually getting worse. Astonishing.

AS IF the lottery company would allow that bumbling fool woman to investigate a potential theft of £27m !!!!

Iamthewombat · 08/04/2021 17:55

Has Kay Mellor deliberately written thick characters?

midsomermurderess · 08/04/2021 18:44

The National Lottery could be forgiven for being uneasy about this. The whole set up doesn't engender confidence in it.

Snowfalling · 08/04/2021 22:37

Is this suitable for children of say 10? Can anyone tell me?
