I would love to know how that pie shop makes enough money to keep a family of 24. They haven't always had TV deals and endorsements.

SquirtleSquad · 24/02/2021 08:05

They only claim child benefit in terms of benefits apparently which for their eligible children is about £190 a week so that's almost £10k a year. Things were different, I'd assume, before the benefits cap but who knows!

butterpuffed · 24/02/2021 08:06

They seem to take everything in their stride....all those little ones in the hot tub ! It's bad enough when you have to get more than one child dressed and hair dried. I guess the older ones help but even so !!

Exhausteddog · 24/02/2021 08:07

Even in the first programme years ago, they said Sue got a new pram for each baby which I thought was quite an expense to do 15 times (and they didnt have youtube etc then.)

Anne1958 · 24/02/2021 09:13

Can't work out what the secret is with their relationship though? Do share

There is no secret - and what people are alluding to is that Sue was 13 when she became pregnant for the first time and her then boyfriend, now husband, was 17/18.

Personally I’m glad the new show is on channel 5 what with the current series C4 is running on paedophillia and the online grooming of youngsters.

I don’t understand why we’re not allowed to mention this on mumsnet? This isn’t speculation, it’s factually true and easily verified!

The benefits cap only applies to families who don't work, UC/ tax credits would still top up wages for all of the eligible kids born before 2018. They could be raking in a small fortune there if their only income was the bakery but it looks like they also earn a lot from TV/ online work so might not be eligible because their income is too high.
Papergirl1968 · 24/02/2021 11:19

I read bits of that tattle thread. Blimey, posters really have it in for them on there. The names they (the posters) called some of the children were awful.

What show is that?

ChessieFL · 24/02/2021 11:47

I was surprised when I looked for a thread yesterday morning and couldn’t find one. Makes sense if it was deleted.

I haven’t watched any previous programmes but I’m aware from threads on here of their general lifestyle.

I thought Sue looks great given how tiring her life must be! I know she will have been made up for the cameras but even so - I look much more knackered and I only have one child!

Limer · 24/02/2021 18:16

Just watched the first episode. How things have changed since the C4 days! Noel and Sue are now both reading to the younger kids! In the early series they never read to them, made a point of saying reading was the school's job. And put the kids to bed then took their bedroom door handles off, so the kids couldn't wander around at night.

That bakery does not sustain a family that size. They must get thousands in tax credits.

I also couldn't fathom why the bakery had to close in the first lockdown? As a food supplier it could have stayed open. Maybe they couldn't get their raw materials?

And all the hand-wringing about having zero income - Noel is self-employed, he would have claimed furlough for his lost earnings and for his daughter employee Chloe.

butterpuffed · 24/02/2021 18:31

Apparently it closed as Noel had coronavirus.

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 24/02/2021 18:39

Can someone pm the family secret not to be discussed please. Its driving me mad!!

I don’t want it mentioned again as the thread will be pulled

And yes he would have got seiss but it’s 80 of nett profits - so he would have lost hundreds /thousands a week

Apparently it closed as Noel had coronavirus.
Noel didn’t get Coronavirus until November/December time so that definitely wasn’t the reason why the bakery closed in Lockdown 1.

I didn’t understand why they pretended that the online pies was a new thing. They’ve been doing that for years. It’s all tall stories with this family.

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 24/02/2021 19:17

@Blondeshavemorefun

I think I may have worked it out. Did try to find it but so many posts deleted which must contain the detail

purpleme12 · 24/02/2021 19:21

There's no deleted posts on this thread

The 'secret' is further up on this page if you scroll up

EternalOptimist7 · 24/02/2021 19:21

I enjoyed the programme & Sue & Noel come across as decent people but I don’t agree with spending that amount on one child’s birthday presents.

Absolutely
IHaveBrilloHair · 24/02/2021 21:30

They wouldn't know the truth if it smacked them in the face.
The show the other night was all advertising in the form of product placement.

purpleme12 · 24/02/2021 23:10

I've never had strong feelings about them (apart from the fact that I think it's too many children!)
But it does kind of make me suspicious how vastly different they're coming across on this programme than on the one on channel 4
I do have a vague recollection of them saying they sell the pies online in the past but I'm not entirely sure

Exhausteddog · 24/02/2021 23:53

I'm pretty sure the pue shop has been online since about 2015.
I think they used Chloes instagram and social media profile to drive more traffic to the site.maybe they did most of their orders in real life and not many people used the website before?

CovidCrow · 24/02/2021 23:56

The bedtime story bit really jumped out at me as being so different to previous programmes, definitely a rebrand for chl 5.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 25/02/2021 00:09

I think they came across really well and she looks amazing considering how much her body has been put through!

I sat and thought my god imagine home schooling the past year with all the kids!

GuessWhosBackBackAgain · 25/02/2021 00:51

Probably missing the point of the thread but I find it bizarre that all the girls look exactly like the mum. None of them look like the dad!
