Line of Duty series 6 - March 2021

Anybody know when it starts? All I've found is this Radio Times article saying it will start before the end of March this year. www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/line-of-duty-season-six-release-date/ Kelly Macdonald is due to guest star.

Ah yes - pointy face... I love a good detective show. I didn’t quite clock this was another in a series and was thinking ‘she (the Scottish one) really looks familiar... Maybe she was in Taggart...?’

In my defence... I tend to only half pay attention, and have realised that I’m not always looking at the screen. I have the attention span of a gnat.

When Kate spoke to the chis handler, she made a point of calling him Sarge. When jo was in talking to her gaffer, Kate was on the phone. She said ‘how do you spell that?’ And then ‘thanks for getting back to me sarge’ (or words to that effect). Did anyone else think the handler changed his mind and gave her the name or have I got it wrong? Please don’t be a bent bastard Kate!

Kate said the CHIS was called "alice roldroyd" or at least that's what it sounded like so entirely possible that she would want that spelled.

I've not heard anyone else comment on the whole conversation between Jo and Buckells...

After Jo closes the door and says that she needs the ID of the CHIS the camera moves to outside the office where Kate and Farida are sitting (Kate still on the phone). In the background you can hear Jo saying "We have a job to do", Buckells replies but I can't make out what he says and Jo says "Fuck the handler and Fuck the CHIS" before walking out the office.

I find I have to REALLY concentrate on LOD otherwise I have no clue what’s going on.
Even then it can be very confusing!

It was Jo that requested her boss sign off the paperwork for the lower level surveillance- Directed surveillance authority. Kate said the gap in surveillance was due to the fact it should have been intrusive authority, and Jo let her boss take the blame for ‘messing up the paperwork’

I also suspect this is very relevant (A brillant spot GemmaFoster).

Jo definitely asked Buckells to sign off on Directed Surveillance in the opening scene. Kate later says they stood down for 3 hours because they needed Intrusive Authority to use high power lenses. Kate says "looks like the Super (buckells) messed up the paperwork" and Jo did not correct her.

Indeed the CHIS was a man, and referred throughout as he/him/his and by Buckells as "rent boy". The name Kate says, sounds very much like Alice though. It may be me mishearing, but in anyway, would fit in with Kate asking the "sarge" to spell it. If indeed this is a clue...

Ah, Alistair Oldroyd. That makes sense. Saying that name in a Scottish accent sounds completely different to what Kate said lol

In series 4, Roz Huntley made a big thing of not referring to the murdered women as prostitutes, which Buckells immediately did when he arrived and took over. Talking about rent boys is more of the same, innit, but feels like a call back to that. He's Old School, and you might reasonably expect Jo to be feeling frustrated working for him.

Re the number of episodes thing for Terry, I noticed that and wondered if that means he won’t be in any more, but then I wasn’t sure what happens when a new series is aired - have they already got the info for the whole series? Or are they just saying he’s in one episode of s6 because that’s all that’s been on? I’m not sure how it works (and didn’t want to investigate further in case of spoilers 😂)

Rewatched the episode yesterday and have now seen that she uses a key to lock the door on the inside. I think I was too shocked about the actual bolts to take it in properly the first time. So she could be holding someone in there, but then she’d only need the locks, not the bolts as well as they can definitely be opened from the inside.

I am still sure she’s keeping someone out!

And I am sure Ryan is going to make an appearance. I hope he calls someone a Bent Bastard during the series too!!

I checked another character to see if it gave more episodes (ie the ones that hadn't been shown (it did) and foi d out something a little odd but can't post it here in case it's a weird potential spoiler

Sarah Millican was on it with an interesting theory- the actress playing Gail Vella is well known and to hire her for basically a photoshoot (rather than any acting) seems odd. Maybe she is being kept in Jo's flat and isn't dead and will turn up later?!
Also, sidebar, (Dot Cottan in real life) Craig Parkinson's recently ex wife is the bent (ish) copper in Unforgotten who rides the bike!

I watched it yesterday as a way of getting me through the week until the next episode!

I was surprised at how different Craig's voice sometimes was to Dot's!

There’s sometimes extensive flashbacks at the end of the series, eg we saw a lot of flashbacks at the end of series 2 to explain Lindsay’s motivation. And because GV was a TV journalist we may well see our heroes watching a lot of old video footage showing her as well.
