Thurs at 9 Richard returns
Can we figure out how they are going to pull this off given that he had an ice pick in his chest when we last saw himGrin
My guess. It was stated and he has been undercover for the last 3/4 years or however long it has been

Yes, I thought it was a good episode last night.

I actually quite like the friction between the commissioner and Neville also. It makes it less cosy. Adds a new twist.

Marlon is adding a numerous touch to it. The singing but was superb (and did the twins sleep?.!).

It’s unusual for them to use the same venue twice in succession. Ie. The hospital.

terrywynne · 29/01/2021 22:06

Going back an episode but what is it with Death in Paradise and your colleagues turning up to sit outside while your wife gives birth?? They did the same with Fidel and I remember thinking how annoyed I'd be as his wife having them all sat out on the veranda while I had a baby. I seem to remember that time there was a random stranger tagging along with them too.

Then again American films seem to have all friends going to the hospital and hanging around until the baby is born so maybe it's me who's weird not wanting it....

Clawdy · 29/01/2021 22:20

Loved JP and Marlon dancing! Marlon is a great addition.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/01/2021 22:40

@sanityisamyth

The previous police officer, Fidel, did. JP didn't.
And think they were out side the window while she was giving birth as well

Abs surely they wouidnt let a first time mum of twins go past her due date

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/01/2021 22:41

Ans weren’t the twins HUGE for newborns when Camille was holding one

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/01/2021 10:57

When it said on the iPlayer description "a nurse takes her own life" I thought "pull the other one". Grin

Next week's looks very dramatic!

MedusasBrandyButter · 30/01/2021 11:45

Hopping on the thread! I watched it with DD yesterday.

Detectives often take a while to get into their character (or maybe it's the writers, as the actors themselves are fine!). I was initially really annoyed by Humphrey and Jack and Ruby, and actually stopped watching the show under Jack, but when I rewatched the series recently, I kept going, and ended up enjoying it and liking him! Ditto Ruby: she initially drove me bats, but somehow she turned out competent and sparky and really warm (if you're reading, Shyko, do come back!).

If all these different actors are having the same problem, it's probably the writers' fault! I got a couple of the new Death in Paradise novels, by Robert Thoroughgood, on my kindle last week, and the characterisation was really laboured. It was okay because I had the flesh-and- blood characters to "inhabit" the book plot, but without them... definitely missing something....

Standrewsschool · 30/01/2021 14:01

I really liked Ruby as well and hope she comes back.

I love DIP, but one thing drives me mad in it is the way Florence is dressed, shorts and vest tops for a professional police officer? Surely there'd be some sort of dress code even in the Caribbean?

This has always bugged me! All the female detectives have been similar but her costumes are the worst for it.
ImAncient · 31/01/2021 07:51

I know I was looking at her outfit on Thursday & thinking no surely not! She looks like she’s on holiday not working.

MedusasBrandyButter · 31/01/2021 19:18

You'd think the weather would be a chance to wear some nice linen suits! Even scruffy Humphrey wore a linen suit.

Maireas · 01/02/2021 08:53

I feel the same about Florence's outfits.
I enjoyed the last couple of episodes, I genuinely didn't expect the twist.

SoupDragon · 01/02/2021 08:58

If I had Florence's figure, too bloody right I'd be wearing shorts and a vest top in the Caribbean.

Maireas · 01/02/2021 09:02

Well, there's obviously no dress code in her place of work!

I have just binge watch all 10 series and Camilles clothes were never really that appropriate work clothes either Grin

But i do love the clothes both Camille and Florence wear, the both always look amazing

Maireas · 01/02/2021 10:12

They do look amazing.
I'm looking forward to seeing Camille again.

notacooldad · 01/02/2021 11:46

Yep, me too!!
The clothes don't distract me to be honest. There's so many other things that you could pick up on that are not correct protocol wearing a shorts and a vest top to work us the least of them.
I just enjoy the programme for light TV viewing.

I would totally wear her outfits too if I could. Just maybe not to a crime scene. I always think she looks like she's just been on her days off.

But yes this is a world in which it is acceptable to gather all your suspects and announce to them who is guilty and how they did it before arresting them.... (and presumably they all get found guilty since we never hear otherwise. Maybe we should have a spin off of the lawyers dealing with the procedural cock ups).

I also always wonder how the staffing works. Who is dealing with the petty crime and tourism scams when a major investigation is underway? (Petty crime only seems to happen in relation to a major crime). And are the main detectives destined to always have holidays etc interrupted if there is a murder (because there is no one else)? And why have kess socially awkward British detectives not realised that a years transfer means you get to live in the Caribbean and hang out at beach bars???

notacooldad · 01/02/2021 17:58

Who stays on duty overnight when there is a suspect in the cells?
They never have a phone call or a duty lawyer turn up.
I pretend I don't notice a lot of things but every now and then I have a little comment under my breath just to bug DH!

MedusasBrandyButter · 02/02/2021 13:06

Yes, and they always walk out and leave the police station open (with the murder investigation board in plain view).

I'm surprised it took so long for someone to break in to the station and die there! Hmm www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0002vlg/death-in-paradise-series-8-episode-8

terrywynne · 02/02/2021 13:37

And why has there not been a break out of the cells storyline yet (as far as I remember)? Gotta be the easiest prison break ever.

And when they all walk out of the police station, who answers the phones/takes walk ins? Or are you not able to report crime during a murder investigation? (Unless it is a plot point)

terrywynne · 02/02/2021 13:38

Does anyone watch the Mallorca Files? I watched series 1 in a gap between Death I Paradise series and just noticed series 2 is happening now.

ISaySteadyOn · 02/02/2021 13:44

Is it any good?

mogtheexcellent · 02/02/2021 13:55

I found it ok in parts. Male lead nice looking but annoying. I found the whole idea even more implausible than a British DI in St Marie!

Still it's sunny location, slightly mad premise and good for this time of the year.
