Starts tomorrow night on Sky Atlantic with a “fresh” faced Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. It looks good and I love glamorous New York 😃

Loving it! I thought Hugh Grant was fantastic in the prison scene when Henry and Grace came to visit. The perfect combination of acute shame, regret, hope, devastation and forced jollity when talking to his poor son. Quite heartbreaking, I thought.

Also why was Donald Sutherland sat watching Elena’s art studio?

Ludicrous that the cops didn't confront NK about the cctv footage. But that would've spoiled the build up and reveal at the end of the episode wouldn't it.

Interesting that the lawyer NK visited said her skills were about "undoing" in regard to cases etc.
Why would NK want to engage the lawyer for HG if she herself did it?
Could the shit-hot lawyer be NK's "undoing"?

Can't wait till next week's episode.

@Rollergirl11 I think the hospital would be the ones suing HG, as the Code of Medical Ethics prohibits relationships with patients (and I guess by extension, grieving relatives - it would be seen as an abuse of position/crossing professional boundaries.)
I love all the theories on here - it's my favourite thing to swap thoughts on here after watching, when I know we have a good thread going!

A few things are bothering me. They definitely talked in the first episode about school fees & mentioned the grandfather was paying them. So him saying HG came to him worried about paying school fees doesn’t make sense if he was paying them anyway?

Why was NK not questioned about her movements after the fundraiser before this? Surely that’s a question they would have asked lots of people?

And in Episode 1, HG & NK are talking on the phone (before she goes to the parents meeting) and the hospital is in the background- why would he be there if he’s not working there any more?

Just caught up on Now and can't wait for tonight! NK looks good and really love their house. Didn't know her dad had been seen at Elena's studio so another suspect to add into the mix. It could be any of them. I'm going to stick with HG, he's a complete liar so protesting his innocence doesn't mean a thing. The conference was set up for a reason but not sure how that would help. A bit of breathing space maybe?

Report
Rollergirl11 · 10/11/2020 20:19

Actually that’s a very good point about the conference. HG had already set that lie in motion so what was he planning to do for that day and night away?

So the police have said the only 2 cctv images of interest from the night of the murder are one of Nicole and one of Hugh (I love that no-one has used their character names. I can't even think of Hugh's right now).

Nicole has admitted being in the area going for a walk and Hugh has admitted going to the apartment to speak to Elena. So in theory it's either Hugh or Nicole. If not, the police have either misled us or someone has disguised themselves as one of them.

banivani · 11/11/2020 06:40

I did mention to mr Bani that her very specific style lends itself to disguises doesn’t it? Flowy coats and big hair. We’re back to lawyer friend.

I wonder what the significance of the opening credits is? It's obviously Nicole K as a little girl, and the song is "Dream a little dream". Didn't know it was her singing it too!

Report
readwritelove · 11/11/2020 10:14

I did mention to DD that facially the CCTV image didn’t look like NK but surely they can zoom in and do all face matching wizardry on it?

Also, re the opening credits, I was thinking it’s poor casting if the little girl is supposed to be NK, doesn’t look anything like her/what she might have looked like!

Yes the school fee thing confused me. The grandfather was definitely said to be paying them. I thought when the Grandfather was telling NK about the 500k loan, NK responded coldly to
His
Upset.

About the school fees- i think in the beginning at the fundraiser they talked about NK's dad giving a generous donation to the school not fees

I do wonder if the dad was telling the truth there and the tears were possibly fakeHmm

Haven't started watching yet. Got it recording on sky planner though. Might wait and then binge watch.

@Whatthebloodyell I thought exactly the same, Donald was really upset and NK didn’t seem to care.

Also as someone else said upthread if it was NK whodunnit then why would she be hiring a top shot lawyer to get HG off?

Report
Annasgirl · 11/11/2020 12:51

It really is so confusing but still addictive telly.

NK is getting on my nerves but I still want to watch. She really was too dressed up going to the prison, would you not dress down if you were visiting a prison so as not to draw attention to yourself?

I really hate the apartment the dad lives in - so creepy, it looks like the set of a 1920's drama.

I am now totally confused as to who it might be - and I usually work out the ending by the halfway point. I also thought it didn't really look like Nicole on the CCTV. I even suspect the Dr she was talking to - he seemed to really hate the Hugh Grant character with a passion.

This

So can’t be either of them

Then again dad Donald wouldn’t give her distils of a lawyer is framing him

So

Blonde lily lawyer must be the killer or doctor friend

Definitely not the doctor friend, he's not central enough in the story.
I think it could be the dad

SadRoller

So. I've been awake for hours and I read loads of reviews.

Including one suggestion of a possible ending spoiler alert , ShockShockShock which when I thought about it seemed a real possibility. Only because of something that HG said twice: on the patio when he held his hand over her mouth to stop her screaming. And secondly to his son, on the prison visit. Wanna hear it? Wink

I think it's totally ok to make suggestions/ending productions. On this tv series alone. Normally we don't do that on 'Telly addicts' - it's not the 'rules'.

But it's ok here? The reason for that is that literally none of us know how this is gonna end. The reason for that is that David E Kelley - who also did Big Little Lies with NK, has completely differed from the book.

The book is written from NK's pov and doesn't feature Husband HG at all. It's written as if she finds out her all these things about her husband : That he is not who she thought he was, that he is untrustworthy and has had an affair and thus her whole life is a lie. But it's also written from the premise that he is guilty of the murder. He admits this to her later in a letter.
There is no court case, because it's a given that he's guilty.

So this tv series is totally different. It's a who dunnit? Or rather did HE do it? Or her? Or her father? Or the lawyer friend etc?

None of us know how this tv series is gonna end.
