In the book:

Elena got pregnant and had Jonathan's child. Jonathan paid for Miguel to attend Reardon, and borrowed money from Grace's father to do so. When Elena revealed she was pregnant again, Jonathan impulsively killed her, fearing his secret life would intrude into his carefully manicured one with Grace.


So she was pregnant again!?

HG did tell NK that he had sex with her that night. The last night.


He kept telling his wife on the beach hut patio. And his son. That he didn't do it. That he was a Doctor. And valued life.


Btw, I did think it was very odd. Her beautiful breasts at the committee meeting. Then being naked twice with NK at the gym.
I thought she was unhinged.

Which is why I thought that HG didn't kill her. But now I'm not so sure.

Actually I think that's a bit unfair. As I very clearly said: I know the rules of telly addict but this series is slightly different.

The TV series is very very different from the book.

The book is written from her perspective as a journey of self-discovery having realised that her husband is not who she thought he was. the husband does not feature at all in the book. there is no court case. it is shown right at the beginning that he is guilty. There is no who dunnit. and she goes to the beach house and stays there and meets another man and falls in love.
The whole basis of the book is that she is presented as a writer who is just about to launch a new book based on people not being what you think they are and she's having a grand tour and book signings and this all doesn't happen because she goes to her beach hut.

In the book the couple are presented as practising Jews who are not particularly well off but David Kelley as he often does in many of his series likes to present people as very very wealthy with all the clothes and all the Jewels.

and a whole relationship between Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman is very central to the tv series. Through choice of Kelley. Is he guilty or who else is guilty and the court case is central, but also her self discovery is still a big part of it. but David Kelley chose to take this in a totally different direction.

And that's why I thought my post was ok.

Whether it's a spoiler for the book only, it's still a spoiler, and I don't want to hear it! We don't know how close to the book the ending will be, anyway, even if other bits are changed.

Post spoilers (and then discuss them) if it doesn’t Say SPOILERS in the thread title. So much stuff is released as box sets now, it’s nice to watch something slowly without having somebody spoil the ending for you.

One thing I noticed was the son Miguel.. On the morning his mother's body was found he had left their home and not got on the school bus (as instructed by his Dad). He went straight to the art studio.. Running. Could he have somehow been there the night before??!! A bit far fetched maybe?! It must have been awful for him in hospital seeing his mother being disloyal to his Dad. And he said or it was implied at some point that he didn't fit in in Reardon. He probably really resented Hughs character and would have been really upset if he had walked in on them.. Enough to whack her and then run home? But run back the next morning to check on her..

Miguel is at Reardon on a scholarship, that HG admitted that he arranged when he spoke to NK at the summerhouse. But perhaps he paid for him instead and that’s why he needed the money from Donald Sutherland.

I assumed Miguel skipped school and went to Elena’s studio to find her as she wasn’t at home? Perhaps he knew that his Mum and HG met there.

I am just finding it SO SLOW and quite dreary. I don't know if it's how it's directed or filmed as I'm not an expert in these things. NK is very dreary and I'm finding I have no real connection with any of the characters. Having now watched 3 episodes I'll stick with it but hope it improves.

I think it’s clear that Grace’s father doesn’t like Jonathan at all. I’m wondering if he got wind of the affair, had Elena killed in the hope that it would frame Jonathan for her murder, thus getting him out of Grace’s life. He is clearly a wealthy and powerful man with the means to do it, so who knows!

I really hope it doesn’t turn out to be Grace but she’d ‘blocked’ it out or similar, I’d be very disappointed with a lazy ending such as that!
