Is anyone else watching tonight? Caught up with series 1 to 3 as part of my Lockdown binge and found it got better as the series progressed. Really like Tom Burke and think he has great chemistry with Holliday Grainger.

Looking forward to this series! And pleased episode 2 is on Monday!

OP posts:
RedStreetMonument · 30/08/2020 11:22

Looking forward to this - LOVE the two leads.

Tlollj · 30/08/2020 11:24

Yep can’t wait for this. New book already pre ordered too.

mathsmonster · 30/08/2020 12:28

I am the same as you Tlollj. I love Tom Burke, and I really like the characters in the books. I am really looking forward to Tom, sorry I mean the new series.

RedRiverShore · 30/08/2020 17:46

Just seen this is on, can’t wait, not many new series at the moment

fussychica · 30/08/2020 18:18

Hoping it's better than the book which I thought was pretty dire. I like the two leads so I'm hoping they improve it!

impossibletoday · 30/08/2020 18:36

Part 3 is next Sunday.

TheDogsMother · 30/08/2020 21:55

Loving this but for anyone who is old enough do you think the set up and dynamic is very similar to Cracker ?

The80sweregreat · 30/08/2020 22:11

It's very good. The book is a bit complex so I was worried it would be muddled but it's been fairly straight forward so far
Can't wait for the new book on the 15 th September!
I love the two leads.

colouringindoors · 30/08/2020 22:14

I'm a third of the way through the book trying to finish it before i watch on tv, but it's massive Grin

The80sweregreat · 30/08/2020 22:15

I remember Cracker but he was more of a profiler than an investigator I think?
It was good though and I had a crush on Robbie Coltrane back then!

The80sweregreat · 30/08/2020 22:16

It's a long book and the new one is even longer apparently!

TeachesOfPeaches · 30/08/2020 22:51

I love these two. Found this episode a little confusing as there seem to be too many pale dark haired men to keep track of. Have just pre-ordered the new book, not read them before.

TheFleegleHasLanded · 30/08/2020 23:27

Quite a lot of changes from the book but there is a lot to fit in. I think it’s been done quite well so far, looking forward to episode 2. Shame all the Olympics stuff was lost but that would probably have been too tricky to incorporate.

Xmasbaby11 · 30/08/2020 23:28

i really enjoyed it! The leads are great and I like the back story about her anxiety.

unique1986 · 31/08/2020 00:14

Holliday Grainger is very convincing.
The plots are kinda meh.

stumbledin · 31/08/2020 00:22

I enjoyed tonight's episode, but as usual with me I have forgotton some of the back story. Did Robin have issues in the previous series, I cant remember? More that she was loyal to her then fiancée, but that she was constantly let done by his attitude towards her / them

I liked the plotting and was convinced that JKR is well informed about House of Commons standard of behaviour of office staff.

Thanks to those who have read the books, for not posting spolers.

For those who haven't read them it really is great to jusst watch and see it unfold.

(Did anyone read the article in the Radio Times - of all places - asking if it was okay to watch the series because of the accusation against JKR?!!)

TinyMetalBirds · 31/08/2020 00:51

I like the books and the series, but tend to keep, them completely separate in my mind because much as I love the gorgeous Tom Burke, he is nothing like Strike as depicted in the books. So they are two completely different things for me, both of which I like very much.
Also I have an awful memory for crime plots, which works very well as I can read them again and again - so despite having read Lethal White I can’t remember at all what happens...

RaggieDolls · 31/08/2020 08:44

@stumbledin, she was stabbed by the killer in the third book / tv series and has PTSD.

I enjoyed last night's episode but again, it's a big departure from the book. The finding of the pink blanket happens much later in the book so intrigued to see how they are going to sequence the story from there.

I absolutely loved Lethal White. My favourite of the four books so far.

HelloDulling · 31/08/2020 08:46

I didn’t enjoy this book so much as previous ones, but loved last night’s ep.

Cocolapew · 31/08/2020 08:50

I wish they had did a recap I can't remember what happened in the last one Blush

CarinaClaws · 31/08/2020 08:52

I read it again recently and was really interested to see the casting. Sophie Winkleman as Kinvara is inspired although disappointed in Rafe as just not sexy enough. Looks like a standard Tory boy with a side parting not the Italian god he's made out to be. Matt is well cast as exactly the sort whose face you'd like to slap!

Evenstar · 31/08/2020 08:57

Did anyone else recognise the beautiful green dress that Robin’s husband told her not to wear as the one Strike bought her in a previous story? I found it so sad last night that she seems trapped in a marriage that she had immediately regretted and is becoming more enmeshed as time goes on.

RaggieDolls · 31/08/2020 09:01

Totally agree @CarinaClaws, Rafe is distinct from the rest of the family in the book as he is so good looking.

There was a poll on Robert Galbraith's Facebook recently that posed the question 'who is the worst villain in the series' and most people said Matt. He is so well cast.

CarinaClaws · 31/08/2020 09:25

Exactly! He's supposed to be irresistible to Robyn as Venetia. Still, if she married Matt then annoying is obvously her type so maybe I'm wrong Grin

The80sweregreat · 31/08/2020 10:08

Rafe is meant to be so good looking in the book.
I bet her new book gets bad reviews because of all the press about J K and her views on trans women. There will be a backlash no doubt.
As much as I like the books they do have the same sort of characters : posh and upper class and the very poor feature a lot.
It's the dynamic between those two that I love the most which keeps me reading them though.
