Is anyone else watching tonight? Caught up with series 1 to 3 as part of my Lockdown binge and found it got better as the series progressed. Really like Tom Burke and think he has great chemistry with Holliday Grainger.

Looking forward to this series! And pleased episode 2 is on Monday!

@IntermittentParps

Anyone else a bit Hmm at the idea of Kinvara and her stepson having an affair?

Also, even a small pony would surely be too big to be mistaken for a small child? Not to mention being bloody heavy to carry.

In the book it's a miniature pony, so pretty tiny, and Billy has also been given yoghurt laced with cannabis by the teenagers to keep him from whining/crying.

As Strike says, he's a damn good witness given his age and the circumstances.

MintyCedric · 19/09/2020 14:30

Tbf they left way too many loose ends at the end of the TV series.

Clawdy · 21/09/2020 17:52

The thing that rather irritates me about Tom Burke is his background! Mum and dad famous actors/ directors, and godfather Alan Rickman paid his fees at RADA. Not quite like the struggling young actors I know......

IntermittentParps · 22/09/2020 08:55

His background is hardly his fault though, is it.

TwoDrifters2 · 22/09/2020 11:01

Exactly. If people follow their parents into the medical profession, or the legal, etc. is that irritating? Why should acting be any different?

And he’s clearly talented in his own right.

Clawdy · 22/09/2020 16:17

Acting is completely different from other professions. It is so often about who you know. Even getting an audition is very difficult, let alone getting the role. I agree he is talented, but so are lots of young actors who never get their chance.

IntermittentParps · 22/09/2020 16:39

It is so often about who you know

It's not the only industry that is, not by a long chalk. If you're going to have a chip on your shoulder about nepotism you could at least be equal opportunities about it.

Clawdy · 22/09/2020 16:57

Cider With Rosie - tv version few years ago. Producer announced proudly that all the young people's roles were cast from trawling local schools. Playing Rosie was Ruby Serkis.....now that sounds familiar, wonder why....

IntermittentParps · 22/09/2020 17:14

Out of a large cast you've picked one actor.

In a big law firm it's quite likely there'll be at least one person who has a family connection to the company.
In my business (books) there are also family links and connections.
In my DP's (design) it's often the same.

I'll say again: you can say there's nepotism in acting, but it simply isn't true to say that makes it 'completely different from other professions.'

Clawdy · 22/09/2020 20:02

And I'll say again: acting is different!

monkeyonthetable · 22/09/2020 21:46

@Clawdy - are his parents that famous? His dad is a jobbing actor - one or two episodes of this and that each year which just amounts to a few days work. Must spend the rest of his time doing theatre. His mum seems the same. The only starry connection is his godfather.

Clawdy · 22/09/2020 22:32

Anna Calder Marshall was a very famous actress back in the day. And his father was Watson in the Sherlock Holmes series years back. Both very well known at one time.

IntermittentParps · 23/09/2020 10:06

And I'll say again: acting is different!

Clawdy, you're not engaging with what I say. Do you think there is, or isn't, nepotism and 'it's who you know' in other industries?

MintyCedric · 23/09/2020 10:18

Tom Burke has more than paid his dues in the acting industry. There are plenty of other much better known celebrity offspring taking the piss on the nepotism front.

And you say acting is different...I work in a state school. In the few years I've been there I would say a good third of those taken on have known or been related to someone already working there, and it's an open secret that if all things are equal but you happen to have attended the school you're more likely to be offered the job.

Clawdy · 23/09/2020 12:28

Ok,ok! (Holds hands up!) Nepotism is never right.

ABCDay · 23/09/2020 12:39

My friend works in the Co-op. What really irritates about her husband and daughter is that they work there too. Same shop and everything! Angry

IntermittentParps · 23/09/2020 12:58

ABCDay, Grin it is funny isn't it how we perceive things differently depending on the kind of job.

knittingaddict · 23/09/2020 13:05

Well Clawdy thinks:

Nepotism is never right.

So, your friends family should be ashamed of themselves.

ABCDay · 23/09/2020 16:04

Maybe the daughter should stop having everything handed to her on a plate in the Co-op and go and try her hand at acting Grin

Italiangreyhound · 25/10/2020 00:49

Just watched all four series in the last few days. I was not keen on 1-3 but loved series 4 Lethal White. Totally brilliant.

Does anyone know was the Sarah Matt slept with at the end the same as the Sarah he slept with while they were at College? Or am I getting the name of the first woman mixed up.

Magi84 · 25/10/2020 12:56

Yes it was the same Sarah.
