Is anyone else watching tonight? Caught up with series 1 to 3 as part of my Lockdown binge and found it got better as the series progressed. Really like Tom Burke and think he has great chemistry with Holliday Grainger.

Looking forward to this series! And pleased episode 2 is on Monday!

@nibdedibble

I’ve not read the books but one thing the tv series shows is Matt’s aspirations to be kind of ‘not-Northern’ - he’s dying to be the southern middle class metropolitan doing all the right things and having the boring but very well-paid job and the trophy wife who’ll do a good party and hand round the canapés. She goes along with it for her home life and runs a mile from it at work.
This is bang on...the books refer to the fact that Matt's late mum was from Surrey and vaguely disapproving of 'Northern-ness' despite having married his dad, and tried to train it out of Matt and his sister.

@Crinkle77

If you want them to get it on, there is oodles of fan fiction on that very subject Grin

Strike Series - Robert Galbraith/works

Everysinglebloodytime · 13/09/2020 22:37

Well that's me sorted!

MintyCedric · 13/09/2020 22:38

I think I've read (or written) every smutty one on there Blush

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 13/09/2020 22:43

Big question for me is .. where can I buy the scarf Robin was wearing tonight??

Followtheyellowsicktoad · 13/09/2020 22:45

Does anyone else think that the next book is going to have Charlotte throw a major spanner in the works?

Based upon her saying something like ‘I want you back- thought you’d want a heads up’ (I may have taken liberties with the text there). Thus will we all be on the edge of our Robin/Strike seats a bit longer. Grr.

Ooh ha ha thanks! There is an amazing chemistry between them. I mean who doesn't love a will they won't they?

Crinkle77 · 13/09/2020 23:11

Yes fellow I do. Grrr bugger off Charlotte.

MintyCedric · 13/09/2020 23:12

Well, exactly...and there is some really well written stuff on there.

I don't think fan fiction gets the credit it deserves tbh.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/09/2020 23:12

Yes to ending

Woke up to horse lady on bench with brother?

Cba to watch the hour again so yes a recap would be fab. Thanks

Me. I don't. I'd really like to see a series like this where a man and a woman work together, get on really well and are straightforwardly friends. It would be so refreshing.

I enjoyed tonight's although my other annoyance was with the pronunciation of Geraint. It wasn't just that they were pronouncing it wrong, they weren't consistent! Just as I'd decided to live with it Strike would pronounce it correctly, just to show he could...

Bravefarts · 13/09/2020 23:32

Even Ciara Porter pronounced Ciara wrong in the first series.

You'd think since Rowling is so involved, she'd teach the correct pronunciation of the names she chose?

MsCupcake · 14/09/2020 06:36

The scene with Geraint on the park bench was heartbreaking, Robert Pugh played a blinder there.... 😢

That was fantastic...one of the few changes from the book that I really enjoyed.
Hels20 · 14/09/2020 07:25

But @FreezerBird - there are. I thought Broadchurch was like that, Line of Duty, Unforgotten (apart from one drunken scene in a pub in series 2 I think), Spooks in first 3 series - even thought Matthew M and Kelsey H were a real life couple - nothing. I think there are lots where man and woman get on well and there is nothing else.

It’s also not life - people do meet their partners at work - it’s one of the advantages to going into an office that will soon disappear with our home working!

Actually I can't on here so...

SPOILER ALERT.......................

Kinvara and Raff were having an affair, he convinced her to be involved in a plot to kill his dad so they could be together (and pocket the inheritance).

What she didn't realise was that the painting they made all the noise about was worth £20million. Raff didn't love her and it was all a ploy for him to marry her then kill her so he inherited everything. He had hidden it in the attic so it wasn't sold with the rest of the belongings.

Raff tricked Robin into meeting him (she thought she was meeting Matt) on a canal boat and was going to kill her but hot Cormoran kicked the door in and rescued her. He called Raff a cowardly fuck then punched him (swoons).

Turned out the person that the lad from the beginning (can't remember his name) saw being strangled on the horse was Raff (he had long hair), being abused by his brother who then killed Raffs pony and that is what was buried.

The blackmail was in connection with gallows that the bloke from agents of shield's (Jimmy?) dad was making for Chisell. He made him carry on exporting them after the ban on export of torture equipment and one of their gallows was stolen and used by terrorists to execute a young lad which was recorded and shared online. Jimmy(?) wanted his cut of the money and threatened to expose Chisell. Geraint wanted his own back on Chisell because his son Freddie(?) was an abusive arsehole to Geraint's daughter.

But mainly, there was a really cute moment with a hug / near kiss.

New book arriving tomorrow!

It was all a bit rushed that last episode, much prefer the books, so much more backstory, but a bit of an easy Sunday night watch I suppose.

Thedisco2000 · 14/09/2020 13:16

Am I the only one thinking it might be bad for Strike and Robin to get together since they also work together?

stumbledin · 14/09/2020 13:24

I thought the plot behind the crime was well thought out. All that stuff about gallows! - who knew?

But wasn't all that keen on the damsel in distress action hero finale. Seemed a bit cliched. Were previous series like this? Cant remember.

I thought it was more about solving the crime.

And maybe there are women as self engrossed at the terrible ex, but would anyone be that confident of manipulating, or trying to manipulate someone back into a relationship in the way she did.

Am beginning to wonder if all the posh nasty people aren't a bit of a charicature.

And yes the office romance thing is just a bit tiresome.

But I want to admire it because it is JKR. Sad

Winecheesesleep · 14/09/2020 13:38

I liked it but I thought the casting of Raff wasn't right and he's such an important character. He wasn't as charming and and charismatic as in the books, I thought he was really well written in the book to pull off the ending.

Love the other casting though, especially the two leads.

MintyCedric · 14/09/2020 14:24

Tbf ita the first time Strike has rescued Robin.

Series 1 - she rescued him
Series 2 - she tackled the runaway killer to the ground
Series 3 - she was attacked but fought off the killer with her self defence moves, then went to tackle a paedophile in his own home resulting in Strike sacking her for gross misconduct.

The80sweregreat · 14/09/2020 15:17

Their relationship is much less intense in the books.
Corm is trying to get over horrible Charlotte and Robin is in turmoil over Matt and her job. They like each other , but its not as it's portrayed in this , it's a bit more subtle and they just respect each other.

I agree that Rafe was miscast here as his so stunning in the books: a bit more of a Jilly Cooper sizzling character and younger too! You think his ok at first just misunderstood and even Robin does fancy him a bit.
The rich and the poor feature a lot in these books. She is quite Dickensian with her contrasts of the under privileged and the very wealthy!
