Is anyone else watching tonight? Caught up with series 1 to 3 as part of my Lockdown binge and found it got better as the series progressed. Really like Tom Burke and think he has great chemistry with Holliday Grainger.

Looking forward to this series! And pleased episode 2 is on Monday!

He didn't rip the green dress trying to get it off her, he ripped it in anger and jealousy.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/09/2020 13:32

He wanted Sex. She didn’t

He ripped the dress. Wasn’t taking no

lazymum99 · 04/09/2020 13:33

Strike bought her the green dress. Have any of you ever been bought a dress by a man and if so did you like it and did it fit??!! Grin

mum2jakie · 04/09/2020 13:37

She'd already tried it on though. Strike knew she liked it, knew it fit her and knew she looked gorgeous in it.

lazymum99 · 04/09/2020 13:50

That explains it then. I can’t remember the previous stories.
But they are often doing this on tv and I can’t imagine it being successful.

The80sweregreat · 04/09/2020 14:22

In Cuckoo she is working undercover in a dress shop trying to get information from one of the assistants and tries the dress on and then Strike buys it for her to say thank you as he sees her her in it ( he pretends to be Robin's brother ) after they solve the case!
It s very expensive and she can't afford it herself.

MintyCedric · 06/09/2020 03:52

Tbf strike can't afford the dress either at that point but buys it for her anyway!

I am a bit obsessed with this series, although its the first time I've watched the TV version after reading the book.

I'm finding I have to watch them a few times to get into the story as I'm too busy picking holes making comparions on the first watch.

Did anyone else whose read the books notice it was Lorelei that answered Robin's honeymoon phone call to Strike not the one night stand he has in the books?

I wonder if that's going to come up in the 'Yeah I heard you' fallout. She must have realised it was Robin and presumably never told Strike.

Tonight's episode promises to be an absolute corker.

The80sweregreat · 06/09/2020 09:04

I do tend to find myself more concerned about their relationships in the books than the actual plot of murder and death !

MintyCedric · 06/09/2020 11:54

@The80sweregreat

Oh I know...that's what fan fiction is for!

Have you read the preview chapters of Troubled Blood that were released a couple of weeks ago?

The80sweregreat · 06/09/2020 12:54

I haven't seen any chapters of the new book yet! I keep meaning to pre order it.
I can't wait for next week.

MintyCedric · 06/09/2020 17:37

@The80sweregreat

I'm dreadful - have already ordered in hardback, Kindle and audiobook book format.

There's a lot of debate on the fan forums as to whether the preview chapters might be a spoof or fake as there are a lot of errors.

Will be interesting to find out next week. I'd planned to pace myself and save some for the following weekend as it's my birthday but will no doubt end up pulling an all nighter!

The80sweregreat · 06/09/2020 17:51

I'm so excited to find out about Robin Minty! I always feel that Cormoran will be alright , despite everything, but she is quite fragile and also my favorite character as well.

MintyCedric · 06/09/2020 18:07

If what I've read is legit I suspect Corm is in for a bit of an emotional battering in this one.

SimonJT · 06/09/2020 21:56

While he is a decent actor I still don’t like him as Strike.

I had also forgotten what a bastard Matt is.

mum2jakie · 06/09/2020 22:09

Tonight's episode was brilliant. Matt is a bastard but she's right, they should never have got married.

Disappointed I've got to wait a whole week for the next episode.

RaggieDolls · 06/09/2020 22:18

I agree there is chemistry @CarinaClaws but my goodness, those smouldering looks the actors give each other!

Enjoyed tonight's episode. They didn't ruin the Matthew and Robyn scenes.

longtompot · 06/09/2020 22:37

I really thought tonight's was the last one of this season and I was thinking well they've got a lot to cover in these last five mins!
Good on Robin! I don't think Matt comes across as awful as he does in the books. I think I just hate him instinctively knowing what his character is meant to be like.
I had to look on my phone when Robin 'Becka' was found out and being chased. That was a good move she did when Jimmy was chasing her.
Looking forward to next weeks now. I do need to reread the books. I think I have the first three.

MintyCedric · 07/09/2020 06:34

There are no words for the scene when Robin rocked up at the office in full goth dress. Strike's reaction was excellent Grin.

I can't for the life of me fathom why they insist on playing down how much of an arsehole Matthew is in the TV versionthough.

goldilachs · 07/09/2020 07:00

@MintyCedric could you please let me know where to find the fan forums, I've had a google but can't find them anywhere....

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/09/2020 07:50

I like strikes forceful stay down or sit down in the kitchen

Yes robins looks fab as a goth

And funny seeing tax driver from ee

The80sweregreat · 07/09/2020 09:20

Dh likes Robin and as a goth too!
I'm glad she got away from that party and Jimmy. Good job she wasn't in heels as it was a long way to run.
I've forgotten a lot about the actual plot with jimmy and Billy and it is a bit confusing at times.

stumbledin · 07/09/2020 14:30

I was a bit disappointed by some of last night's episode. eg police turning up just in time!

Also, and this is maybe a bit silly of me, but didn't like it the Aamir (who isn't credited on BBC web sites!) got threatened by Strike saying who could let everyone now he was gay, and last week, Robin pulled the white upper class routine to inimidate him

But thought Lorelei was wonderful. And yes it makes Strike a coward - not exactly a hero.

And dont think until Robin's showdown with Matthew I had realised quite how much he tried to undermine her. Before just thought he was a bit self centred, not a malicious manipulator.

Can any one explain the connections as to how it was the Billy stayed for a time in the house Aamir was living in. Imust have missed or forgotten something.

Oh yes - and good on Della too!

TeachesOfPeaches · 07/09/2020 15:05

I'm so excited now that they are both single. I'm on the edge of my 'will they won't they' seat

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/09/2020 15:27

I thought he knew his brother

CodenameVillanelle · 07/09/2020 15:50

Geraint was blackmailing chiswell with the info that jimmy knight had about the thing they haven't covered yet. Amir was party to the blackmail and tasked with babysitting billy I think to keep him from talking to anyone. I seem to remember that billy was scared to leave the flat and strike initially thought amir was keeping him prisoner but in fact he couldn't make him leave
