Can't wait to see if CV is wearing joggers...

OP posts:

Just had an interesting conversation with my mum, who started her nursery nurse training in the late 50's, and worked in residential care from then until the late 60's. She's horrified at CV, and says that she thinks that the methods are more a reflection of CV's own personality and style than what was considered best practice in the 50s. My mum is keen on routine to an extent, as she thinks babies like knowing roughly what's happening and when, but she's horrified at leaving them to cry - she said they never did that in residential care (with lots of babies to look after), and gave them as much cuddling as possible.

MegaLegs · 03/10/2007 12:59

Wow my typing is shit when I'm riled - sorry

3andnomore · 03/10/2007 13:04

Urban at yoru facial deformity woman comment not a nice way to say somehting imo...

I posted last night on the Claire Verity part 2 thread...but CV...well., she would have been bootet out of my house...and whilst the twin mum is a bit annoying and over the top...she would be a better mummy if she kicked that silly woman out ....
Her mum /grandmum must have had such a shock...as she looked the traditional kind of woman, from a culture where family is very much involved asnd closeknit....
10minutes cuddles, no eyecontact...honestly this cv woman is worse then you know who....

I think a mixture of Continioum concept and dr. spock is kinda the ideal

3andnomore · 03/10/2007 13:05

sprogger....I most certianly would never use that woman as a Babysitter ever....horrible...just horrible...

jamila169 · 03/10/2007 13:07

Did anyone else do what i did when they showed Grace feeding and shout she's too high up!!!
I really felt for her , but Claire didn't seem to really get a handle on what was happening when Grace was having to haul her breast up to the baby rather than bring the baby up to her.

petitions.pm.gov.uk/parentingshows/ there is a petition campaigning against this programme if anyone wants to sign up. Not sure if anyones mentioned it.

MegaLegs · 03/10/2007 13:18

Well done ginger - I was trying to find that.

MrsSeanSlater · 03/10/2007 13:19

Do you think the parents are looking for mentions of themselves on websites? They could be reading this very thread.
If they are I would like to tell them they should be ashamed of themselves for letting that evil woman influence them.
I do believe CV dislikes babies, otherwise she wouldn't be able to sneer and smirk outside their bedroom while they scream for comfort.
You could almost see her thinking 'little sods, they won't get the better of me'. Fine if they were eight and playing up, a different story altogether with newborns.

MegaLegs · 03/10/2007 13:20

Signed it

3andnomore · 03/10/2007 13:23

Slater...I think they may do ( I know I did when my son appeared in a programme..in general I was able to give my point of view then and well, I was happy with my personal decisions, so, didn't have a problem as such anyway, and could understand where other parents came from in their opinion...but it isn't nice when people say something very personal, would imagine that is hard to take....)

Concetta · 03/10/2007 13:23

I have spoken to the NSPCC this morning. I suggest that as many people as possible ring up and say they want to make a child protection referral about it. They will try and palm you off to their PR department (spoke to them to and it is worth doing so, so that they know that people want action not just a press statment saying 'we dont agree with this'.

This must become more than just a 'PR / media is bad' issue. It must be taken up as a child protection concern, both for the families in the programme and for future babies in contact with Claire Verity.

I have aslo spoken to the Nursing and Midwifery Council about her using a nurse name and uniform, despite being unregistered. Their Standards department was also very concerened and will investigate.

Lastly, I have called the Children's Safeguarding unit at the Department for Children's, Schools and Families, about the fact that 'Maternity Nurses' appear to be unregulated (if she was a childminder you could contact ofsted and have her struck off). They too were very concerned. Their tel no. is 0870 000 2288.

The more people who call to the various bodies, the harder it will be for the 'machine' to not respond.

MegaLegs · 03/10/2007 13:25

gingerninja - why don't you start a new thread with a link to that petition (if it's not already been done) it might get buried in this thraed and I'm sure there will be others who'd like to sign it.

WinnieThePooh · 03/10/2007 13:25

signed it already

TheWiltedRose · 03/10/2007 13:25

well done concetter ill do the same and i have signed the petition

3andnomore · 03/10/2007 13:25

and ..I can't sign the petition, as my son "starred" in first series of Baby Borrowers (I may add he was nearly 4 years at the time of filming)

tibsy · 03/10/2007 13:40

signed it
was really and .... shouting at the tv like a loon!
10 mins cuddletime WTF?!!!

princessmel · 03/10/2007 13:44

Just wacthed it.

It was truly awful

That poor baby Mia when she was sicking up her milk. She is being fed so much just so she can 'last' the 4 hours till next feed time. Her little body may have only wanted a small amount then some more in a few hours

And CV leaving the twins to cry while the parents were out. She seems evil. Like she enjoys it. She has serious control and power issues.

The babies just want their mums.

I can't wait to get pregnant so I can cuddle and show love to my newborn baby. I'm deffo getting one of those slings ala the continum(sp) concept.

I'd LOVE it if one of the CV families decided to switch to one of the other methods. And then you saw how happy they could be.

princessmel · 03/10/2007 13:50

Agree sprogger. My 2 did have some sort of routine i.e bath , bf, bed but not strict with times etc.

MrsJamin · 03/10/2007 13:54

I've just found out some wonderful news. Did a search for Claire Verity on google this morning and found the link www.thebabyshow.co.uk/nec-birmingham/show-features/learn/sleeping-routines.

However now this link doesn't work - you can see what the page did look like through google's cached page though. If you go to www.thebabyshow.co.uk/nec-birmingham/show-features/learn/ you can see that there is no longer a 'sleeping routines' session by Claire Verity, she's been struck off the show!!! They obviously knew she'd be lynched! A first victory I think - hit her where it hurts - she won't be able to charge so much or create a business out of giving dangerous, unscientific advice to naive mothers with more money than sense. :D

MrsJamin · 03/10/2007 14:06

Just realised they announced it on here before I posted... doh!

Amethyst8 · 03/10/2007 14:18

Have not read all these posts but IMO if you feel sick and panicky when your baby cries THEN THERE IS A F**KING REASON FOR IT!!!!!!! If hormones are released that make you feel that way then there is a reason for it!

I cried while I watched that programme last night at the thought of those tiny little babies being left to cry and getting all red in the face and that rattley desperate cry that new borns do if you can t get to them immediately and how terrified they must feel that no one is ever coming. I am tearful now just thinking about it.

I don t think CV is for real. She is like a pantomime villain and if she is then I have never hated anyone so much. The misery that she must have inflicted on countless new borns over the years defies belief. I don t feel sorry for the parents. Go down this road and you deserve everything you get.

Poohbah · 03/10/2007 14:26

Another episode of shame.

Clare verity's "methods" are the methods of a child abuser.

Yet again she refered to babies as "it".

Does anyone actually know what qualifications she actually has?

How much professional development does she do?

Oh and I am a farmers daughter and I don't even know what the fuck she is talking about. On our farm orphaned newborn lambs were taken into the kitchen as fed on demand throughout the night, wrapped in cardigans, kept on the warm oven and loved back to life otherwise GUESS WHAT THEY DIED!

Poohbaa, she has got a website...and I could find zero reference to any training...not that I was surprised...
now, I know it oculd be argued that maybe she just hasn't put her training qualifications on her website...however, I owuld think, if you have qualification then you would want to let people know about them, as many people as possible...

witchandchips · 03/10/2007 14:41

lack of training is not the problem, nor is the fact that she has no children of her own. What is the issue is that her opinions are so counter intuitive (babies don't need cuddles) AND she has NO evidence base to back herself up

The fact that GF disassociates herself from CVs routines for newborns speaks volumes
