AitchTwoOh · 03/10/2007 00:03

please please please for bobby...

can you get some sleep? do you think you'll be able to?

kiskidee · 03/10/2007 00:19

dh walked into the room tonight while CV was spouting her nonsense. After 15 secs he said, 'something should peck that woman's eyes out.' and walked off.

kiskidee · 03/10/2007 00:21

ya see. another reason i am cynical about the nspcc.

Tinker · 03/10/2007 00:29

I asked my partner tonight "How old do you think that woman is?" He did the it's a trick question look then said, hmm not that old, er, 52?

ninedragons · 03/10/2007 08:07

I do hope that when the CV parents are old, infirm and incontinent that their poor children stick them in the grimmest retirement homes they can find, where their arses are wiped once every four hours and other than that they're left shut in their rooms alone, and the staff face disciplinary action for talking to or making eye contact with the patients.

Intergenerational care cuts both ways.

I suppose that's the problem, though - if CV were running a retirement home on her sick, f*cked-up principles there would be speeches in the Commons calling for her blood. Doing it to babies behind closed doors? No problem, apparently.

pooka · 03/10/2007 08:19

Agree completely Piffle. Oh the bliss of just nuzzling a tiny baby. Or a bigger one for that matter. I still spend significant time each day sniffing my dc's heads and necks. DS is now 2. DD is 4. It's heaven.

My mother's family called it "nitching". And they all, as did we, spent many a happy afternoon just nitching the baby.

Though I do realise that at some point they will honk I can't really bear to think of that at the moment.

theUrbanDryad · 03/10/2007 08:42

i really want another tiny baby now...that program made me feel all broody!! i want a newborn head to sniff! fortunately my bf is due in Nov, so i'll be able to cuddle him and sniff his head (if she lets me have a go! )

was anyone else faintly chilled by the way CV said "Two babies to look after tonight!" she had the strangest look on her face. almost predatory.

SharpMolarBear · 03/10/2007 08:50

I didn't like the way she spoke to the twin mum when she was saying "They're crying Claire" (when they were in the garden). You could see she was thinking "FFS. neurotic mother"
But then somehow she brainwashed the woman into agreeing that she was likely to mollycoddle them if not shown the right way

WaynettaVonBlood · 03/10/2007 08:52

(sorry to butt in, but am I right in thinking that CV's mthods sound a little like SWMNBN?)

SharpMolarBear · 03/10/2007 08:53

Sure someone with more knowledge of GF will be on in a sec but as far as I know GF is into routines, but not for tiny babies. She also doesn't ration affection

yogimum · 03/10/2007 08:56

they are very similiar in their approach

theUrbanDryad · 03/10/2007 08:58

while i personally don't agree with GF's methods, she is nowhere near as bad as CV. she does recommend a routine, but she explicitly states that a hungry baby should be fed, and that controlled crying is never recommended for a baby under 6months. also, let's not forget that both GF and CV are products of their childhood; GF co-slept with her mother till she was 11, CV was Truby King'd. think both examples perfectly illustrate the fact that extremes do not work. you need a little bit of all "styles" when you parent (IMO, anyway) and a lot of common sense.

i'm so broody it hurts...

JustineMumsnet · 03/10/2007 09:11

Hi all,
We do understand that feelings are running high with regard to this programme, but can we remind you that whilst there is no problem with disussing/ objection to a particular parenting method, personal attacks and potential libels break our abuse policy. (You know the form).

Thanks,
MNHQ

Most is.

spookykitty · 03/10/2007 09:25

erm not all was, the airbrushed picture, exploits with MJ etc

JustineMumsnet · 03/10/2007 09:27

And it only takes a couple of potential libels to make a court case (as we know to our cost).

BabiesEverywhere · 03/10/2007 09:43

My DH was shouting at the screen as much as I was !!!

Oh it is more than possible to carry two children at the same time, be that twins or a toddler and a newborn, see this section for fantastic pictures and advice on wearing more than one child.

More than One

I fall more into the AP type of parenting and was pleased that despite trying to angle the Continum Concept people as complete nutters, it didn't come across to bad. They showed the woman who had trouble breastfeeding a lot (I hope she had access to a BFC) but the other mother really enjoyed feeding and didn't even wake up at night whilst her child nursed...awww.

Just comparing the content baby in a sling who we never saw awake let alone crying, to the poor heartbroken twins screaming outside in their cold pram, shows how nutty the CV methods are...poor babies

Is my name all good though???

Habbibu · 03/10/2007 09:46

Feeling a bit spooked now - my daughter is asleep outside in her silver cross. She's cuddling teddy, I shushed and patted her to sleep, as she's got a cold, she's all cosy in a sleeping bag and blankets, and I warmed up the pram with a hot water bottle before she got in. She mostly falls asleep looking at the trees and singing to herself. Tell me that I am NOT Claire Verity!

NicknameDeletedByMn · 03/10/2007 09:47

do u sneer if she starts crying and still leave her out there?....If not then no your not!

compo · 03/10/2007 09:47

why go to all the trouble of warming up the pram with a hot water bottle?
Why not just put her in the cot? Or take her for a walk for her nap?
