Anyone watching? The Sydney couple are never going to last. She’s so annoying, surely just on it to get on tv??

Have their ever been a couple from these shows that have stayed married?

And it's still all about what then men want/need isn't it? Appears dated and unrealistic still.

HappyBumbleBee · 09/07/2020 00:42

Hubby and I have only just discovered this series and are enjoying analysing them all 😂 not sure about the twin Michelle, I can't help but feel if her sister wasn't getting on with her guy then she'd have quit by now.
As for Deb - John gave up trying after all her put downs and I think he was as shocked as we were when she wrote STAY on her commitment cardl!
Trashy reality TV that's got me and hubby thinking we could be great relationship counselors 😂

I'm watching last nights episode and Michael terrifies me. He's awful and I agree with the PPs who said there are so many red flags.
I'm so glad they both decided to leave!

BlueTongueSkink · 09/07/2020 09:20

Couldn't agree more about Michael. His attitude when he fell out with Scarlett was scary.

Honeyroar · 09/07/2020 09:30

I’m glad Micheal and Scarlett decided to split. The most sensible thing they’d done. I actually thought he was right (for once) questioning the “experts” who were coming out with bullocks about the reasons they put them together. We all know it wasn’t a scientific experiment, they were chosen to be good tv!

Cruddles · 09/07/2020 09:51

As much as Debbie and Michael aren't particularly likable people i do feel they've been left up the creek without a paddle. I'm sure people put what they're looking for in a partner when applying and then they seem to get nothing even close. These "experts" try and make it sound like they've done them a favour when in reality there's X amount of people willing to do this and they've had to shoehorn a few of the couples together. I just wish they'd drop this psuedo science bullshit

Honeyroar · 09/07/2020 10:03

Yes I agree. And the experts keep saying the match will “stretch them” or “allow them to grow” when I’d say most good matches allow you to be yourself and accept/line you for who you are. However Debbie particularly didn’t seem remotely capable of even trying, she was completely focused on her ideal and what she’d expecting. I wonder if they’d actually told her she was going to have a Polynesian match? She even styled her inputs to the wedding as Polynesia - her entrance and the entertainment..

I've only just found this, and the episodes are long, so I'm quite far behind the rest of you. I'm really struck at how unsympathetic the editing is - showing all of the eye rolls and cringing of the guests. Some of the brides and grooms are almost caricatures. Some of them remind me of Chris Lilley's work.

MrsJamin · 09/07/2020 10:43

I'm so glad you're all watching this trashy TV!
Michael and Scarlett almost deserved each other, he was a dick and she was an idiot - "aspiring author" my arse. Keep on aspiring, Scarlett. He had so many red flags especially on the keeping up pretence at the dinner.
The mining couple sound like they are really going to be challenged by the location issue but they are the most obviously head over heels with each other.
Poor John having to have another week with deeply dippy Debbie.
The psychologists motives are questionable, it sounds like they are always putting couples together on what they need rather than what they want and wanting women to fix the men in some way.
It looks like they are implying Cheryl and abandrew get put together from the end of episode 8?

Honeyroar · 09/07/2020 10:46

Yes it does, doesn’t it. Which also knocks the “carefully matched scientifically” theory!

OP posts:
MrsJamin · 09/07/2020 10:47

It's produced by endemol, aka big brother creators, so that tells you everything - they just want drama and watchable TV! There's no science at all I bet.

LarkDescending · 09/07/2020 11:12

Let’s face it, if there was any meaningful expertise in the matchmaking process they would presumably have achieved more than zero enduring partnerships out of the first three seasons.

Whoever develops a reliable algorithm for “chemistry” will be a future billionaire, but it aint’t going to be this bunch!

LarkDescending · 09/07/2020 11:14

Oops I am being unfair. One enduring partnership out of the first three seasons.

MrsJamin · 09/07/2020 11:20

I don't think MAFS UK has produced any long term couples!

Egghead68 · 09/07/2020 11:21

Just realised this is on every night! I don’t much like any of them but it’s compelling TV!

EggBoxes · 09/07/2020 11:28

I don't think MAFS UK has produced any long term couples!

Weird that Love Island has a greater success rate.

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 09/07/2020 11:36

Does anyone else think that Debbie wrote stay on purpose to make herself look good and John look bad. Even though she didn't want to stay together. Were they even still together.

Cruddles · 09/07/2020 11:42

She seems unhinged. Spends all of her time talking about how John is nothing like what she wants, then when he says let's call it a day she comes out with lines about him being negative and not wanting to try the relationship

bibliomania · 09/07/2020 11:46

Yes, Debbie clearly has a narrative of "I'm the one who is trying", while relentlessly underminimg the relationship.

I can't blame anyone for not being attracted to another person, but own your position.

1984andout · 09/07/2020 11:59

I thought Zoe and (?) from Season 1 we're still together?

And in America there were a few?

LarkDescending · 09/07/2020 12:04

@1984andout Zoe and Alex had a child but are no longer a couple.

WorryWartOne · 09/07/2020 12:24

@LarkDescending

John looked gutted! Maybe Debbie wanted another week on TV to reel in a few Polynesian islanders.
🤣
LarkDescending · 09/07/2020 12:26

I think one of the experts on the American version found her own “chemistry” with a former contestant, and had to be replaced Smile

WorryWartOne · 09/07/2020 12:46

Feeling a bit put off by the obvious scripting and storyboarding of this show now (though will keep watching to the bitter end of course 😂). As if Debbie wants to stay, as if Jonathan was convinced by a limply worded argument from Jesse about ‘fighting to the end’ 🙄. It’s all just been orchestrated for maximum drama, which I’m not keen on.

If this had been the UK show, yeah everyone would’ve looked a bit ropier and had worse teeth and there would’ve been shots of rainy Wolverhampton not glorious Sydney Harbour 😆, but it would’ve been more authentic. I remember the MAFS UK show where that lovely policeman was stuck with that dreadful blonde woman who hated his dog and forced him to keep it penned in. If that had been the Oz show, there would’ve been loads of dramatic music over the top and edits of shocked faces, she would’ve agreed to stay to keep the drama going etc. That level of scripted shite is why I no longer watch TOWIE, MIC etc, so for me it’s a shame to see it here (this is the first series of MAFS Oz I’ve watched).

With that in mind, no surprises for me about who claimed to want to stay or leave, but I’m very glad Scarlett got out now as Michael is a real oddball, and malevolent with it. Also it was quite telling how Cheryl and Michael, who both rejected their partners, were then incensed when said rejectees had the temerity to start a flirtation. Clearly hurt pride for those two big heads! Don’t hold out much hope for Michelle and Jesse, and Vanessa seemed at the end of her rope with Blandrew too. I think Sharon will tire of Nick’s assertions that a great relationship involves him fucking up and her mummying him along. She seems great and deserves a grown up relationship.

Makeover week tonight... I’m guessing it’s a makeover for one 😂 thank god because Simon’s hair ‘style’ is bordering on ocular abuse. I really hope that it works out for the lovely Alene, she’s very patient with him and deserves a husband she can find physically attractive.

The return of Abandrew 😂 really pleased as he’s my favourite chap. Hope they don’t hook him up with Cheryl though, as then he’s gone from unlucky in love gentleman with heart of gold, to sleazy old hound in the blink of an eye.
