Anyone watching? The Sydney couple are never going to last. She’s so annoying, surely just on it to get on tv??

Have their ever been a couple from these shows that have stayed married?

@Honeyroar

I still don’t believe that story. He doesn’t come across as remotely aggressive, just a bit thick and unempathetic. He couldn’t argue with cheryl’s dad! And how “curious” that the experts have invited her dad back again for the next episode!

He doesn’t notice Anthony setting him up to look stupid half the timeZ

I also don’t see Abandrew as aggressive at all. I think he’s hugely insecure and has very low self-esteem, so when he’s embarrassed and hurt like he has been on the show, he gets bitter and lashes out. I know so many men like this (lucky me 😂).

I must say I’m fairly bored of watching him and Cheryl bicker and sulk though... I’d much rather see more of Alene and Simon, Sean and Susan and Vanessa and Andy. Their relationships are actually quite interesting and the dynamics in each are worth exploring. I don’t actually have much of an idea what Vanessa is like apart from fairly loud - is she empathetic? Witty? Gossipy? Is Simon affectionate with Alene outside the commitment ceremony, where he often has his arm around her? Do Susan and Sean actually have much in common or are they just blinded by their obvious sex-goggles 😂

I also find Nick and Shazza boring and have started to gently FF a few of their scenes. They have really dull and smug conversations about how happy they are and that’s basically it.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/07/2020 07:51

I also don’t see Abandrew as aggressive at all completely disagree, I think he’s more likely to physically snap than any of the others. He’s harbouring a lot of resentment from his past relationships, god help you if you don’t gush over his songs Confused

Eaumyword · 21/07/2020 08:19

I'm looking forward to tonight's episode - dying to see how Andrew's family and Cheryl's dad mix.
I really thought Andrew was the hard done by one until last night and he was completely awful.
I liked Sean and Simon looking all disapproving!
Cheryl is either completely deluded wanting to stay, or wants more air time.
It just seems ridiculous that if they don't fancy each other, they would stay - Michelle and Jesse and Andrew and Cheryl. I was convinced both couples would vote leave last night.
Couldn't believe Anthony calling Nadia frigid. He's another awful caveman Shock
Love this show!

Egghead68 · 21/07/2020 08:30

I think most of those saying they want to stay just want more airtime.

waterlego · 21/07/2020 08:43

Yes to people wanting airtime. Cheryl, Shazza, Nadia, Anthony and maybe some of the others all come across as people who want media ‘careers’. Influencers or whatever.

Honeyroar · 21/07/2020 09:16

I think you’re all buying into the programme too much. I don’t see any aggression at all. I see someone quite insecure and wet, who tries to big himself up by gossiping to the others behind Cheryl’s back. He couldn’t even stand up for her at that first dinner party, or even stand up on his own to the twins. He didn’t stand up to Cheryl’s dad, even after a lot of aggressive behaviour towards him, he scuttled off to get changed and came out with a few pathetic lines. He has moved out of the flat, said he was yes to leave. (He really should’ve gone) Nothing remotely aggressive. The tv show has really set him up to show himself as badly as possible. I wouldn’t be worried about my daughter or friend being with him (although I’d think they’d picked a pointless bloke!), whereas I would with Anthony, and I possibly would with Nick too. While I don’t like Abandrew and never understood why people on here were so into him, I equally don’t think he deserves the vitriol he’s getting (I’d say the same about Cheryl too. I don’t like her, she’s a tv hunter, but she doesn’t deserve the attacks)

Anthony is obsessed with Cheryl (and abandrew). It's so creepy.

He is so over invested in their relationship. Awful man.

Abandrew was a sexist prick on the boys night. Going on and on about preferring Lauren, and how shallow Cheryl is.

I would love the experts to show the females that footage.

bibliomania · 21/07/2020 09:24

Abandrew is certainly passive-aggressibe if nothing else. That bit when Cheryl was getting about being late to get to her dad's house (because he didn't come back when promised) and he wouldn't close the car for till she spoke to him nicely.

I'm watching with DD(12) and it's sparked some good conversations about what you should expect from a partner.

Tally23 · 21/07/2020 09:25

Episode 16...Sean and Simon are the decent men here. ‘Jonesy’ is disgusting. Anthony (bleugh!) fancies himself first and ‘Jonesy’ second! Not a big Cheryl fan but he’s so mean talking like that behind her back!

bibliomania · 21/07/2020 09:28

I think Anthony is obsessed with Andrew because he has strong views about what a man is entitled to from a woman, and here is a man he admires, who is not getting those things, twice in a row. And he'd feel so superior, if only Nadia would do her duty and put out. A massive sense of male entitlement.

Honeyroar · 21/07/2020 09:31

Ooh I had a horse called Tally!

I think Nick is pretty rank too. His opinion of women is pretty low. What with his strip club membership and his insinuated comments about Cheryl’s chest. It would’ve been interesting to see him with a less glam lady. I think he’d have been like stripper boy was with Scarlett.

I think this whole programme is a wonderful example to a young girl of what not to look for in a man!

bibliomania · 21/07/2020 09:35

Agreed, Honey, it doesn't have to be a documentary to be educational!

Alsohuman · 21/07/2020 10:15

I wonder if we think these men are particularly awful because they fit the stereotype of the macho Australian male. The ones that are coming out of it well are Sean, Simon and big Andrew, Jesse seems to go along with the rest for a quiet life. The rest - including the male “expert” are just awful. Horrible, chauvinist, entitled arseholes.

Honeyroar · 21/07/2020 10:40

Isn’t it funny though, we often (well a lot of us) go for the guys like that when we’re young and then finally work out that the blokes perceived as possibly boring are actually the good guys.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 21/07/2020 10:45

Yes to people wanting airtime. Cheryl, Shazza, Nadia, Anthony and maybe some of the others all come across as people who want media ‘careers’. Influencers or whatever.

And to this list I would add Abandrew, who is obviously hoping to be "discovered" as a singer/songwriter - which is why his crap songs are everywhere.

I see someone quite insecure and wet, who tries to big himself

This is what makes him dangerous. Inside he's a frightened bully who has huge doubts about himself - but he doesn't accept any responsibility for his own behaviour.

He's spiteful to people he perceives as weaker than him (Cheryl), fawning and frighted of those he perceives as stronger (Cheryl's bombastic, wealthy dad), and "matey" to people he wants to get onside/ impress.

There have been a couple of moments where there has been a flash of real rage flicker across his face, and I honestly think he would be very capable of beating a woman up and then telling her "If you hadn't done X this wouldn't have happened." I wouldn't want my DD anywhere either him of Spoonface Anthony - I think they are both dangerous men in their different ways. I doubt that Spoonface would raise a hand (though I may be wrong) but he would gradually and deliberately destroy a woman's soul.

thismeansnothing · 21/07/2020 10:58

Omg I have been sucked into this from day 1 and have only just seen this thread. And best of all, DH has totally been sucked in too. Although he won't admit it. I missed last night's episode cos I was in work so double catch up for us tonight.

But started reading this thread and it's so funny to see how nice alot of you thought Anthony was. Lol I've not been keen since the first group dinner where he spoke as if this was some kind of competition to be won. 😳

Totally how I read these two men. Anthony wouldn’t raise a hand, he’s far more underhand than that.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 21/07/2020 11:06

It is the same at Chez Schadenfreude . . . Grin

bibliomania · 21/07/2020 11:22

You're on for a treat when you catch up, this means nothing!

Alsohuman · 21/07/2020 11:23

And here. It’s really amusing me after all the mocking me for watching previous US and UK series.

BlueTongueSkink · 21/07/2020 11:33

Us too! @thismeansnothing @SchadenfreudePersonified @Alsohuman DH always says "I suppose you want to watch MAFS now...." but he has watched every episode with me!

Agree, Simon and Sean are good guys.

riotlady · 21/07/2020 11:35

Simon has gotten so much more attractive to me over the course of the show, think it’s half because of the haircut and half seeing him be such a good guy.

I wonder if Nadia comes from a home where she witnessed an abusive relationship, or has been in one before. The way she’s slid into smoothing things along with Anthony, giggling when he says something awful, it strikes me that she sees that sort of behaviour from a man as normal.

Alsohuman · 21/07/2020 11:38

I don’t think Nadia thinks it’s normal at all. The look on her face when he said “She’s mine” said it all. I think she might be a bit frightened of him and is sticking it out to keep the peace and for the money. I bet she’s counting the days until it’s over.

thismeansnothing · 21/07/2020 12:00

Eeeeek I can't wait. I work night.and DH txt me to say he'd watched it couldn't help himself but had a google.on the contestants and told me what happened to everyone....thank God he was bullshitting 🤣 I've told him watch it without me and there'll be no ' happy wife happy life'. (Most annoying overused phrase ever.

Also re Anthony. He seems to think 'oh If I just say sorry that makes my actions ok'. NO. Your just saying sorry and not really understanding why. It's just a kneejerk response to your twattish behaviour. Just don't be a dick and then you don't need to apologise. But that's far to simple.

Got to say. So far I'm liking Simon and alene. And I did like Susan and horsey Pete (the names gone) but in an earlier episode I googled where they were from and they couldn't be further away from each other. That was Doomed before they even started.
