Too many bloody posts on the other one, I cant post!!!

OP posts:
Lorayn · 26/09/2007 12:06

I was just reading this women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/families/article2490452.ece
I love the fact that cv is fine with dummies, as , get this "Sometimes a baby needs more than a cuddle to soothe it"
LOL

OP posts:
rosierooster · 26/09/2007 12:15

This is exactly what channel 4 new would happen when they chose CV as a mentor and this is exactly what they wanted a great outcry and loads of interest in their show.
Not sure about the ethics of the experiment and can't understand why anyone would want to bring a baby into the word and treat them like this. I will be very suprised if the parents don't brealk before the baby does and CV is rightfully told to piss off!

kiskidee · 26/09/2007 12:48

I have stopped watching C4 because of this show.

I will let them know that.

mumclaire · 26/09/2007 12:54

Well I spent most of last nights spisode yelling at the tv : what? What? WHAT???
I thought cv was a shocking bully and too blinkered. I always suspicious of 'experts' who don't have babies of their own - how can she possibly understand the emotions that a new mother is experiencing? Plus it really worried me that this method seems to have been based on rearing cows??? I think it is very irresponsible of the programme not to include info about 'official' gov't advice - think huggies and advertisers missed a trick there!!!
I thought the other two were fine but was concerned that the 'Spock' one was anti-breastfeeding in public. Also not against attachment parenting at all but again the foundations of the method seemed at a bit strange - of course amazonian kids were less stressed with modern life - they don't live in Britain in 2007!!!
Will prepare to rant again next week cos yes i will watch it - just to get indignant and self righteous!!

Lorayn · 26/09/2007 12:55

Really kiskidee??
I want to see to the end of the programme, I am desperately hoping the parents will tell CV to GTFO and that the babies she looks after don't sleep through the night, just so parents that are likely to take advice from it won't be tempted to follow her.

OP posts:
clareverity · 26/09/2007 12:56

Look a baby is perfectly happy outside, it won't die and baby doesn't need cuddling if is swaddled properly!

kiskidee · 26/09/2007 12:57

i am only watching that show to continue to complain about it.

Lorayn · 26/09/2007 12:57

LOL.
Mia wasnt swaddled, she was put feet to foot in her cot with a blanket over her, you could see it when she was crying.

OP posts:
kiskidee · 26/09/2007 12:58

i want to swaddle claire verity and stick her o/s my front door for 3 hrs tonight.

the only thing between me and Denmark is the North Sea.

clareverity · 26/09/2007 13:00

You might not like routine but some mums thrive on it!

Beenleigh · 26/09/2007 13:02

Aitch, have you seen them all? What happens? Does she get the boot by anyone?

Lorayn · 26/09/2007 13:03

I'd prefer to co-sleep and give my baby a nipple to go back to sleep than be up every night at 3am personally.

i wonder if the continuum concept woman will get to the bit where playing with axes is not discouraged? oh and the whole 'don't look at the children' crazyiness.

can i watch the prog online? i'm in singapore

kiskidee · 26/09/2007 13:09

and some babies 'failure to thrive' on 'routines' like the ones advocated by the followers of Truby King.

Infant sleep, physiological and psychological research in the last 40 yrs have debunked the majority of the standard Truby King advice.

Claire Verity is dangerous to babies.

kiskidee · 26/09/2007 13:12

as far as playing with axes, i remember playing with machetes when i was at least 5. all of us kids did it. no one raised an eyebrow. i grew up in the tropics. we also climbed coconut trees and husked cocoanuts to get at the nut.

it wasn't until my older brother was about 14 did i see a proper machete wound on any of us.

beanstalk · 26/09/2007 13:20

Am I the only one who thinks that using newborns in a social experiment is morally and ethically disgusting? Why is everyone even watching it? I am ashamed I watched it, but I will not be complaining or watching any more. I won't be adding more publicity to the programme, CH4 have only made it because us mugs will watch!! Boycott the rest of the series I say.

MadamePlatypus · 26/09/2007 13:22

I think the Guardian TV reviewer has it about right:

"But there is one fundamental problem: no one uses the manuals in question any more. It's a bit like switching on Top Gear to find Clarkson and the boys doing a head-to-head between a Morris Minor, an Austin Maxi and a Ford Capri. I guess they wanted to do some of the more recent ones, but the living gods didn't want to play. They're a tricky - and litigious - lot, I've heard."

MadamePlatypus · 26/09/2007 13:28

kiskidee, sorry to go a bit off topic, but I have this image of you (slightly ethnic look, slightly French Lieutenant's Woman, long hair), standing at the window of a lovely white cottage on the east cost with a baby wrapped in a cosy shawl saying "no CV, I won't do it!!!!". I think I am also seeing an Aga in there somewhere too.

claireverity · 26/09/2007 13:28

Well, whoever took my name forgot to spell it correctly!

I am so glad a lot of you watched the programme, and I sincerely hope I have converted you into the sort of parents I want to see.

My client list includes rock stars and royalty, and you can see for yourself how healthily and happily these children grow up!

A day old baby is only trying to manipulate you into attending to it....do you want to be ruled by a 7 pound bundle of selfishness??

Remember - cuddling is for wimps. Real Mothers Do it At Arms Length.

(disclaimer: this post did not come from the Real Claire Verity - just in case anyone gets the lawyers involved)

MegaLegs · 26/09/2007 13:31

How long is the series? I am really hoping that this first episode was to get max publicity and that over the next few weeks we will see CV's methods totally fail, the parents she is guruing (made up word?) all turn on her and kick her out on her arse!!

Lorayn · 26/09/2007 13:33

My DD was 5lb 1.5oz, I waited til she hit 7lb to start holding her at arms length, whereas DS was 8lb 7.5 so I took used to sit out in the garden to get him used to the cold.
