New dram series starts tonight on bbc 1

With only hours left to deliver a draft of a book to her publishers , writer Arabella is tempted into a night out with a friend ........

the series is set in London and centers around the story of a young woman who must rebuild her life after her drink is spiked with a date rape drug

*However. With four episodes left I'm determined that she and Biagio will work things out. He really can't be accused of abandoning her to the night - she got herself there without his assistance. Let's hope there's an unassailable reason for what he did
*
Hmm he blamed her for being raped, refused to speak to her since then and was clearly terrified when she turned up with no warning, I really think he just "not that into her".

Just cos he looked after her when she was wasted and wasn't disgusted by periods doesn't make him her soulmate.

I don't think this is a show with a romantic ending. Bella has unravelled and I think she will need to find a way back to happiness by herself.

Starshollowwannabe · 02/07/2020 06:55

I think she dies in the sea and the rest of the 4 episodes are the unraveling of the supporting characters

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 02/07/2020 07:02

Mmm ... I don't know about 'romance' as such, just some evolution, some character development in the person she adores. Maybe as a residue of youthful traumas, maybe an instinctive reaction to fiction - but I feel more invested in Biagio now they've reached this peak of miscommunication. Step by step they've stumbled to this impossible point - and in the real world, yes, that would be the end. I can't help feeling fiction can offer more than that, one way or another. And it's been so carefully written - all his unprompted actions were lovely (absent the actual drug dealing) - it's his reactions that have been wrong. The victim blaming, the self protection, etc - they could bear deconstruction.

famous - I've found Emma finally discovering farming (!) unexpectedly gripping this week.

I'm loving this thread!

Can someone please explain the hatred for Kwames ONS?

newlabelwriter · 02/07/2020 08:35

I definitely don't think she dies as this from BBC looks like her emerging from the sea or at least very wet in the clothes she went in wearing. Not sure how she would have survived that though.

Also in that interview posted further down she says that Arabella fonds out about Terry and that hasn't happened yet, at this point she doesn't know Terry told Simon oh just leave her.

FTMF30 · 02/07/2020 09:26

@Thisismynamechange1 I think it's just Perdita who hates Kwame's date (wishes her dead). I think the rest if us just think she's a twat.

🤣🤣🤣

I just thinks she's a twat too!

BringMeTea · 02/07/2020 09:41

Very interesting show. Michaela is a talent. Yeah, not wishing death on the young woman either.

NewNewt · 02/07/2020 10:06

I am finding here dialogue more and more Shakespearian - it really is an incredible show.

Lottapianos · 02/07/2020 10:46

'Just cos he looked after her when she was wasted and wasn't disgusted by periods doesn't make him her soulmate.'

Well said! I dont get the Biagio love at all

megletthesecond · 02/07/2020 11:36

yy, it's quite a low bar when a victim blaming drug dealer is considered a catch. He deserves to be nothing more than a holiday fling. .

Ulysses · 02/07/2020 12:17

I think I'm going to watch the first episode again! At the start she's leaving Italy so is it her 2nd trip there after the one where she meet's with Terry or had she been there all that time? She doesn't seem to have that invested him in given that she quite happily had sex with Zain (although that turned out poorly).

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 02/07/2020 12:43

H all, late to the thread and also obsessed with this show (alternating this with House of Cards which I'm also into. Not much cheery viewing in the LangShip household these days).

I think the housemate is a red herring, when Bella arrived home after The Night Of he seemed to have been home all night. I think locking himself away in his room during Terry's party was just him respecting that he wasn't invited. I'm very aware it's been cleverly written to make me think that.

I'm not sure Simon or his cousin weren't more involved in the rape.

I'm really worried about Bella's state of mind though.

When is the next episode?

Allywill · 02/07/2020 13:17

not sure about the comments about theo. at the very least she was used, gaslighted and manipulated by her mum - that makes her at least a victim of domestic abuse in my book.
also have an issue with the school incident. it appeared to suggest that a photo of them having sex put paid to her accusation that she was forced into it. Although we know in fact he didn’t force her at knife point i think to suggest a photo could prove consent is very problematic.

Just to clarify, I mean Kwames date is a twat - not Perdita!

FTMF30 · 02/07/2020 15:31

I've been watching on iPlayer and new episodes come on Monday and Tuesday. I'm actually not sure if it's on TV.

FabulouslyGlamourousFerret · 02/07/2020 15:33

I'm watching the first episode again! I'm obsessed 🤣

FabulouslyGlamourousFerret · 02/07/2020 15:41

I've just realised that Simon and his girlfriend were meeting 'Alisa' the woman with the shaved head ... for a threesome!

Shedtheload · 02/07/2020 17:34

Slightly scared at Perdita hoping that Bella ends up with Biagio. The dude blamed her for getting raped, locked her out of his house in a foreign country and opened the door carrying a gun. Oh and sells drugs etc etc. What a catch. Amazing how willingness to have sex with a woman on her period can turn a guy into a saint who can do no wrong.

The one night stand seems a dick but to wish a horrible death on her is nasty and misogynistic, especially as she is mild compared to some true wankers in this show.

FTMF30 · 02/07/2020 18:03

Yes she does seem to have been a victim of domestic abuse but nothing else. She set up a group for sexual abuse victims claiming she had gone through the same thing several times. From what I've seen so far, this doesn't seem to be true, so it's very deceitful and manipulative.

But she is a product of the environment she grew up in and is recreating lies her mother once told.

With the sex at school situation, I thought that strange too. Unless the video proved she didn't have blood on her legs at the time ?🤷‍♀️

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 02/07/2020 18:04

I said I hoped Bella and Biagio could work things out, deconstruct his behaviour (as well as hers) and arrive at some form of understanding.

I hadn't realised that if I expressed an opinion on one fictional character I would then be obliged to detail my feelings towards all the other fictional characters ...

We haven't met (even if we've seen) Bella's rapist; Theo was a school pupil when she set out to ruin someone's life; Kwame's attacker was violent and stupid. But no, what Nilufer said was not 'mild'. You don't have to agree with me - but that is my opinion on this fictional character.

CherryValanc · 02/07/2020 18:31

But what not-mild comment did she said that deserves a horrific death?

CherryValanc · 02/07/2020 18:35

Also can I ask, what's the difference between pointing a gun at someone telling them to leave and holding it (with the business end facing someone) while telling them to leave?

Think this was distinguished as different upthread.
Could come in handy one day to know the difference Grin.
