New dram series starts tonight on bbc 1

With only hours left to deliver a draft of a book to her publishers , writer Arabella is tempted into a night out with a friend ........

the series is set in London and centers around the story of a young woman who must rebuild her life after her drink is spiked with a date rape drug

Have skipped the Ep 8 posts (will go back tomorrow).

But, ageingdisgracefully - did you mean the whole series or just the latest two episodes. And, if the former, might we collectively help with attempts at clarification?

I recently praised something on the radio for its tone, rhythm, pace, and detail. This has all of that, plus the most incredible, 21st century Shakespearian dialogue - something I'd long ago forgotten to hope for on TV.

megletthesecond · 30/06/2020 09:29

I'm showing my age and lack of cultural knowledge here. But it almost has a Twin Peaks thing about it. Especially the layering of many stories and flashbacks.

Lottapianos · 30/06/2020 09:50

'I was like "TAKE THE PIZZA!

Me too! 😂 the poor girl must have been STARVING

I never understood the Biagio love on here. I always thought he seemed like a right wrong'un and no good for her. And SPOILER...........................................................to throw her out in the middle of the night, penniless, after what shes recently been through was seriously vile. I was virtually yelling at the screen begging her not to go to Italy but then again, we have all done utterly daft things out of desperation in our youth

Kwame - oh lord. Enough with the dating apps

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 30/06/2020 10:39

I reckon Biagio has something else going on. He says he could never hate her, he wants to hear her read her writing, but he was clearly a bit freaked out by her just turning up out of the blue and letting herself into his house, and she is on the edge.
He has a gun in his apartment, I reckon he is in deep shit and needed her out so she didn't get involved. I think he was looking to the door. And he needed to be an absolute bastard to her to make it a clean break.

"perdita* I'm having trouble seeing quite how marvellous it is..but I'm watching it nonetheless . I'm going to plod on to the end.

It's reminding me a bit of Fleabag. I disliked that as well but remained fascinated by it.

Please educate meGrin

famousforwrongreason · 30/06/2020 13:02

@PerditaProvokesEnmity what was the radio show you praised? I'm always looking for cool stuff to listen to in bed

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 30/06/2020 13:36

Oh dear, it was the opposite of cool! It was The Pargetter Triptych - which will only make sense if you're an Archers fan. (Actually - it might just have been a podcast. And I've only heard one so there must be more.) Imagine a monologue with the flavour of Cabin Pressure.

FTMF30 · 30/06/2020 14:09

I am going to be so gutted when this ends.

The interaction with Kwame's date was very interesting and how it all played out - the victim becoming the perpetrator in some sense.

Ellabella222 · 30/06/2020 14:44

Poor Kwame. He just needs someone to love him.

I am still suspicious of Bella’s flatmate.

NewNewt · 30/06/2020 16:07

Me too!

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 30/06/2020 18:20

spoiler

yes, why was the flat mate in his bed wearing headphones?
why didnt he join in the party.
he is in the shadows isnt he

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 30/06/2020 18:25

Kwame is so cute looking

Ulysses · 30/06/2020 18:28

He's a bit like Chekov's gun the flatmate isn't he? I

Bit spoilerly,

but if you look at the accompanying photo for episode 8 Biagio is on the beach with Arabella, so how does that fit into things? Are you thinking of Catastrophe @Steala. That was a such a perfectly awful ending to the show. Still with 4 episodes to go here I think Arabella is having a more cleansing of the soul moment.

So, Theo is coming across as nefarious and possibly vengeful. Terry and Simon - what was going on there? I might have missed it but it seemed to be left deliberately vague what Terry was meaning.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 30/06/2020 18:40

Simon apparently took Terri's advice, from what I could understand, to leave Arabella,
so that's confusing.
but Terri is obviously trying to make up for it

FTMF30 · 30/06/2020 18:45

StarSpoilerStar

@Ulysses Do you mean what was the point of the Terry/Simon situation? If so, it turned out that Terry is partly to blame for Bella's rape. Simon had called Terry telling her that Bella was out of it when they'd gone out that time and Terry's response was to leave Bella as "that's what she always does". It also relates to her underlying anger at Bella for being so out of it when they were in Italy together that time that she hadn't noticed Terry had left the club alone. And now Terry is seemingly over compensating for her guilt.

Ulysses · 30/06/2020 19:04

Ah okay thanks. I'm planning on watching the episodes again. There's so many layers aren't there.

ageingdisgracefully · 30/06/2020 19:25

So that's it ? More confused than ever. Confused

CheshireChav · 30/06/2020 20:10

There's more episodes - another 4 I think 😉

muckandnettles · 30/06/2020 21:39

It chills me every time Bella and Terri say 'your birth is my birth, your death is my death...' It started as such a schoolgirl bff sort of thing to say but now the stakes are getting higher it really strikes me as a bit scary.

Steala · 30/06/2020 22:47

@Ulysses , yes, Catastrophe. I couldn't bear another series to end that way!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 30/06/2020 23:37

Didn’t like Biagio from the first episode, he seemed very disinterested in her. And a hypocrite.

famousforwrongreason · 30/06/2020 23:56

@PerditaProvokesEnmity, I'm an archers superfan! Thank you! Just what I need, I've missed the ambridge folk HUGELY.

famousforwrongreason · 01/07/2020 00:01

Spoiler
Kwane's date was fucking horrible. I can't say too much as it could be outing but I know somebody who has a very specific 'black guy' penchant. It's never sat well with me, especially now this person is completely reinventing themselves during the black lives matter movement. Got a slight touch of the Rachel dolezals about it. Sorry, tangent.

end of spoiler

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 01/07/2020 05:52

famousforwrongreason are you on the Archers thread? (Sorry, you might be and I haven't remembered your name.)
