Hope I haven’t jumped the gun, but the old thread was getting quite full.

I’ve just been browsing the
www.bigcommunitysew.co.uk/
and trying to work out what sewing machines they were using at home. I always do that when a magazine has a feature about one if the contestants. Blush
I think Therese has the same Juki machine as I have and she’s also got the mini quilter too. Lucky lass.

Also, do you think that maybe either Therese or that slightly annoying bloke Peter might have won this year as they also have Juliet, the winner from the last series in this group?

Matt and Peter often confuse me too.

SoupDragon · 23/05/2020 12:22

Yes, only Matt and Peter confuse me - and less so now as I've got used to them, which is a relief!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/05/2020 12:26

Peter is the most flamboyant of the three isn't he?

SoupDragon · 23/05/2020 12:35

Yes, he is. Matt has one of those big holes in his ear but seems basically sensible.

LadyEloise · 23/05/2020 12:49

Matt and Peter confused me too.
It's obviously the beards.Smile

HotCrossBungle · 23/05/2020 14:00

Yes re Esme's dress newmodelarmy, I'm guessing she made it? Can anyone suggest a pattern?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/05/2020 14:08

It was the colour too. She rocked it totally.

Perhaps one of the challenges would be to make an outfit/garment for one of the presenters?

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 23/05/2020 17:36

I found Fiona and Ali a bit hard to tell apart as well.

There's nothing in the rules about using the same fabric as someone else. I'm sure it has happened before - I vaguely remember a pattern challenge with (possibly) wiggle dresses where that happened. I could see being made to use identical fabric and trim making a good challenge, actually. It would be much more obvious who was the best at working with a pattern.

JasperRising · 24/05/2020 16:55

Which of the 3 men makes drag outfits?

SoupDragon · 24/05/2020 17:07

Matt, the one with a big hole in his ear. (I'm sure there's a proper name for it!)

JasperRising · 24/05/2020 19:07

Thanks @SoupDragon. From next week they may be down to few enough people that I can remember.

It's interesting that the contestants now seem to be distinctive for their personalities and style not seeing techniques. So it's 'punk lady', '1940s' etc whereas in previous years I remember noticing sewers as 'the lady who didn't use patterns' or 'the one who weighted patterns rather than pinning them' and so on.

AravisTarkheena · 24/05/2020 19:51

I remember the lady who didn’t use Patterns and I always felt she should get extra credit. However, they all weigh their patterns now so that would be no good as a distinguishing feature. I have been admiring the wrist worn pin cushions of Therese and Nicole though.

AravisTarkheena · 24/05/2020 19:54

Do you remember- guy who made his own fabrics? He didn’t last that long but no one could doubt his innovation.

JasperRising · 24/05/2020 20:08

I do remember the guy who made fabrics. Was that last year?

I had forgotten that in the made to measure those who use no pattern or who heavily adapt/combine patterns don't get credit for that over those who follow a pattern exactly. If guess they want to focus on sewing skills rather than pattern drafting.

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/05/2020 20:56

Was it Ben who made the fabrics?

TreeTopTim · 25/05/2020 08:09

@AravisTarkheena me too. Loving the wrist pin cushions. I don't sew but I really really want one to wear.

Halsall · 25/05/2020 10:35

I use a wrist pincushion and they're incredibly useful. Easy to make your own, too.

@HotCrossBungle - this looks similar to Esme's dress but I'm sure I've seen one of the indie pattern companies that does one too. I'll have a further search!

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 25/05/2020 15:41

Fabric printing man was either last series or the series before. He made some mushroom-printed fabric which was nice, but the dress (I think) he made it into was awful and he was sent home.

SoupDragon · 25/05/2020 17:38

Did he have fried eggs on his t shirt on one occasion...? 🤔

SoupDragon · 25/05/2020 17:40

It was Ben and he did have fried eggs 😂😂

Thanks halsal

Astrabees · 27/05/2020 11:25

Did anyone notice the lovely red suede heeled brogues Clare was wearing last week? I have fund some very similar at Mod shoes but I think hers had a block heel.

Binglebong · 27/05/2020 11:29

Patrick Grant is on This Morning NOW. although he is wearing a bright orange top and looks like he's escaped from an america prison. Hmm

Halsall · 27/05/2020 11:36

I like those, Astra! I linked to another pair slightly similar to Clare's upthread 👆

Roussette · 27/05/2020 12:01

I thought Patrick still looked great! And what a gentleman he is.
