Gogglebox - how come they can visit family/friends?!

Random thought, just sat watching last nights gogglebox - how come they’re still allowed to visit each other’s houses (those who don’t live together on the show) yet everyone is supposed to be in lockdown and not mixing outside their own household?? Confused

Mary and Giles seem to dislike one another. I think they have been trying a bit harder of late to try not to let it show quite as much. As for Mary bursting into tears, all she does, imo, is a little sniffle. She used to do it about Brexit, every so often too. Giles says 'steady on Nutty' and that's it. It's over.

Neither Stephen nor his husband have particularly well cut hair, another reason I think I would avoid their salon, apart from the sneers and general nasty comments about clients, especially from Stephen.

I think Mary & Giles do seem very balanced and seem like they get on well together.

Stephen has become a very unpleasant man over the last few years. With he was with Chris he was slightly comically camp bitchy, which then began to become nasty. When he was joined by his mum the facade seemed to come down and he began to show just how unkind he can really is, and boys he is full-on vile.

Peter and Sophie give me the creeps, especially Pete.

I also don't understand what's going on with the Siddiquis. They aren't unintelligent guys, so why do they think it's okay to be visiting one another? Basasit mentioned that if Umar came too close to him then they'd have to isolate together and he'd have to move in, it's odd that Ch4 are happy to portray this.

I have an image in my head of Jenny and Lee pushing their caravans together, back-to-back, so that Lee can climb between the two through the windows - effectively making one bigger caravan, and meaning that Lee didn't have to go outsie when he goes between the two!

Maybe the non social distancing of Sidduquis is for filming purposes like on Thus Morning. Holly and Philip are still in studio but apart. Must be same rules for Gogglebox if necessary?

I thought of the two caravans moving closer together as well. Or putting up an awning to join them so they are effectively the same household. Love Jenny and Lee and love that they are together through this.

It's a static caravan - not really the type you can move.

Isn't it just Jenny that has a caravan?

Glad it's not just me that winces at the Malones shoes hovering over their cakes every week.

I did wonder whether the Siddiquis sofa is bigger than it looks and they are actually more than 2m apart.

Yes, the caravan is Jenny's. I agree about the cakes, I think it's the dog that eats them though Grin.

Jenny and Lee make me feel uncomfortable, Lee is always laughing or making fun of Jenny. I find their relationship odd. Feel sorry for Jenny.
The Malone family too, don't like watching them, how the son always looks at the dad to see what his expression is and then copies it , or sees if the dad is sneering at the mum and then does it too. The quieter son , that's not on as much, comes across as much nicer kinder, more like the mum. Her opinion is always laughed at. Don't like to watch them at all. It makes me sad really.

In an episode the other week Jenny said she’d moved into Lee’s caravan. She was joking that she’d got a stash of food in her bag in her bedroom.

And the Sidiqquis might be 2m apart but that’s still against the rules. I can’t go see family and sit the other side of the room from them?

@svenwhen I think Julie plays on that though. It’s like she wants to portray herself as the ditsy mum at times.

Ellie and Izzy are the worst for ‘social distancing’ IMO.

You are allowed to travel to work if you can't work from home, so those who don't live together are allowed to come to work together.
It's a job being on TV, they get paid.

Can't believe how much hate the Malones are getting. I think they are a close and loving family and they've brought both boys up well. They seem like kind and caring lads. Definitely think the dads just a typical northern dad and isn't cold and patronising towards his wife although he takes the piss out of her but then so does she given half the chance. Think people are making a judgement based on his looks more than anything.

Lee on the other hand is completely disrespectful to Jenny I'm really starting to cringe when they come on. Wish she would give him as good as she got, she comes across as a bit of a victim. Find Stephen quite funny but went off him when I found out how he treated his ex who got booted off the show. Pete and 'little sister Sophie' are king and queen of one liners and are really funny but I agree that there's something off about him. Some of the bridging scenes from the show with general interaction between the 2 where he doesn't come across well, shows him being a right dick to her.

My favourites:
Peter and Sophie are fab - very quick witted and great banter between them.
Jenny and Lee - come across as long time friends who always laugh at each other in a friendly, sarcastic way.

I love the malones! They were in a children's hospital programme many years ago when one of their boys had either a tumour or an injury to their head, and was very very ill. He had to have brain surgery. He then had to have a lot of rehabilitation as he had brain damage. Mum and dad were very very close.

Sad to hear about June (Leon and June) passing away last week. Such a lovely lady.

I noticed in the first episode during lockdown izzie was with her boyfriend but now Ellie is back? Which I thought was a bit odd as they are not sat 2m apart!

Love the brother and sister, so funny!

Love the siddiquies and lee and Jenny too!

WTF are C4 doing stopping Gogglebox now? Tonight’s show is just a compilation. It provides such a snapshot of UK society at this time and there’s real, biting commentary (and all the trivial stuff too) The cameras were obviously all set up for Lockdown, it’s not as if a new programme was scheduled to start as they’re playing reruns. Real wasted opportunity by C4 especially when it’s advertising revenue has virtually disappeared in the past weeks. Was looking forward to their decimation of Dominic Cummings’ sob story.
